step tb it's amazing what can happen in just 2 years, the live version from 2011 is about a complete 180. If he could sound like this again and he and Vinnie could come together for just one limited tour I would give my left nut to be there. A guy can dream, right? Guess the live videos from their prime will have to suffice.
@@Mopettaja hes been off hard drugs for 15 fucking years. My god, people have NO CLUE what theyre talking about. Now he doesnt even drink. Christ. He'll be 30 years clean someday and people will still run with these MYTHS.
Rex had known how to play fingerstyle since he was a kid, mate. He used to be a jazz player for local bands and got into jazz playing before he developed a more guitar-like style during his tenure with Pantera. He picked for Pantera because it's what suited the band's sound, not because he couldn't play with his fingers.
I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right but I'm just want to share my favorite Stone to Crow was September 21st 1995 at deep ellum live in Dallas Texas ,-check the 31:50 mark - "Forever the brotherhood"
Massive Pantera fan but up until a few days ago had never heard this song by Down. The intro immediately hooked me so I went straight next door, plugged my les paul in and tuned it down to play this. That's music's power
No matter how I try, no matter what I say, I'm blamed I'm shamed I'm judged unfairly. So damn true...no chance to be performed with more emotion in it!!!!
wow their gear is so amazing.. nothing fancy, just real heavy distorted guitars combined with badass bass and an awesome snare that can tear your eardrums
He was suffering from acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancreas which can have severe complications and high mortality despite treatment), Rex began experiencing pain and discomfort in his abdomen during this tour that made him seek treatment. Apparently he had the ailment for 5 years. So I don't think he was feeling well here. But still..he don't look THAT bad here. I think maybe you have a vivid imagination.
Thats what I mean: Anselmo is the man...some people might think he was Dimes shadow or shit like that, but we have to keep in mind: Who was Pantera before Phil? Down is a great band...would not be Down without Phil just as Pantera is not Pantera without Phil...
When Down were playing regular, I wanted to see Pantera more than anything. Now that Pantera are playing (granted, I just saw them) I wanna see Down more than ever haha, life is weird like that
Phil looks and sounds fantastic! After everything, he looks like he's in his 20's and sounds better! Just great to see him hammer out thos notes, happy and full of energy
i totally agree with you guy! phil is THE voice of these past 20 years (deep, warm, still&strong, evokes south's dust and beer) and a fucking impressive frontman still living his music.. Hail to Down, Crowbar, Eyehategod, Coc.......! Cheers from France!
So glad i was there, it was amazing! My first time seeing em, and i was right down the front! about 2 rows from the front and i coudnt move, i couldnt even put my hands up haha Well worth it, amazing!
Phil and Pepper are such an epic collaboration. Not to forget the rest of the band but i loved pantera and coc seperately so to see them in the same band is epic
I dunno, Phil's been getting a lot more respect lately, especially since Down IV came out. It's like everyone remembered he's awesome at once or something.
I ran the New Orleans Marathon 3 weeks ago in the Housecore Records shirt Phil is wearing. When people asked me what the back meant I just said, "Walk on home boy."
Down, está mostrando com o tempo que é uma ótima banda...principalmente,parece que PHIL está recuperado e cantando como na época do cowboys from hell...muito loco mesmo.
this is hands down the best performance of Stone the Crow live...Phil's voice really shines here!
YES!
I couldn't agree more. Their/his best performance ever.
I'm sitting in the front of my PC alone, drinking my 3rd beer, and rocking out to this shit! I love Down!!!
Hey same!! . Down
"Louder next time. That was horse shite."
Quality stuff.
Phil, pepper, kirk, rex, and Jimmy was the best Down lineup imo
Damn right
The real DOWN, they should get Rex and Kirk back when they return
@Sam
Down is a good size band. NOLA sold a quarter million units in the USA as of 2002
Kirk wrote ALL of those tasty riffs.....he clearly possesed the pick of Destiny thru those times...IMO
Totally
You too have died before, I fought as hard as yesterday...
This song has a powerful message
Phil was on fire in this live. I wish he stayed like this.
hopefully he'll sober up soon

Tim Granshaw he ain't gonna sober up BUT, he sounds good still imo atleast for a guy his age.
He's been sober for a few years now actually

This song is timeless...will stil be played on the radios in the year 3000!
Good to see Phil that happy...
3:49 always gives me chills. The vocals are perfectly improvised.
It's short, but i piss my pants every time.
its apart of the song?
@@mrnut8422 you know what improvised means?
Must have listened to this a hundred times...best version I ever heard.

This is probably the best live rendition of the song. Anselmo is nailing every parts. Impressive

Phil made Pantera big. Cant say anything against this fact dude....you just cant...
anselmo lose a little of his voice each year.... but i give fvcking respect to the man for doing it for nearly maybe 25 years!
Crazy that a version 14 years after the studio version is better in every way what a crazy performance damn
Totally agreed. This and the Bury Me in Smoke performance right after this are fucking amazing
Massive Pantera fan but up until a few days ago had never heard this song by Down. The intro immediately hooked me so I went straight next door, plugged my les paul in and tuned it down to play this. That's music's power

This riff lives rent free in my head all year long
Love this live version, I never get sick of it
we NEED this live on blu ray
Phil said he wants to make music an actually sing....
in my opinion it was the right choice...Down is better than SJR
ur a official metal head, literally have seen you comment everywhere 😂😎
@Daniel Loveland They dont really sound like that anymore though...for quite a while.
@Daniel Loveland The newer stuff sounds experimental....not as timeless anymore. Not my style. The EP and so on.

Liferrrrr I love how Phil hair looked like. I had the same hair style for a while to.
fantastic, phil's still got it after all these years. love the riff to this song so much.
It's my birthday, I'm eating seafood, no-one's at home and I'm rocking out to Down... PERFECT DAY, EVER!!!
Phil made a good comeback, and looks great. I hope he stays clean so he can stick around for a long time.
Forever DOWN!

Phil, we owe you everything !
4:45 even for how short this riff is, it's gotta be one of the heaviest and grooviest riffs in metal.
Thats what I mean: Anselmo is the man...some people might think he was Dimes shadow or shit like that, but we have to keep in mind: Who was Pantera before Phil?
Down is a great band...would not be Down without Phil just as Pantera is not Pantera without Phil...

Good to see Rex playing. I saw Down last year and Rex wasn't there.
Just in a period of six six months from this show, Phil changed completely
goddamn, the sound quality on this video is rad. hands down, one of the best sounding videos on this thing.
Phil looks and sounds fantastic! After everything, he looks like he's in his 20's and sounds better! Just great to see him hammer out thos notes, happy and full of energy
This so fucking good. What an amazing song. Phil looked great here
This video came up on random and I seriously thought it was from like '95. Phil sounds amazing and looks on top of his game
this is what defines good badass metal not that fancy european blast beats
Listening to the guitar riff that is the intro makes me feel like taking a big inhale of fresh cold air, filling me with energy.
And they are back this year!!!!!!
Phil was born to do this.
TY for Pantera, but you are the metal King. I so miss this DOWN show's ...
