Whoa, you made it all the way down here! Thank you ♥️ Love you
Hey what a great episode! I couldn't comment in the live chat for some reason but at least I can leave my support here
Strange that you couldn't comment on the livestream, but thanks for watching.
When my bees go into Winter I give them a complete Super with Honey as well feed them Sugar Water. My Belief is being greedy affects the bees taken away there chances of surviving Winter I prefer to much food then to less food for the bees, on top of that in the Spring they build up quicker as they have much more resources in the hive not lost a single hive through starvation for the last five years since I changed to my new system! Lost hives from mites as the mites weakened the hive so much.
great video !!
Thank you!
Sadly this is the first livestream that I couldn't be there for live in quite some time. Great information given as usual!
Sorry you missed it Tom, always great having you
Thank you for all your knowledge. First year beek and they have been slow drawing comb. You have reassured me! With all the rain they ate up their stores so I started feeding.
Thanks for watching and subscribing.
I'm so upset I didn't get the notification last night. I just got it. I really wanted to see this live and ask questions.
Remember I'm live every Thursday at 7pm Central Time and you can always use this link: www.honeybeesonline.com/live/
I put on Facebook and local town talk, that my daughter and I would take swarms, so for people to not call an exterminator, because we would come get them! Well, we got 6 swarms.....my fear is the last we got last Friday....They all are working so hard, but I do worry about them surviving this winter and want them to be as strong as possible! Have even thought about combining some of them...but afraid they will just fight! I have been feeding them sugar water, pollen patties, and water close to them! I just can't help but worry about them! Thanks for the video!!! I did treatment for mites today.... trying my best!
Do not worry about combining them if you have to, because you can combine them using the newspaper trick. Here's a video I made 7 years ago on how to combine hives using the newspaper trick: czcams.com/video/HKfnFQk08Wg/video.htmlsi=5OuvzbwDXIZwxXVA
On the sugar, water issue, and mold. If you put honey, be healthy in there which has a essential oils and all it will not mold I it without and mold I put that in there did not mold. Just saying.
63 rd forth of July sale... Maybe David's or Sheri's 63rd Independence Day since birth???
Has something to do with the signing of the declaration.
It's the old story got to take from Peter to feed Paul 😆
I get 2 supers on a new hive most years I live in around lots of brown knap weed fields of it and it pops out July right threw until September I live next to a park also and most of the land is never touched as it’s protected so the bees really do good
Yes, so many beekeepers around knapweed get a great honey crop from it. Spotted knapweed is an invasive plant and it's not loved by farmers.
The amount of people I come across who think they will start beekeeping with one hive, I explain if you start with one hive you have no back up hive to help them if things turn bad like a loss queen etc. I tell people Beekeeping is YOGA it's relaxing you are one with Nature.
True
Where can I I get the local honey for sale sign ?? Great video! Thank 🎉
Sorry it’s been so long. I have no idea.
Gals sure have been loud past few days fanning to keep their cool! LOL I have no entrance reducers on with screened bottoms plus cracked lids a little. SO far so good. Not much bearding even.
I’m make sure you still have a queen. If they lose their queen, they will get loud as well. The lack of bearding and being loud . It’s something to check.
Fingers crossed, I hope we don't have more hot weather this summer
I had this last year. It was my first year and I *thought* everything was good, but it wasn't very strong going into winter and they died mid-january.
I took the online course, and I see what went wrong. She wasn't A+, she was a C queen. Broody but not enough. I thought they wanted to swarm, many queen cells all the time. I see not they wanted to replace her. I feed them, tested for varroa (very low numbers). But they just could get their numbers up for winter with a slow layer.
Got 2 nucs this year. 1 is huge, grows 4-5 frames every 7-10 days. The other is weak. Will be requeening end of the month.
That is so wonderful to hear, I'm going to make a video about your experience to help other understand what you've come to know. Knowledge is powerful!
When transferring a brood frame ,when can you treat to make sure you are not transfer mites into the already weak hive?
You can transfer after the treatment has reduced mites.
If bees like to build down in summer, then eat upward in winter, is there a reason we couldn't use regular langstroth furniture, and just add boxes under like the warre people? We'd not have to wonder how much honey to leave for the bees, just take in spring whatever they didn't eat over the winter? Seems easier for beginners? Assuming we have a friend to help us lift of course.
Worth a try
I make sure I have 10 nucs going into winter they save bee yards
I think i heard it, but i just want to double-check. When taking resources to a weak hive, do you need to shake the bees from the resource hive back into before transfering to the new hive?
I take bees and all
