Here's a community post answering some frequently asked questions about the Anthropologie Dresser Dupe. I recorded this video last week after we hit 1,000 subs (and before I was approved for community posts) and now we're almost 4x that! 😱 Thank you guys so much for all the kindness and encouragement, I can't wait to share my next project with you
Thanks! How many hours did this rehabilitation take?
Do you have to press the sculpted pieces (leaves and birds) onto the surface? How do you prevent flattening the sculpted piece if so?
So no need for glue?
Was ist das für eine Paste? Es ist sehr schön geworden.
Congratulations! You are very deserving for that gorgeous piece of art! Turned out beautifully. If I worked with clay like that, I’m not sure how it would turn out but after seeing yours, it makes me want to try! 💜
Ok, l give up, where are the drawer handles? Excellent job by the way!!
The tree branches ? !
The birds XD?
That's was my first tough too.
I feel like if I tried to pull on the birds or branches, to get the drawers open, it would eventually break.
Beautiful dresser, though.
@@MissTapsit yea me too
I love your idea of cutting a 3d mold in half! Sometimes it's hard to find opposite molds.
Out of all the DIY videos I've seen on CZcams (and I've seen tons) this is probably the best/most accurate result from the inspiration piece I've seen, and you made it look reasonably easy!
I absolutely agree and was about to write the same message. What a fabulous result! Kudos to a job so well done!
I totally agree! This is truly amazing and looks so much better than your inspiration piece. I am definitely hooked now and cannot wait to watch more. Thank you for sharing!
I noticed that the drawers were sticking a bit when you tried to put them in/out. A helpful hint I discovered many moons ago is to take either a bar of soap or a wax candle and run it along the drawers and the drawer runners. This even helps with sliding aluminium doors.
For the pulls, consider a trompe l'oeil effect. Take that clay back off the shelf and use the leaf molds to make some drawer pulls. You could probably find a mushroom shape wooden pull and add a leaf to the top. Place the leafy knobs so they appear to attach to the branches. There is no rule that says all drawers must have either center pull or a pair of pulls. The only necessity is that you can pull the drawers straight out instead of at a crooked angle. It's puzzling why the inspiration piece does not have pulls either. Perhaps you could ask them about that. You've done beautiful work here.
The dresser is gorgeous. I've not seen this technique before. It's like instead of comfort food, it's a comfort vision. Lovely.
Oh my! This make me want to sculpt every piece of furniture I can in my house. Absolutely beautiful and eloquently done!
Elegantly. Eloquent refers to speech.
@ber9313 thanks for the grammar correction 🫡
Looks fabulous! I also was wondering about how the heck to open the drawers. On the Anthropology dresser you can grab the sides (looks like the drawers go all the way across) Anyway, you did a great job and I vote for leaf pulls also.
The anthropology dresser has leaves as the handles.
@@JannyMaha the anthropology piece is not resessed the drawers open by the sides
Everytime I see something like this, I think of the Tiny Twavellers Set by Felix & Harry for the Sims4. :D
@@AeonSaint exactly what I thought when I saw it 😄 their cc is the best, hands down.
It's SOOO GOOD! Honestly by far one of the best diy projects I've seen in a long time.
I really enjoyed it 1. It looks amazing & expensive. 2. There wasn't a million steps. I think some diy stuff has gotten a little extra lately. 3. It's totally affordable. I don't want to dupe something if I'm only saving a 100 bucks ya know? But this ABSOLUTELY worth the savings. 4. The products don't feel unapproachable. 5. Which just sums up everything, this feels totally doable and yet so impressive. I'm absolutely going to try and recreate for my daughter's nursery.
😍😍🤩🤩
Agreed! I feel like I'm watching Chef John but with DIY!
This is the most badass diy I have seen in a long time
Bird mold cut in half is brilliant!
