2024 OSKCS Round 2 - LO206 Sr. Heat 2

Heat 2 for LO206 Sr. at Round 2 of the 2024 OSKCS Season held on 4/28/24
Well, first time for everything right? Unfortunately this was my first in-race crash and DNF. On rain tires as the track dried, I kept pushing and pushing my speed through the esses. Eventually I had "ambition beyond adhesion" as Brundle would say, and lost the rear end. It would have been no big deal had there not been a disabled kart sitting right off the track on the outside of the corner. Myself and others had gone off there multiple times that weekend in the wet and as long as you keep moving straight in the grass you could get back to the track fine. When I went off, I hit that kart with my rear wheel and bumper which spun me around. Once stopped, there was no traction on the wet grass to drive back out and I had to DNF.
I honestly have no idea why race control left that disabled kart there... The driver went off on the warm up lap and they decided to just leave it sitting there right on the outside of a high speed and slippery corner that people had been going off of routinely all day. They could have paused the race start to recover the kart, they could have pulled it out of the firing line of that corner, etc. To me, it was a dangerous decision to leave it there. In the first few laps of the race I saw that kart sitting there and thought to myself, "dang if you go off there, you are nailing that kart!" Talking to the other drivers, I wasnt the only one who thought that. Thankfully apart from a banged up elbow, a bent axle, a broken bumper and a bruised ego, I am okay! :) That's how racing goes sometimes and this was just a Heat. The Final is what counts (though that would have to be with a badly bent axle haha)!
