MAVIC considering that the album was written over four years, I always thought this song was about getting back together Justin during 2017 and how good it felt to 'dance again' with him, how she didn't need permission from friends or public commentators, how their trauma is in remission because they worked through their issues... There's double entendres all over the song. Could be about her lupus and kidney transplant, could also be about Justin. Most likely both. Only a theory but this song always makes me sad because it feels true.

Annabelle Diana that’s like telling someone they shouldn’t be happy because people have it better than they do. selena has been through a LOT. she’s been in the acting business since she was 7 years old, singing professionally since the age of 15. she’s been in the public eye, dealing with extreme pressure to look perfect, sing perfect, act perfect. she’s been bullied about her singing abilities, looks, and weight for several years by people who don’t even know her personally, they just spew disgusting hate online. on top of all of that, she was with a very toxic and abusive guy for 9 years who completely destroyed her self esteem. she got diagnosed with lupus in 2012 and dealt with all of its extremely difficult symptoms since. depression, anxiety, chronic arthritis, and even KIDNEY FAILURE which she almost lost her life to in 2017. even after the operation she experienced difficulties and had to be rushed back into the operation room where they cut an artery from her leg and put it in her stomach. right after that, she got back with her abusive and toxic ex, thinking he had changed since it had been a few years since they dated, only for him to turn around, treat her like shit, and cheat on her again for the millionth time. he took advantage of her during her most vulnerable time, right after she almost DIED, and broke her heart again. then got engaged and married only two months after their breakup to one of his side chicks, whom he cheated on selena with many times. don’t EVER try to downplay the shit selena has been through. especially when we don’t even know the half of it. fuck off honestly
