this is Sunday afternoon entertainment at the Nurburgring - you can pay to drive around the track (no insurance!) or park at the circuit and watch this stuff going on. I really must go and watch again some time
loooooooooooool very good job guy very good video hehe the corner is fast and the old cars cant steer very fast from left to right (this was the problem ) :)
This is taken from a film called Spiel Mir Das Lied Von 'Ring. It is about 30mins long and was not shot all in one day. The cameraman went to the 'ring most weekends to film, it must have been quite expensive in those days before video. There are one or two scenes in the full film that are quite frightening, particularly when it looks like there are kids in the cars.
Hahah! Had my moment of truth there too! Not a spin, but the corner took way further out than I thought it would, nearly ended on the barriers (looks a bit different now than 30rys ago).
Anyone else notice a theme emerging of combinations of air-cooled rear-mounted engines and swing-axle rear suspension? Mind you, it's not just the Krauts, there are quite a few other rear-engined cars here...
imagine that guy form 1:52 in a pub with his friends telling them his track day "i've lost control of my car in a corner and started to spin wildly out of.......my car"
@heniadir Of course I can, I realised the title referred to the corner only after posting the comment. I am not an erudite racing enthusiast (which I think you assumed I was), neither am I fluent in German. I actually thought Adenauer Forst is or was a person (perhaps this is also correct).
@trucker11686 possibly the sequences involving injuries or fatalities weren't included for reasons of taste. The people in the soft-top Beetle were very, very lucky.
Great footage! See how dangerous some French cars where back then (is it a R8 that crashes so dangerously @ 2.38?) , now they score 5*. Hard to believe no one was injured...
Its a slow corner that comes after a long very fast section. You have come downhill, through a left at the bottom and then chargin uphill through a right kink. Next thing you know, at the crest of the hill, the trees are telling you the road will go straight and the road has suddenly gone left. Even today it is one of THE classic places for good photos and video. about 1 in 20 cars gets it wrong and about 1 in 50 gets it VERY wrong
lol great video. Silly VWs, Beetles arent for racing! The guy falling out of the Beetle was the best. Funny though, how with all the rollover clips in this video and lack of safety standards back then, how all the drivers managed to walk away.
Gotta love those NSU's. Rear engined and quite a bit of a handful in inexperienced hands. This video also proves that a lot of drivers tend to overrate their own driving ability and the ability of their cars too, is nothing new. In 1968 or 1969 twice as many Americans died in traffic than their soldiers in Vietnam.
the roof barely even caved in on the bugs sturdy lil cars trust me thnx to whoever uploaded this
Wahnsinn diese alten Aufnahmen zu sehen!
So many NSU - Prinz ! I want it back again.
It's good to see this.
Thank you
it's amazing to see how easily these old cars roll!
my first car was a 69' beetle, and now a 71' BMW it's amazing car, it's alive !
GREAT vid! Thanks!
That is the coolest thing i have ever seen.
GREAT VIDEO!!!
I love 70's cars! :D
Very good video thanx for sharing!5 stars!!
I thought the guy on the bike at 0:58 was funny, but the beetle chucking the driver out is just hilarious.
Great film!!!!
Thank you for this Historic Material !!!!
and to @synetearis : in this Cars it was often better to fall out of it before the final impact.
Love the guy who manages to open his door and fall out mid-crash.
very good video!!good times!nice
the boy at 1.57 in the beetle is pure quality man
great historical video *5*
What a nice classic video! I really like the one at 1:50, insane wipeout and return. LOL!
I'm so glad none of the 2002s crashed, that would have been painful to watch.
9/10
Yaketysax for background music and with a bit faster videoplay would have made this a perfect 10!
1:03 "grasscut"!! LOL great video at Newbie's Corner :)
very nice video
some classic footage

It makes you realise how good cars are now.
nice a Mercedes /8 at 3:25 glad to see one of them on the ring!
what a corner and a real class video lmao
Great Vid! Like it where the Beetle throws out the driver! lol
Wow! Cars those days where really quiet!