If you use a clear rather than satin coat, the grain of the wood will really pop and move. You can easily get a more satin sheen with a fine steel wool if you want to, or you can second coat with satin. You can always go more satin but you can't go more clear, especially on a detailed piece like this. Satin is clear coat (gloss) with a fine powder added. Have sculpted many furniture pieces and walls using plaster relief techniques in a coinage style. Really love the idea of the two part with its adhesive qualities.
I had a old dresser that I made like yours and everyone loves it! The only thing I did differently was I had my husband router the underneath of each drawer before I used the clay. Each drawer is still flat, but has a way to now access each with no any ugly pulls showing. Thank you so much for your video. It truly inspired me to attempt something beautiful during the pandemic.
Beautiful, but how do you open the drawers? I’d have trouble opening them without any knobs or handles.
This is the most beautiful piece of DIY furniture I’ve witnessed on CZcams. Stunning! 🌿🕊🌸🕊🌸🕊🌿
This artsy girl is definitely going to give this a try. I need a new project too! ☺️
Your a genius.
Beautifully explained and carried out.
I would love that to show off in my home.
I would admit it wasnt my work.
Stunning.
Absolutely amazing!!
Wow is this beautiful!!! Great job!!
So beautiful and I’m super inspired!!! Can’t wait to see more of your channel!!
You did a great job on this piece!
Just an FYI: will be doing this, on a larger scale, to my front door
I would love to see that! It sounds amazing 🤩

Waiting for 4 inch bird molds. When completed I will send photos 🤞
That turned out absolutely stunning!
Stunning! I am in LOVE!
What an artist! Wow!
Hun thank you immensely for your voiced audio I’m an audio learner and the best thing you could do to help me understand is explaining things verbally like this, thank you so much, you are so sweet!
I’m so glad you liked it! 😊
Love, love, love this piece! I'm inspired!!
This is an amazing dupe!!! What a great job!!!
Simply gorgeous! Love the detail.
That piece is stunning! Thank you for sharing, you make it look easy
This is beautiful & I love the color it turned out !
I'm blown away by this! so much care
I’m blown away! That was beautiful and you just got my creative juices flowing... ❤️
That is just amazing. In the beginning I questioned the steps you were adding but each one was perfect!
My first video to check out of yours. This dresser is gorgeous!!
Wow! This is beautiful 😍 you did a great job!
Unbelievable! Love, love, love!
Work of Art. I just love it.
I love this! Great job
Amazing! Keep up the good work! Love the look!
Absolutely beautiful. Your talent is super great. Love this dresser sooooo much.
Not sure how you ended up in my recommended, but I'm loving it!
Greetings from the UK! I think your version is far better than the original.
Absolutely amazing talent!!! Love this❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely gorgeous..... looks amazing. What a beautiful job you did.
You are a master of your art the piece looks awsome.
Gorgeous !!!! Such a great job!!
Amazing transformation!🤍♡🤍
OMG! What a beautiful piece of work. Totally impressed with your ability to do this. Gorgeous!!!
I've been a faux finisher for 20 years, that was fantastic! You've got a nice eye for color, and now I'm wanting to try out this clay you used as well. Very good job!
This was so beautiful!!! My mind is racing at the different possibilities with the clay on different furniture pieces
That was absolutely beautiful. A cherished piece.
Ditto on everyone else’s drooling and amazement!! I think you have the entirety of the interwebs in awe 😍
Out of curiosity, could you do a sequel to this where you spitball some ideas of other themes that could be easily done from clay? This is just jaw dropping, truly!!!
Wow once I saw you sculpting that clay I was super impressed, your ingenuity is much appreciated in the creative community of furniture DIYers. ❤️❤️❤️
this is INCREDIBLE you nailed this!!!!
Definitely a showpiece for the home! Thank you for sharing your process with us!
fantastic! I did a dresser using a different clay... this looks like a much better result! Ill try it when i return to the states! Thanks
This piece is PHENOMENAL!! I immediately subscribe because of the tremendous results shown. I can’t wait to watch your channel! 💖💕💞
Me too .
Absolutely stunning!! Love this!!!!
