  • Edna McGriff on Arthur Shimkin's Favorite label, a companion label to Bell--maybe a sublabel. Very nicely done, though of course it's far more "pop" than the Chords original.

Ms. McGriff was a well-known artist for good rason. Not bad at all!

It's very good, and I'm a bit surprised that someone as well-known as Edna would work for Bell/Favorite. Then again, maybe race was a factor. And she was certainly easy on the eyes!

Not as "gritty" as The Chords' original recording.....but not as "sappy" as The Crew Cuts' hit version, either.
    A VERY pleasant compromise!

      At least Edna didn't go "SH-BOOM, SH-BOOM! YA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA........" 🙄

The Chords' rendition was a "gin rickey"; The Crew Cuts' version was a "vanilla milkshake". 😉

@@fromthesidelines Stan Freberg has a field day with those triplets--especially the quarter-note variety, which he obviously despised! My jazz-musician father had an aversion to repeating triplet figures, too. Once, he turned off "Perry Mason" for that very reason (the title theme).
