when we had a mass event in nz, the media was banned from saying his name and the prime Minister jacinda adern refused to say his name in public. she wanted to give him no fame, instead she concentrated all her energy on the victims and their names. absolutely brilliant. to this day i don't know his name and have no desire at all in finding out. he deserves no noteriety at all

Thats one thing i hate about american news, 20mins after something like this happens and their entire sob story is broadcast everywhere when they should remain un named and forgotten, even in terror attacks they do the same thing, Give out their name and their whole life story and broadcast their face everywhere and gives them their martyrdom, but then they wont make any money milking the news story for months after an event happens and fuel more political arguments so i doubt jack squat will change anytime soon

    RIP Common Sense!!
As a Canadian, I was well aware of the US gun laws when I moved to Phoenix, Az, in 2000. What caught me off guard as I walked into a bank (of America) which kept the teller safely behind four inches of plexiglass, for fear of being held up by a potential shooter.
Behind the teller, high up on the wall was a big sign that read to the effect that if you opened an account with them, you could be in ownership of any one of the five handguns displayed, as a thank you for your business.
The teller noticed me reading the banner and asked if I was interested in opening an account with them... I looked at her and stated I would need a bank with better sense at it's helm, as any bank that gave away guns, was far too goofy to be handling my money! I say BRING BACK COMMON SENSE, before it escapes us completely and is only regaled thru whispers of better days filled with logic and efficiency!!

If a bank is going to give you a pistol, they aren't going to give it away on the spot. You would have to pick it up at a Federaly licensed gun shop (FFL), fill out paper work and pass a background check. If you have any criminal history you will be denied ownership of the pistol and it will be on your record that you tried to purchase a gun. If there are 2 banks im choosing to go too, and I have the ability to know there are 4 armed citizens in one bank and 0 armed citizens in the other, I'm going to the one with 4 armed citizen. If a bank robber with a gun shows up with the intent to kill everyone in the bank and rob the place, 4 guys living their everyday lives that carry a gun on them are going to do everything they can do to not be killed (i would hope) and protect others inside that are innocent and unarmed. 4 good guys with guns vs 1 bad guy with a gun are better odds than me choosing the other bank and there being 1 bad guy with a gun and a bunch of people not being able to stop him. Gun control shouldn't be control the guns. As much as I hate to admit it, if a criminal is gonna get a gun he will get a gun. I'm 100% anti gun control and gun banning, and I personally believe everyone should carry a gun. But if there was a gun control law that would 100% take away all guns, but also would 100% stop any criminal from getting a gun and nobody ever died due to a gun again, I would vote for that law. Our English friend here even said it himself there are 6 guns for every 100 people in the Uk, and if that statistic is accurate thats still over 600,000 guns in the UK that the government knows about, not the ones they dont. And people still die in the Uk every year due to gun violence, and that's not good enough for me.

Even my grandfather(who btw is for having guns and wish we could have them at home) said that it was stupid that gun laws weren't discussed. I live in Sweden, we have pretty strict gun laws(not even the military are allowed to have their guns at home anymore, after an incident in 2006. I remember dad having his AK at home when I was younger, but he had to hand it in in 2006) and even if this didn't happen in Sweden it still hit pretty hard. I know this is a bit of a divergence but a lot of this stems from how America was set up from its inception as a nation. American people are afforded freedoms and everything not covered is illegal that is why historically they hang on to them so fiercely. In the UK we are technicaly free to do as we please unless it is on the list as illegal. It is a subtle difference that has perpetuated a mind set for a couple of hundred years. In the UK the emphasis and ownace is very much on the responsibility of the individual to act rationally and keep themselves and others safe. That is why killing an intruder is illegal, because rationally this is a disproportionate response to a break in. In the US though you have the legal freedom/right (however you phrase it) to defend your property, so that action is justified. It is also reflected in the classic jaywalking in the states, no one really thought about it and thus it isn't afforded in your freedoms and so it is illegal, where as in the UK no one bothered to think about it so it is just your responsibility to do it in a way that doesn't get you and others killed.

