Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Thanks, this is really helping for online school right now
I paused the video straight away and tried to solve, but that invisible 1 really fucked me up at the start bro.
Eartrash lol thats why im here
I had to go solve one of these in front of the class and this saved me. My teacher doesn’t explain anything. She tells us what we need to do but she doesn’t explain why and how we are doing it and what it does.
THIS GUY DOES EVERYTHING SO Differently!!

i got an a+ on my math exam cause of this!
I always struggled with the Distributive Property. Appreciated.
Once he added the 1 to replace the 9 I got confused. Why is it a -1 instead of -9 x -9X? Why does the 1 replace the 9??
it didnt-
@Amaryllis. well that explains everything
@@sinistersmallblock the equation here was -9 -(9x+6) and the minus right next to the parenthesis was a -1 mainly because we needed a number to distribute, it cant be the nine since it is being subtracted by something, so
@@amaryllis.2259 thanks for the clarification. I got it now. 👍

Did you ever pass your test?

I don't have any words.. Thank you so much khan academy because of you this just became soo easy. it doesn't matter how hard anything is I just come and search whatever i want to learn by khan academy then boom next minute i am master at it. thank you soo much
What about distribution property with exponents
Kelvin Klimson distributive property is only applicable to addition and subtraction with exponents you go back to the basics of exponents. This, correlates to (x+2) squared, then you equate that to x+2 * x+2. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much for your help !
Loved it the vid
-9 is the smallest you would have to subtract it on both sides.. That’s how I was thought and will it work also?
yeah thought so too im confuse
My brain just divided by zero
The answer is not 0 if that is what you are suggesting (HAHAHA)
@@oliverwei1128 man, the good old days where basic algebra was the worst of my problems

@@Habanecro wow stil here

im so confused buy the invisible -1 what is its purpose, why do we put it there? why not just minus -9 from the first expression?
Thank you that was a life saver
What is the hidden number when there is a negative sign in front of parentheses
The number there would be a 1
Very useful video, except I, can imagine that younger viewers could be confused by -1(9x-6) You can simplify this expression by multiplying by 1, not -1.
At the end of the working out, you can also divide by 21 instead of -21.
why would younger viewers watch this???
@@abdullaalromaihi6440 bc our moms push stuff on us when where 9 :/
@@abdullaalromaihi6440 That's because people have AP classes.

Omfgggg why can't I understand math it takes me way slower to comprehend math then other people I just don't know also don't know how I got straight B's😂
math is a science without it no other science could exist
why did you add that 1 up there? i dont get that
the fact that teaches me better than school says something

You saved my life i would totallu sub but that is a social crisis waiting to happen but really though it really helped me do my work thanks!
I have a problem similar to this one but the answer don't show in the result
Anyone could explain in better words why he worked the 12X twice in both sides? I got confused there because I remembered differently back in school but in not confident cuz it was a decade ago, I’m refreshing for college at this moment

What software is this?
usually we subtracted the -21x\ +21 and another side 21 under +21 equal 42 then x=42
how you come up with -21 in first place, Pleas could you tell me . thanks
He came up with 21 when you subtract -9 -12=21
Thanks
Why does he always start da video," So we have the equation....."?
+Aura Wolf Why not? it works well, and you know what the video is about from the title of the video.
Because it’s a equation-.-
Why did you use -1? how come you did not used just a +1?
Positive( + ) number divided by Negative( - ) number equals Negative( - ) and viseversa
pay attention
-_- to fast
izzekatt that's why you pause the video
how did you get the +6 to turn into a negative 6 without knowing that its a -1 at the start?
If there is a variable next to the number you would do the opposite
Ex: 9x - 6
9x +6
See the difference
But if you’re adding you would subtract
Ex: 9x+6
9x-6
dude how many videos has he made?

you make great tutorials, thanks.
You finished with school? Hope you enjoying your life rn

One of the best ways to make money is to get a good job. Two of the best fields for getting a job are Computer Science and Engineering. Both of those fields take LOTS OF MATH. Which you use every day. Basically, the more math you learn in school, the higher your paycheck will be. Look it up.
