Actually happened to me. Overnight journey from Port Elizabeth to Pretoria. Early in the morning the train stopped while people tryed to get a JCB across the line. Eventually a passenger on the train who was a JCB driver walked it off, using the back hoe and bucket.
Jcb is not funny if train hit jcb that could be sevior damage train also particularly train front area and engine parts...jcb front and back have two different type heavy metal buckets with hydraulic power

The loco pilot did the right thing by stopping it well ahead safely as it was not easy for the wheels of the JCB to come off the track. Also, a precious life of the JCB driver would have been lost.