Wow. That turned out gorgeous. Way to go!!
What a fantastic idea. It turned out so beautiful. I'm going to have to try it. I'm curious how it would work to do a white wash on the dresser with DIY brand paint, then use the same color as the paint on the sculpted piece. I've never tried the sculpt putty you used I have only seen people use clay. I have got to try this
This is amazing and your very clear instructions were perfect. Looking forward to seeing more of your artistry.
Stunning! How much Apoxie Sculpt did you use on this project?
Omgosh. I have been drooling over those pieces for months. Wonderful job!
This is beautiful you did an amazing job looks great
Wow!!! Amazing! You did an excellent job with this. I would love to have this in my home. You should be really proud of this piece.
Well now you know how to do one for yourself :-)
I think you made the right choice getting a quart of paint. I've heard that the color sample are not as durable as paint, since they are only intended to help you choose a color. Your dresser turned out so beautiful. I'm an avid bird watcher and I'm seriously tempted to make one myself.
Simply not true. Sample pots are made to take home and test out and hopefully you will return to buy litres of that paint. So the manufacturer makes the same quality in samples to get you to buy bigger amounts. I buy sample pots and haven't seen any differences for over 30 years now.
Well done, it is a one of a kind beautiful piece. Love it.
This is absolutely fabulous, beautiful job.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, this is just so lovely! Thank you for this great work, it's very inspiring!
I'm shook! The dresser is absolutely stunning!!
Ha I wrote 20 paragraphs. Turns out, your "I'm Shook" is far more effective. Going to try that next time. 🤣
@@b.walker5955 Feel you B.~ working on that very thing these days. It's that 'less is more thang", right?! - A Wordy Wanda in AZ
@@RV-there-Yet Here here. I over bake everything. Less is more..we can do this WW in AZ.
It’s just stunning! I love it. 💗
AMAZING!!! Totally In love with that!! You rock 🙌🏼
Beautiful! You have done such a lovely job on this piece. I wonder though, how does the epoxy that was used in the making of the tree and birds, stick to the dresser? Is it delicate and might it fall off?
Very inspiring project - well done!! Question: How did you get the birds and leaves to adhere to the wood without pressing the detail out of them?
when I've worked in bas relief similarly I would sculpt on a board wrapped with a piece of tin foil and glue the dried decorative element onto the wall or furniture after it dried. I don't know if her leaves are going to be as durable long-term. I'd be curious to see this piece a year later and hear how well it's held up
@@melindawolfUS This is inrw8to hear your experience. What kind of adhesive would you recommend, to glue to the wall? I'd love to find out :)
Maybe you could also press it to the wood while still in the mould and then simply peel the mold off - dont know if that would work just an idea
@@chunkybird1241 I use gorilla glue to adhere my paper clay to wood.
This is an awesome project!!
Love it!!
This is absolutely gorgeous. I would have never thought of doing this.
This is absolutely beautiful, it's given me so many ideas! I have been dreaming of cherry blossom branches on my old beat up jewelry armoire (it now holds beauty items), now I know exactly how I can make that happen!
Thank you! I love that idea!
Emily - I hope you go for it - sounds like a great piece to do - I think a lot of us have had a jewelry armoire - probably about 15 years ago, I gave mine away & got the kind you hang on the wall with the mirror on the front, but what a good idea to use it for cosmetics !