@Synetearis Good for you.
you really need some benny hill music playing in the back ground lol awesome vid

unbelievable.
textbook example of the handling limitations of the VW swing axle suspension
1.50 the best one......so crazy.
I never thought I'd ever laugh seeing a car crash ejection... I must've forgot about the 70's!
HAHAHAHAHA!!! That bike at 00:56, tickled me that did!!! Cracking
imagine that guy form 1:52 in a pub with his friends telling them his track day
"i've lost control of my car in a corner and started to spin wildly out of.......my car"
Coole Aufnahme
amazing how easily cars flipped back in the days
lets take the family for a nice sunday drive!
nice
The Helmetless Darwin Crew in the White cabrio that almost rolled over takes the cake.
change the video so after the last car lands on it side the videp fades out before they push him back over.
Hahahahaha.. the guy falling out of the VW bug.. hilarious.
3:22 a convertable bettle.... darwin award in the making.
I sometimes mess up on that corner in gran turismo 5 lol
@heniadir I find it funny, he just gets back up after the crash and is like 'ok, what do I do now' :)
Damn swing axles...
It's a blind corner and people don't expect the quick succession of corners until it's too late. I wonder where he found the video?
They really knew how to enjoy themselfs those days!
Nasty corner. Funny watching cars just fall over so easily. Not surprised to see so many VW's.
@heniadir Of course I can, I realised the title referred to the corner only after posting the comment. I am not an erudite racing enthusiast (which I think you assumed I was), neither am I fluent in German. I actually thought Adenauer Forst is or was a person (perhaps this is also correct).
LMAO the guy doesnt jump, he actually falls out...is crazy lol
@trucker11686 possibly the sequences involving injuries or fatalities weren't included for reasons of taste. The people in the soft-top Beetle were very, very lucky.
love the guy who gets thrown out n gets straight back in lmfao :D
Which corner is this?
@heniadir I have seatbelts in my 70's crapper :) No option came stock :)
hahaa! that guy at 3:41, you can just tell he was swearing his mouth off after that roll :)
@lethalsub It's just before the 5th km, I think it's the 8th corner.
d'accord! :))
@elettrolanzo they just didn't have seatbelts in that car at that time... i also drive a fiat 500 '69... i dont have any seatbelts :P
Great footage!
See how dangerous some French cars where back then (is it a R8 that crashes so dangerously @ 2.38?) , now they score 5*. Hard to believe no one was injured...
Introducing the powerful agile ring-beetle! :LOL. Poor targa...
@Synetearis '70 and seatbelt ROTFL...
lol at 1:06
"wait.. that was a corner back there?"
1:50 glad to see that he wasnt seriously hurt.

People magically appear around your car when you crash at Nurburgring!!
Wow, Really? That would be fun to go around in (assuming one doesn't press so hard on corners like those).
lol that part at 57 im still laughing ahah
DaMMM CLASSIC
@krayzeejojo Coilovers? These are standard road cars, and it's the year 1970!
Wow, was this all in a day? Wouldn't get away with it now days. You should put that one with the man falling out the beetle on its own, what a pratt.
which one was niki lauda?
it is, ive been laughing so hard just imagining thee situation LMAO
lol great video. Silly VWs, Beetles arent for racing! The guy falling out of the Beetle was the best. Funny though, how with all the rollover clips in this video and lack of safety standards back then, how all the drivers managed to walk away.
@waveman1500: The "lol" in my post indicated it was a joke. I already knew coilovers didn't exist back then.
WTF?! Safety has come a long way!
Gotta love those NSU's. Rear engined and quite a bit of a handful in inexperienced hands.

oh i laughed my ass off when i saw that dude tumbling out of his car! :D
Mad ... was this all on the same day?
I wouldn't have liked to have been in that open-top beetle if it had flipped.
Check out the dude in the Bug ragtop with 2 chicks in the back at 3:20. LOL
the music!?!?!?!? =)
these people are the originators, not amateurs. Someone had to figure it out for the rest of us.
Reckless driving with 70´s cars.. luckily no-one got killed, cars were like paper on those days.
I love this fucking video. 1:50 is pretty wild. I didn't know a bug could do that!
1:53 is the best one lol ;-)
nurbugring it's very difficult track
LOL at 1:50 the bug just spat him out :D
