A wonderfully done video. My father's mother was a Robertson and the Crumpton's married many Robertson's, Reid's, Duncan's, and others in Atholl. I'm proud to be a Robertson, and a member of the society.

My great-grandmother was a Robertson from the part of the family that came to Nova Scotia in 1750’s. She moved to Washington State to teach in the 1880’s.

The clan way of life had been dying for many years, or hundreds of years before this. The battle of Culloden was just the final blow. The clan chiefs were sometimes/often just as corrupt as the English. People were getting tired of it, and many decided they would leave as soon as they could. Some fled to NZ, Aus, S. America, N. America and similar places. The programme outlander is a much more real depiction of highland life, not perfect, but much better than some other movies.
I like to say think of it today like a militia rising to take over a country where you live, and throwing you int he centre of the action whether you want it or not. That's essentially what happened.
