ALERT! Your "Graded" Silver & Gold Coins May Be FAKE?!?

  • In this video I talk to a bullion dealer and coin shop owner about fake graded silver coins. We show 3 different silver coins that appear to be graded and in legitimate slabs, but they are completely fake. These fake silver coins are in PCGS holders although the coins on the PCGS website do not match the coins in the slabs. Fake silver and fake gold coins are becoming a huge problem. If you cannot even trust certified and graded coins then what can you trust? One way to check to see if your graded silver or graded gold coins are real is by comparing the coins to the ones on the website. If the coin in the slab does not match the coin on the website then it is not real or at least not the grade it claims to be. Some people will swap out a lower graded coin for a higher graded coin. Always buy the coin not the holder. Below is a video about how to test gold coins:

The simple answer is that Americans don't want to pay what something is worth. The stingy and corrupt attitudes of American coin buyers is simple arrogance. It is strictly because people don't want to accept the correlation between the actual price of gold and silver to realize that some one ounce coins cannot be sold for the low prices counterfeit coins are sold for. I see numerous eBay sellers with multiple red flags offering 2023 or 2024 silver eagles delivered for less than spot silver prices.

The fact one of the alleged coins had a green tint on it, would probably indicated it contains copper, as copper oxide is the green patina you see on aged copper sheet, etc..
This could be determined with an XRF machine. A device for analysing metallic composition. Often used in gauging what region metals originated, as different locations/mining operations have different impurity content.

Another tip when verifying against the grading company photo database, this works more for ngc slabs, and helps with fake modern bullion, pay close attention to the size of the (don't know what they are actually called) prongs that hold onto the coin and the rotation of the coin (where exactly do the prongs touch the coin?).

A counterfeit coin won't kill but I watched a video where "fake" Ford brake parts were so genuine looking in every way that it took an expert Ford ASE certified mechanic to identify them. A counterfeit coin won't kill you but that may not always be the case. SCARY!

I assume the slabs themselves have a pretty standard weight, right? Wouldn't it be wise to weigh any slabbed coin (especially gold or silver) and subtract the weight of the slab to see if it weighs what it should? Maybe not a perfect test but another one worth adding to ensure you're getting what you think you are inside the slab.

I'd say early adoption AI fakes. They will only get better from here.
Best reason to only buy from reputable sources: AND get them to verify, when on site: or supply some type of certificate of verification. Every dealer needs to start this, as a final means of protecting themselves, as well. This would include high res photos, of the metals, inside the capsule.
Of course, it would increase premiums.

First clue coin is probably fake: being from China. I mean really, can anyone deny that if it's a rare/valuable item the Chinese will counterfeit it, and if it's a rare/endangered animal the Chinese will eat it? I mean, I know that sounds harsh but can you really deny the truth of the problem? No other country that I know of is nearly as famous for these things.
