    Minor correction: the manufacturer says the enclouse is aluminum alloy, not stainless steel.

    The problems that I see that weren't addressed.
    This looks like the reviewer was sent the item for free which can mean a biased review
    You're 1 dip switch flick away from deleting all your data.
    The trays don't lock in so they could fall out if you pick it with the door facing down.
    No handle
    Plastic trays do not assist with heat dissipation
    Most people including myself will be plugging HDs with data on, not empty drives. I am always weary about plugging a HD with data into an unknown device. You never know what it is going to do. I have had a NAS device in the past that just formatted drives when you insert them, or when you had to share a folder in order to see your data but unlike windows when you remove the share it also deletes the data. How wonderful that you are supposed to know this and why you should be very careful when plugging in a HD with data into an unknown device. I would have liked to hear this issue reviewed. I go for simple now, I have a primary and backup HD that I backup manually. I have never lost any data doing it that way. All I need is a place to put the backup HDs that isn't going to be too smart and delete my data.

    Would love to see something like this that's a quarter of the size and restricted to eight 7mm SSDs only, with high bandwidth connectivity.

      I like how he states the slow speed was due to using a slow usb port, why would you do that? Or was that an excuse? As he was already plugged into a usb 3 port. Most of the stuff I have played with is around 80 mbps on hdd and 150 mbps on SSD , pc or Mac mini i7 using usb3 . This was just a paid advertisement as most are on you tube, but wait order know and we will throw in a set of steak knifes , don’t forget , subscribe and like this video. The shit has infiltrated you tube, it’s now just a place to market products and merch , don’t forget to buy my shirts, caps, sunglasses and mouse pads

    Thanks for your review. I find that enclosures that follow this design with a hollow metal shell with plastic internals produces a lot of echo from noisy drives. If the docking trays have no rubber or something else to act as vibration compensation, you will have a really loud enclosure.

    I have had TWO data issues with the PS500RC3 5-bay drive, in two years. I'd love to be able to load the RAID tool for Mac, but the program they offer immediately crashes with an error and is not launchable. I cannot recommend any Yottamaster product for any Mac user until the company can guarantee proper tools that will work with the machines we are using them with.

    if you insert a drive while other drives are in the enclosure does that disrupt/disconnect them?

    • @ChrisLoh
      @ChrisLoh  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Depends on the RAID configuration you have setup or if you have them setup as independent drives.

  • @buriedbits6027

    It’s definitely a nice enclosure. I own a non-raid version. I don’t care about performance. It’s fast enough for me
    Two problems though. If I have 4 3.5 mechanical drives it doesn’t behave. I don’t think it’s a power issue but I am going to buy all new drives as it could be the drives.
    The main issue though is it starts to vibrate for no reason. To resolve I need to touch or wiggle the drive bay. The drive trays are plastic with no fasteners. I also own an OWC 4 bay and the quality is way superior but for budget the Yottamaster is good enough.

    • @NoBodysGamer
      @NoBodysGamer Před 8 měsíci +4

      its garbage avoid, all their RAID enclosures use JMB393 and JMB394 SATA port multiplayers from 2008, these are SATA gen 2, the MAXIMUM speed you'll get even in RAID0 is about 260-270Mb/s

  • @InJJWeTrust0121
    @InJJWeTrust0121 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Why did you plug that into a slow usb port to show the speeds... it would have been great to see the performance on a proper usb 3.1 port... what a waste of time.

    • @busarob1969
      @busarob1969 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Cause it was deliberate, saying it was on a slow port excuses the slow speed he had on usb3. This was basically a paid sponsored advertisement !

    • @jamegumb7298
      @jamegumb7298 Před měsícem

      Don't.
      If you must use HDD over SSD, get a 5 Gbit 7200 rpm one no multiplier. I know Xbox won't play nice with those. SeaGate FireCuda game drive will work.

    I have this enclosure waiting for me in Amazon locker. I think I'll leave there until they take it back and issue a refund. I'll go the cheaper route and just by a huge external hd.

    • @ChrisLoh
      @ChrisLoh  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It should be a series of white switches that you can flip in order to setup different kinds of raids. Not exactly a button.

      @ChrisLoh  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Looks like they updated and added the discount by default to the Amazon price on the site itself so it's no longer exclusive or need to use the codes. I'll check back to see if there are new promotions/codes that you can use to stack.

    This has to be the worst RAID setup I have seen for consumers. DIP switches in the 2020s etc. Maybe the program is better. But external switches with zero security on them is shocking.
