    Ive cycled in Dubai for 3 years now and can tell you the cycle paths get VERY repetitive. Ive done al qudra about 100 times and I can tell you it does get awfully repetitive, and cycling on the roads is almost suicide because they’re all 6 lane highways…

      Also doesn't look like many climbs, I'd go insane just because of that.

      @@ezeekwheelI’d be happy just to HAVE bike paths where I live.

      @@CT-vm4gf If the roads were unrideable definitely. But considering pretty much all of Europe is half decent quiet road I'll take that every day. Especially considering how frequently you can find little shops its far more convenient. Dubai would only really be good if you're a pro looking to just train on uninterrupted roads. And even then there aren't really any climbs so it's not amazing for that either. I've completed 1700km of unique road just in my local area and even with that I sometimes get bored of certain areas

    As cool as that infrastructure is, I can't help but think it would get pretty boring compared to the roads we can explore back in the UK or Europe. That sun though, beginning to forget what it looks like 😂

    As a cyclist i go cycling to be at peace with nature, sounds animals and birds, visiting different places by different routes, sometimes interacting with fellow cyclists on road and off, dirt track or a road.
    For me Dubai looks car orientated ok for the Top Gear lot, but so boring hen youve done all the loops around the area, also see you got driven to the cycle lanes so as other have said to many cars to cycle there safely.
    PS if you want sand go to Southport.

  • @ShiftyXC
    @ShiftyXC Před rokem +1

    1- It gets boring after even 10 times riding on Al Qudra.
    2- Weather is usually awful! You have only 3 months to ride your bike outside peacefully. Otherwise, it just is so hot and humid, even in the very late night or early morning.
    3- If you are living just a bit far to the nearest cycling path, you need to take your bike into your car and drive to the start of the path!
    4- Don't even consider riding your bike on a normal car road. Very dangerous.
    5- I have been to many places in UAE, and I can say that road bike paths, mountain bike paths are quite well-built, BUT, it just gets boring after a short amount of time.
    6- Everything is much more expensive compared to Europe. So buy your spare items when in the EU, or order them from there.

    Abu Dhabi is another option for cycling. Can't beat it. Can do hundreds of Kilometers on open safe roads where the speed limit is 80kmhr. Much more exciting than the laps of qudra and also so much safer than the highways.

  • @seanmeager
    @seanmeager Před rokem +2

    My view, as someone that lived an cycled there for a couple of years, is it's an unusual experience for a one off, however, now do the same loop in desert every week for the rest of your life. Add in, getting up to start at 4:30am in summer.
    In terms of cyclists and drivers, it's irrelevant since cycling on roads with a speed limit 60 kmh or greater, or pretty much any road, is illegal. That being said, when I lived there, I did cycle on the roads. It's an awful experience. So, if you want to cycle in Dubai, you will also need a car, so you can drive to a track in the desert.
    If you do go back, it's more interesting to go to Ras al Khaimah and cycle up Jebel Jais.

    I was lucky enough to cycle in Israel when a friend and I went to watch the start of the 2018 Giro. We were advised that it could have some possible risks to cycle from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. given that it does not have a big cycling community it was the best and most memorable ride I have ever experienced. The people were lovely, drivers were extremely generous with road space and tarmac smooth as silk and I would take it any day of the week over a UK road where road cycling has literally become a threat to life. Sometimes you just have to try and see what happens.

    • @neilgordon6450
      @neilgordon6450 Před rokem +5

      I live in Israel….on the whole drivers are ok but there are some assholes. There are not enough cycle lanes yet but they are slowly adding more to the network. As for riding from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, that’s brave. What route did you take?

    • @TheSadcyclist
      @TheSadcyclist Před rokem +3

      Also been to Israel and the thing was all the traffic was slower on wide roads and in Tel Aviv, than in the UK, would have loved to hire a bike there as it was a fantastic place to visit, so freindy but oh so hot. Intercity coaches also took bikes for free, under floor storage.
      Look forward to Can doing Israel next year.

    Cam, next time you're over, head down to Abu Dhabi; we do cycle on the roads. Early in the morning, it's safe enough, and we have. a few more cycle tracks to go on. It will give you a different view of cycling in the Middle East. And if you get a chance, head down to Liwa to really cycle in the middle of the desert.

    Wish they built more cycle tracks in our many fields in the UK, especially to cut out places on common routes where have to take main roads at times. Could compensate the farmers simply by letting them build a house or two on their land. That alone would be worth a lot to a farmer.

      As for the safety. It’s safe to ride the tracks but the roads are another issue. The driving standards are generally poor so cycling on the roads can be interesting… Whilst qudra is great, it gets boring very quickly
