I started driving when I was 12, farm kids were driving trucks and tractors at eight, they would drive from field to field on the road, that's fine. Driving an 18 wheeler in a parking lot is a lot different than driving one out in the world. I'm not taking anything away from kid he's great, but he needs to grow another foot before it's safe for him to drive an 18 wheeler on public roads.
Luke talks about all this stuff like a grown ass man who's been trucking for years!! Hell yes!! Kids like him give me hope for our future!!

It pays to have a dad that's there for you. He's given his kid a future way before he needs it. It's amazing how much truck knowledge he has at 14. He will definitely go far in the industry.

You may want to look deeper into the actual future of over the road trucking..... Right now in America, there is no future for truckers. Thats why we have dozens if not hundreds of ships just chilling in a bay on one of the US coasts..... The kid is for sure better then most of the current drivers out there. But you cant say he'll go far in this industry when we dont even know wtf is going on with the industry.

This. My dad let me drive our mustang and I learned to drive stick on it, and he didnât get mad when I messed up. Iâm now 13 and can drive stick pretty proficiently, not nearly as good as this kid can drive this truck, though!

@Biker Rat Iâm not sure who you drive for or what kind of money you make. Life isnât about becoming a millionaire. Todays world would never survive without truck drivers, especially America. Going to college isnât for everyone. Many go and get some bullshit degree for 250k or more. Then they ended up getting a job that doesnât require that degree. Everything you get in life depends on what you put into it. If you work for a half ass trucking company and make crap money thatâs your fault. If you want good money you have to find it. itâs not going to find you. Sometimes that involves going the extra mile. Are you a class A driver or class B ? It makes a difference. So many are making much less then they could because they are âcomfortableâ with where they are. When was the last time you got something or did something that had a great result without being comfortable and working hard for it? Maybe you live in a state that doesnât have good paying truck driving jobs. If thatâs the case and you still wanna be a truck driver, maybe you could research for a company that is looking for great truck drivers. Are you a Great truck driver, if not what are you weaknesses and how could you get better? Move from a class B to a class A. Maybe get your hazmat license so you can haul fuel, oil , and others alike. I know those

Reminds me a lot of my son at that age. He learned how to back trailers up and down a hill driveway with a standard truck and a 4 wheeler with bad brakes. I would trust his driving ANYDAY!!! This is absolutely incredible! A kid at 14 years old that can drive a 18 speed semi! That takes a lot of dedication to learn and then to apply the skills learned! He certainly has learned a lot from his father as well and credit goes out to his dad for teaching him and to Luke for taking the time to learn all thatâs involved etc! Luke has such a great attitude toward the industry as a whole and thatâs something that takes time to acquire.

Met a young man just like him. Just turned 12 years old 3 weeks ago. He owns his own tracked skid steer and works grading with his dad and step brother. . Runs chainsaws and cuts trees down and up into pieces. Works cattle in southwest Florida. Really impressive and very respectful like Luke. Great job Luke
Yeah I spent my last few summers at a quarry working with a kid who started at 14. One of the coolest guys I've worked with, picks up anything and takes it seriously. I wish I had half his discipline at his age, he's gonna go places for sure!
and to think I wasted my preteen /early teen years making memories with family members and spending summers playing with friends. Wish I could have been doing hard labor right out of kindergarden and not have anything else in my life other than work.
The kid isnât old enough to get his license and is a better driver than people who have been driving for years. He knows what heâs capable of and his dad obviously has complete confidence in his abilities.

Great to see Luke so involved and excited. I started loading trucks at my old man's grain elevator when I was 14, I made $5 a truck & thought I was rich! It was 50 years ago & these truckers were true outlaws, I would fill the trucks clear full, tarp them, run them around the block a few times, pull the tarp & top them off & tarp them again. They would dodge the scales & it was like the Wild West. Thanks for stirring some good old memories!

This kid could teach me a thing or two and I've been driving a truck for 10 years. My last 2 companies drive automatic so I don't get to drive manuals much anymore but he floats better than I ever could. I hope DOT is much better when he gets his CDL.
Iâm a software engineer and private pilot and Iâm amazed at this young manâs skills. He has a bright future ahead of him. Heâll be so much more prepared for life ahead than most college graduates I know. Keep up the awesome job in parenting him; itâs obvious youâre doing everything right.

