- I have filmed this extremly loud Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI at the Nurburgring.In this video you can see some details of the car, a warm up and drive to the track for racing in the Tourenwagen Classics at the Nurburgring juli 2016.
This is the ex Giancarlo Fisichella 1996 ITC car.

Che capolavoro, unica, inimitabile, leggendaria, uno squalo in caccia, una formula 1 a ruote coperte!!!! La macchina dtm più bella della storia, i crucchi hanno ancora gli incubi, si sognano lo squalo rosso nel retrovisore, che li sverniciano alla prima staccata!!!!! Quel V6 che ha creato il dio Busso !!!! Il motore era montato per terra, è incredibile, la ruota è più alta di 20cm dalla testa !!! Da qualsiasi punto di vista la si ammiri è un capolavoro!!!

why do they warm it up like this rather than just keep it sitting still with a high idle or drive around the track?
this is probably to warm upp transmition and differentials without putting stress on them as it would be on the track during acceleration and deceleration, as ther might be extrem small tolerances in gearbox and diffs so thay need to warm upp slow and gently.

No, it has just the same piston rods distance and crankshaft length, basically ITC regulation dictated that the engine must had the same inter-cylinder bore distance and crankshaft length as the normal production one so they took that size from the PRV used on a Lancia and built a completely new V6 90° from the ground up
Only the engine block comes from the PRV, the rest of the components were specifically made for this car

So basically ALFA ROMEO built an AWD F1 Sedan. .. Hey Ferrari .. 🖕
Especially in the '95 and '96 DTM season, they had the telemetry support and engine tuning of an F1 of the same era, and were technically even more complicated to manage. Ferrari tried to get into Super GT during the 80s but partially failed, I believe also due to the lack of heavy interest in that field, men in Alfa Romeo were instead side by side with technicians and mechanics from Lancia (that won 6 WRC championships before) in order to succeed in ITC, DTM, ITCC, etc. They had a lot of potential and were really invested in Gt racing. You could feel their passion even when they were speaking.