The thing that always makes me laugh about this is that you will hear countless Americans say "Well you have so many stabbings in the UK, so how is it safer....if someone comes at me with I knife I'd shoot them because of the second amendments I'm safer".....My answer to that pile of excrement for an arguement is....1. You cannot stab someone 30-40 times a second, you can however shoot someone that many times. 2. You need to be closer to someone to stab them so you get more of a chance to either stop them or fight them off. You can be hundreds of feet away with any fire arm!!!. 3. The criminal element wouldnt have knifes if there are ample guns available so the end of your statment is moot. There is a reason that criminals here have a large number of knives...they are a damn site easier to get hold of! As Russ said in the video, there are more gun shops than McDs and Supermarkets combined....when its easier to get a weapon than it is to get food you have a massive bloody problem.

America just needs to restrict its gun laws even just a little would go so far. The kind of weapons that civilians can buy is madness. A civilian does not need military grade weapons. I understand if a law abiding person wants a gun I don’t oppose that but they need better education on guns and tighter laws over what you can buy, who can buy them and how easy they are to get. A few restrictions on ammo wouldn’t hurt either. But I get that yeah people are responsible for their actions not the gun but if you’re making it so easy to get one no wonder every overly dramatic pissed off citizen can go on a spree. The whole system need an overhaul there are other factors to consider not just the gun laws. For example how America treats its people also needs improving the pay gap between rich and poor plus racial lines is the highest in the world. As Russell said you don’t fix a problem with a problem. They need to look at the whole system to see where the problem is that’s causing people to make the decision that taking lives is the option they feel is the only route they have left and stop that before it escalates.

You've got to actually look at the stats and how they've been fudged.
"OMG 400 mass shootings last year"
This figure comes when you define mass shooting as "An incident where 3 or more people were injured using firearms"
That's just a slow evening in Chicago.
When you hear the term "mass shooting" you think "nutjob takes a big gun and tries to kill as many innocent civilian people as possible"
Gang shootouts shouldn't be included in the figure, but they still get included to help push an agenda. Most of these gang shootouts involve weapons that are already illegally owned, stolen, with serial numbers scratched off, modified to shoot faster, and more.
There are plenty of things that anti-2a campaigners campaign for, like background checks, which already exist and are enforced on a federal level universally across the United States. It's important to be honest about the figures when talking about this because when you pretend like a few crips getting capped is anything comparable to a nightclub getting shot up, it's gigantically disrespectful to the victims of the real mass shootings.

    • @ivanivanovic5857

The government should be absolutely fucking terrified of the people. That's why we need military grade weapons.
There's also the point that the military uses all kinds of weapons, including knives, dogs, fighter jets, tanks, pistols, rifles, machine guns, garrotes, land mines, warships, jeeps, and more. All used as weapons. So how do we draw the line between what military grade weapons we can and can't have. And if you say "well just use some common sense" how about you use some common sense to explain how Boris would have had the guts to have his parties if he knew that if we found out, we could have shot up those parties.

Just an opinion but if the US banned guns today it would take decades for it to make any difference, if ever, if there are 300 million guns there, and I'm assuming that is just ones that are legal? They're not going to simply dissappear. The only people who would hand them over would be those who own one "just because" but don't share the enthusiasm of their compatriots to carry a weapon whenever they choose. Then you're left with the ones that no one knows about, Russell quoted that in the uk there are only 6 guns per 100 population, that actually sounds like a lot but again it's only taking into account the ones that are held legally, how many are out there that no one knows about? Let's face it, if you intend to use a gun for criminal purposes you're hardly likely to go through the intense rigmarole of registering it legally in much the same way that if you were intending to commit an armed robbery you'd hardly use your own car as the getaway vehicle. I agree something has to change but outlawing guns would exasperate the problem because most of the guns would still be out there but no one would know who had them or where they were. Since it became illegal to carry a knife in England has anyone been stabbed?