This dude reminds me of my little brother, crazy about trucks too for as long as he's been alive. Could drive one better than most pros before he could even properly reach the pedals or look over the dash. If you ever couldn't find him odds were he'd found a worksite of some kind and somehow convinced the workers there to let him drive something heavy around.
Obviously went into the trucking world as soon as he turned 18 and has been loving it, little bro was literally born for heavy machinery and the road.

This reminds me of my early motocross days seeing a 13YO racer practice. Jumping a 125 and while in the air, pulling the clutch, revving, downshifting, tapping the rear brake and crossing up to setup for the corner - all in a matter of 2 seconds. It inspired me to repeat that. If Luke demonstrated how easy it is to drive this rig, he's likely capable of ALOT of things that people will admire and try to emulate

My dad had me steering his while he slept with foot on throttle age 11, was the best of times!!! Early 70's driving desert in California. How I first learned. Thanks brought back good memories. My dad just passed away RIP.

This young man was taught the proper way, by his dad who obviously is a real trucker. This is how my father taught me. Any driver who doesn't know how to float a gear or drive with out the constant use of the clutch, was not taught properly, and all the truck wrecks today only proves my point.
I drove for 35 years, and the only time my clutch was used was stopping and taking off, this is alot of the reason I'm sure that alot of companies are going to automatic transmissions. My opinion of this kids father is that he is one great driver and is passing his knowledge on to his sons, just as my father did me. Alot of guys that are so impressed with this video, is probably because you were students of a sub standard truck driving school. I wouldn't agree with your statement. In Georgia at least, you have to be taught how to drive using the clutch, I was told you would be failed on your test if you floated gears during the exam.
I admit they could have been lying to us about that, but that is the statement they gave us when I was in CDL class at Atlanta Technical College.
We where told once we left the class we could learn how to float gears all we wanted, but that they would not teach us.

California's the same on testing, if you don't use the clutch, you will get failed.
I think all states are the same on testing. I was saying this young man was taught right, not like some. Hell I've met guys that couldn't float a gear to save their ass, and they were years in to driving,, not totally green.

ok, I understand you now, but in my opinion for testing reasons the proper way to teach (and I am no driving instructor) would be to teach in the manner in which you will be graded.
The reason I say that is because I suck at test taking, I get flustered in those types of situations, if I learned to float gears then during the testing I would probably accidently fall back on what I know best, which would cause me to fail.
I failed my CDL maneuvers test the first time because I was so nervous I couldn't do a strait back in a truck I wasn't familiar with.
The steering wheel was off by like 5 degrees so when I straitened the steering wheel tires where actually off and instead of driving the truck, I was holding the wheel, "fail, see you next time"
I understand everyone else wouldn't make that kind of mistake, but I can only go off my personal experience as to what happens when you fall back on what you know, instead of what is being tested.

Brother don't ever let the first fail get you down, many times someone fails and they give up. Please don't let this happen to you. You have to have your heart in it and believe that you really want to do this. And don't ever let some dmv tester get you down. I think you really want to do this, and I encourage you to see it through, once you're out there on the road there's nothing else like it, the rest will come to you later with experience. I wouldn't trade my career in trucking for anything else. Just always remember that as you go you'll learn something new everyday. I hope you'll pursue trucking, it's a great career, I've seen most of the country through a windshield and I did most of it as an owner/ operator making good money. I'm retired now but the trucking industry needs good drivers and I believe you're going to be one of the best, if you stick with it. Good luck to you and all your endeavors. Just get some experience and there's nothing you can't accomplish, hell you might decide to go owner/ operator some day, and you'll be glad you got into the business. I'm rooting for you brother.
@@truckerray9634 that isn't what got me, the school got me, I was completely screwed over by the school.
we went for my retest and the DMV said they had too many and made me reschedule, earliest retest I could get was like 3 weeks away and we where already at the end of our term with a new head instructor who refused to help me go for my retest, that is what messed me up.
