You skipped over the only part I need help with: How to lock the two pieces in place so that they don't slide apart. You said something about a piece of plastic, but you didn't show us what it was or what to do with it. I guess I'll just drill a whole and put a screw through the two pieces to hold them in the one spot.
I'm taking this back. It doesn't have a rubber stopper in the middle to keep it from sliding.
What piece did you put in the middle of the rod? Installing and lost on how to keep the two pieces from sliding out?

The idea is that the two end pieces hold it in place. And there is a support in the middle. It’s a POS, I drilled a hole in the center.
