Kasey didn't do this for fame. She already is a hugely successful artist in Australia. She did it because Eminems version moved her and she wanted to pay homage to him.

The begining of her interpretation of lose yourself is great. She turned Eminem's anger and rage of grabbing that chance to make it, into the anguish and struggle to be successful. With the same lyrics!, that's pure genius. The rock section was just icing on a beautifully layered cake.

this recording was a ‘sleeper’ - something Kasey worked out during lockdown, it’s her creation, she is an enormously respected artist here in Australia - please don’t disrespect her. She is a creative force of nature, her voice is an amazing gift. I’ve been a fan for close to 30 years… I’ll leave it to others to fill in her backstory. next work of hers you could look at is ‘Ain’t no Little Girl’

Kaseys career and body of work and legacy is already set in stone in Australia (youngest ever inductee into the hall of fame, one of her Songs being used on the Sopranos etc).
So no she, didn't do the song for "the fame". She was on lockdown during covid and needed something to tackle creatively and as a fan of Eminem she created this

She definitely would have looked right in to the words and even lived them. Earlier on in her career she wasn't taken very seriously and struggled for some of the public etc to accept her etc. Since then she has been the youngest artist to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. She's not always my style of music, but I totally respect her for her talent and how she wears her heart on her sleeve. This performance totally confirms that belief. Brilliant from all angles. Including her father Bill on the steel lap slide, he definitely made that thing cry!

Kasey's motivation for doing this is of no consequence. She doesn't need to ride on the back of someone else's 20 year old lyrics. Just because you don't know of her doesn't mean she's not a superstar. You've probably never heard of John Farnham, either.

She lived these lyrics. You look at her early career and she more than 20 years ago she had huge critical acclaim but was ignored by radio stations because she didn't look like a pop princess. She released a song call 'am i not pretty enough' in response to this and it ended up being a huge hit.

Thanks for doing this one! This gives me chills every single time I hear it. Kasey going from that resigned, laid back approach early in the song to the fighting emotion later is beyond powerful! 💪🏼 Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has, as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see head-banging with a banjo, steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. From what I understand, Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar and her brother Nash on lead guitar and backing vocal. Full kudos to Eminem for his songwriting. Personally, the reason Kasey’s version affects me so much is all down to the fact that she did lose herself in the music, the moment during this performance. Kasey kept the cadence but slowed it down, even in the full rock part. She is a true blue Aussie who will leave her soul bared on stage every single time. ❤ The video was a montage from the audiences phone vids… deliberately done to make it a more intimate experience.

@@BPDProductions-fd9fe so you say by the end you concluded that was ‘probably’ not her motivation?! Yet you say you didn’t prejudge her. Obviously you did if you didn’t make that conclusion til the end. What makes you assume that Eminem’s a big star but Kasey is not… just because you, an American hadn’t heard of her. That’s called prejudging.

Kasey in no way did this for “fame”! 😡 Kasey is famous in her own right here in Australia. Kasey did this purely because she is a massive fan of Eminem and wanted to show her respect to the original artist. As Kasey is a singer/songwriter she is someone who only does covers because the songs personally move her. Covid did a lot of harm worldwide but for singer/songwriters, the lockdowns have been a blessing in disguise as they have had time to work on their art and in this case, Kasey’s cover is beyond awesome! ❤

  • @Oliver_Cumberland
    @Oliver_Cumberland Před rokem +2

My thanks for watching Kasey but, like most of the others commenting, I think you do Kasey an injustice when you say things like: I wonder about her motivation, that if she did an eminem cover it would bring her fame; "I'm sure she's famous in her own way, this is her shot at superstardom." [A litle condescending that - "I'm sure she's famous in her own way" - don't you think?]
It's not really your fault. You are reacting blind to an artist you have never heard of.
But you couldn't be more wrong.
Kasey first sang on stage with her father's band when she was 10; she released her first solo album when she was 23; she has 11 studio albums and numerous awards, she has toured the USA with sold-out shows and glowing reviews - e,g, The Huffington Post and Paste Magazine.
To think that she did this cover for "superstardom" totally miss-understands Kasey. She writes most of the song she performs and many are autobiographical. She has said she is a long-time eminem fan and for some time thought of doing "Lose Yourself" with a banjo. The COVID lock-down gave her the opportunity.
Finally, consider the 3 shows she is playing in July:
Thalon - a town in grain growing country in QLD with a population of less than 300; the closest towns (640 pop.) is only 40km (25miles) but the closest city, Brisbane, is 440km (273miles) away
Darwin - capital of the Northern Territory, an Australian "stste", with a population of 140,000; Darwin is very isolated, closer to Indonesia than it is to most of the Australian population
Fitzeoy Crossing - a remote WA town with the closest towns 391km (253 miles) west and 298km (185 miles) east; the total population of the Fitzroy Crossing region is less than 4,000 people.
Kasey looks after her fans. Those aren't the sort of places a person who released a video aiming for super stardom plays.
