  • In this episode we’re joined by teacher, speaker, author and recently the founder of the Muslimah’s Renaissance, Ustadha Alima Ashfaq and her husband, Hafiz Zahid Minhas.
With a passion for reviving a balanced narrative on the role of Muslim women, Ustadha Alima launched the Muslimah’s Renaissance - a movement to rediscover the spirit of the prophetic and Qur’anic narrative in respect to gender.
We discuss the idea of gender roles in our communities vs the Islamic narrative, and the affect these attitudes are having towards young Muslims in the 21st Centry.

    Hi,
It's refreshing to hear discussion on such topics. Keep at it. :)
Just a little request, can you add subtitles to your episodes? If possible, also list down the broader subjects being touched alongside their timestamp in the video description?

Salaams Rutaba! Thank you so much for your kind comment and suggestions.
If you look at the first link in the description it will take you to our show notes page for this episode. This page includes the summary of subjects being discussed in the video as well as other relevant information about the guest, links, resources etc.
Once we expand our team we will endeavour to work on subtitling and time stamping all of our videos InshaAllah.

Women are feeling more empowered because they are educating themselves and working and earning independency, without being married off where the man ends up making all the decisions!

    13:39
She has missed the other part of the hadith which says, "... Yet the houses are better for them"
‘Abd Allah (b. Mas’ud) reported the prophet (ﷺ) as saying; it is more excellent for a woman to pray in her house than in her courtyard, and more excellent for her to pray in her private chamber than in her house.
(Narrated by Abu Dawood, 570; al-Tirmidhi, 1173. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albani)
It was narrated from Umm Humayd, the wife of Abu Humayd al-Saa’idi, that she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allaah, I love to pray with you.” He said: “I know that you love to pray with me, but your praying in your room is better for you than your praying in your house, and your praying in your house is better for you than your praying in your courtyard, and your praying in your courtyard is better for you than your praying in the mosque of your people, and your praying in the mosque of your people is better for you than your praying in my mosque.” So she gave orders that a ‘mosque’ be built for her in the innermost and darkest part of her house, and she used to pray there until she met Allaah (i.e., died).
Narrated by Ahmad, 26550; classed as saheeh by Ibn Khuzaymah, 1689; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 340.

(if those are the cases for the valuable prayer, so think about how should be the other activities)
    And Allah says,
    وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ
And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance.
    Surah Al-Ahzab
    Verse 33.
