    Great content Jacob. I watched the video twice. The six steps are:
    1. Learn the basics of copywriting.
    2. Practice with one copywriting deliverable.
    3. Pitch to real clients.
    4. Pitch to clients that look similar to the ones you worked before.
    5. Begin building a recurrent channel.
    6. Contineously improve your sales and copywriting abilities.

    This is probably one of the simplest yet well-spoken videos I’ve seen on this topic. There are A LOT of competent, intelligent people out there who could be killing it as a freelance writer, but are weighed down by doubt and discouragement. As you said: pitching is key.

    Thank you, Jacob! I just have one question, though. How is this field so in demand if it's so easy to learn and it's very lucrative? Does it come down to each individual's ability to write great copy, or is more to do with networking and having a decent ability with copy? I've been learning web development, but recently learned about copywriting and it feels like I align with it more than development.

    Hey Jacob,
    This is a great thank you for your sharing this topic.
    Do you think the copywriters need to master some design skills like graphic design or UI/UX design? Otherwise, how to deliver ”Copy Words” only to clients without layout or some graphic design in landing pages or sales pages?

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  Před 2 lety +4

      Hey Jake, you don't need graphic or UX skills to write and deliver copywriting to clients.
      First of all, you can simply deliver copy via a Google Doc with some light formatting to help show how the copy is supposed to show on the page. If you don't know how it should show up, just look at what the client currently has, what a competitor has, or what any random published page is using, and copy that. You will develop more of a feel for this over time.
      That said, you can go one step further in both your pitches and your initial copy delivery by using a tool like - goedit.me/ - to show your copy visually on the current site or a competitor site.
      Early in my career, I would do something similar called "wireframing" in this lightweight photoshop-like tool - www.getpaint.net/download.html - and it was always well received, but that's a bit harder than just live-editing on top of an existing site's layout.
      Long term, you want to develop an understanding of UX, because copywriting is a part of UX, but you don't need to know UX or graphic design to write and deliver copy right now.

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  Před 2 lety +2

      Early in my career, I used Craigslist, writing job boards, and looking up “write for us” pages a ton.
      I use Twitter DMs a lot now.
      If you’re brand new, pursue your warm network. Let people know you’re helping businesses create more focused messaging.
      If you have a year or more experience, I think email and LinkedIn are the best places to pitch at scale.
      Twitter is basically remote pseudo-networking so it works really well for getting really great fit projects here and there, but it doesn’t support the volume of pitches you need to get through in your first few years of freelancing.

So I am stuck in a loop where I have to pick a Niche to start writing for but I just can't pick one. As soon as I pick one I feel like its not the one. I am looking forward to picking Real Estate as my niche that I can write for, since I am very much interested in it.
    But my main question is Do I need to have 100% knowledge on how Real Estate operates or how it works, or can I start with the knowledge I have. And question applies for all niches, what if I wanna choose another niche, Do I have to know every single info about the product and how the company works or can I just start with what I know?
    That is what is holding me back, Lack of info about a product/service, I end up thinking I won't work out because I know very little. So I come to you to seek help. Please help me.
