Thanks for a very thorough review, particularly of the rigging. 8:48 I call that 2-d sheeting since the low friction rings for the headsail sheet leads can be moved in a plane.
I'm starting to like the German style main sheet system. It's somewhat analogous to the headsail leads in that it allows some 2-d positioning to control both mainsail twist and leech shape.
Feedback, the camera moves way too much. It's much better to pan slowly or not move the camera at all.
Nice one Theo👍 🙂
Seeing how deep an angle downwind is possible would be useful. Assume the lack of backstay means spreaders are swept well aft, severely limiting the boom angle.
It’s not terrible, but that aft cabin is really tight! 😬
I do like that “workshop” space, but I would make it pantry space. Perhaps a nice place to put a freezer?
i have a 1988 jeanneau, jeanneau is pretty much a Beneteau nowadays, i like the cockpit space
I appreciate the thorough review, but the wildly unstable camera work makes the video difficult to watch. I guess it gives the viewer a sense what seasickness would be like on the boat.
What about the twin rudder and the control of the boat while maneuvering with the engine? Is it responsive or not so much?
Can you test benetau oceanis 37.1??
i like your Vids but please invest in some sort of camera stabilizers or gimbal or camere with auto stabilzer. The shaking drives one nuts...
Thorough video, well done, as for the yacht, 284k as tested and when you look at the cheap laminate and plywood seat bases, I think a good second hand boat of a better quality brand would be better, lack of storage space and no drawers in the galley is a no also
I am sailing 389. One advantage the SO38. Gas is the front cabin. They have sacrifised the 140 lt two door fridge, bimini , wide aft cabin and many more. The boat has lost several advantages. Eould not change my boat with the new one.
Would you do a storm sailing demonstration in this boat as per Contessa 32?
Honestly this seems to be aimed squarely at the charter market.
If you were buying for yourself, I really don't see much attraction, for less money you could get a slightly older boat but with a much better build quality & possibly already setup for cruising.
Could have done a lot more with this boat.
guess y'all didn't get the memo 'bout the 1-way bottles
Please do these tests with furling main and self tacking jib because it’s what almost all buyers choose to get.
There isn't much actual sailing; it's mostly a tour of the boat.
Also it's not incredibly clear what the market is for this boat. It seems more day sailer or coastal cruiser than bluewater cruiser.
Well, it's certainly not blue water. Hamble -Cowes-Hamble or Benodet-Glenans-Benodet on sunny days at the weekend.
No cutlery drawer!? 🤨
Horrendous interior the cabin sole is so profoundly ugly
25:54 330 liters of fresh water plus an option for another 110L (assuming it matches the diesel tank on the other side) is a crazy amount of water for a boat this size.
At that point build in a substantial house bank, and some solar for a water maker.