@@Melody-285 the qvc lady from shark tank lori grenier sells a jewelry box that my mom bought me, my dog crashed it into the floor so I need to fix it, but she sells matching cosmetics boxes where I got the idea, I have one of hers for most of my makeup but the rest of it sits in my old jewelry armoire with my hair stuff and tbh it's perfect for it, I use the ring slots for small hair clips and pins so even that's not wasted space, I have my mom's old jewelry armoire that's slightly better situated than either of mine are as it has more necklace holders and less room for tiny jewelry boxes (the part that is perfect for storing tall cans of spray and lotions in my soon to be cherry blossom armoire) and more little velvet lined niches for pendants and such so it's more accommodating for my needs
@@emilymulcahy sounds like you have a place for everything ! Love being organized like that - my mom, who’s gone now, had a beautiful tall jewelry armoire that my sister wanted - we have tried to keep & use a lot of our mom’s favorite things - I wish I could see your cherry blossom armoire when it’s done - CZcams needs to figure out a way for people to share pictures - thanks for sharing your story about your dog - lol - I have my mom’s little Pekingese & I had a beloved chocolate Lab who I lost 2 years ago to cancer - enjoy your mom& your fur baby while you have them - time really does fly & the older you get, the faster it goes, I’m finding ! Hope you & your family are all safe & well 🥰
@@Melody-285 it may be a while, but I will come back with a link if I can, so she can see it and you too
That turned out stunning! How long does the clay take to set up and is there any danger of the pieces falling off at some point?
Omg this is amazing. Great job!
Came out so nice-I love it.
Amazing-but I think the anthro price might be a bargain, I would totally mess this up. Great Talent here!!
This is stunning! You are so creative and I am curious how long from start to finish it took you? I imagine it is a project you work on for a bit each week. I just can’t get over how lovely it is! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much! Yes it was a project I worked on when I could (like during baby naps & weekends) so it took a while. I would estimate it was probably between 12 and 15 hours total work time :)
I use birds often in my decorating....and this is one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture I have ever seen!
This is incredible! Well done!!
It is NOT always that easy to sand down! You also have times where it appears to be wood and you start to sand only to discover it's actually a thin veneer. 🤦🏼♀️
Yes, I marveled at the fact that she'd found a SOLID pine dresser!
Look for second hand Ikea! They have pine drawers :) (the Ivar collection, or Rast)
Sauder, I'm looking at YOU!
@@AnneMaaikie really?🤔
@@maximoreds Yes, they do.
OK..OK..OK..!!!!!! ..NOOOOO…!!!!! GIRL...!!!!
I was so impressed watching you do this..that my jaw was literally dropped...
THEN..YOU START DOING THE BIRDS LITTLE FEET...!!!!! And I’m thinking people wish they could be talented...
GIRL...TALENTED WISHES IT COULD BE YOU...!!!! GET OUT...!!!!!
Hahaha oh my gosh thank you so much!
Wow! You did a wonderful job! I love it!
Beautiful job! It is so nice to see you do the sculpting; you are an artist.
I love this so so so much but.... how do you open it? ;o;
Wow this looks amazing. I always use polycrylic on my stuff. Dries super fast and clear I don't like the way polyurethane turns yellow.
Great job though! 👍👍
Thank you! Yeah the yellowing is such a bummer, I will try polycrylic next time! 😊
Yes, I always use polycrylic instead of polyurethane for the same reasons!
Great job! This is gorgeous
Love this!! Great job!!
This is beautiful! Does the clay really adhere to the wood? I’d be worried that they would separate over time
That's what I was thinking! How are they adhering to the wood?
I’m wondering about the weight on the drawers and front legs? I love the video, epoxy clay is new to me.
It's not clay, it's epoxy clay. It does stick to anything. BJD collectors use it to stick to resin, others to plastic.
@@KathleenVOTES you could screw it to the wall through the back to be sure. A lot of Ikea furniture has that option
This was my concern. It didn't even look like she pressed the leaves or birds down; just laid them on.
Share a picture when you add the drawer handles please
That turned out amazingly beautiful!
That's absolutely gorgeous! Wow! Thanks for showing us how you did it! 💜
STUNNING... how long did this take from start to finish? You are so talented
Thank you! I slowly worked on it for a few months during my free time 😊
@@HappyHomeMama It's simply beautiful!!!
Maybe add butterfly drawer pulls? I like the leaf idea but that was needed in the pre-planning. The butterflies can be put where you want, after the fact. Or add a few small butterflies to tie the piece together.
Beautiful work. God bless.
