I have the V7...when I got it, I immediately fell in love with it over the 58.
Me to. Fantastic mic.
Would it be good for big stages
@@elroyjackson5384 sure it would. Many big names use them every night.
I got the V7 yesterday and used it on my last band rehearsal. Love the microphone. Recommended.... ❤️
I absolutely love my V7, especially for live music. It has become my go-to for singing, and if I'm podcasting from an untreated room, it will be the one I go for first.
This microphone is my go to. I own the wireless capsule that I use when I lead worship- I’m on staff at a church. Great value microphone!
I really like the sE V7. I find the Shure Mics sometimes very boring. I know the sm58 is sturdy and it does sound very good but there are better mics out there and the se V7 it's great and different. Great video as always.
Does the se v7 require phantom power?
Nope!
@@debbiepatton6319Dynamic microphones generally don't use phantom power, unless there's an active preamp built in.
Thank You a lot for a review!
I love this mic for all uses.. my voice just seems to work best for me on tests with the SE V7
just bought the Roland VT-4 in a bundle with the sE V7... And I LOVE IT!!!!
e835 is a little more hissy/nasally than the V7 imo.
Yah E835 produce more hissss sound
We use a V7 to tame my wife's sibilance while voice acting. (We try to use condensers for the job, but sometimes noisy neighbors create a need for dynamics!) I'm personally a big fan of the Sennheiser e935, but we used an old AKG D880 for many years. (That thing probably recorded about 80% of our cartoon back catalogue!)
Between the sE V7 and the E835, I would choose the sE V7. The sound of the E835 to my ears is really piercing.
SM58 is very smooth and easy on my ears.
I just got the v7 and Holy crap the warmth and body of it
Great review, caught a sub. Really have to grab one of these when i see em on sale. Got a D5, pair of e935, pair of 58s, pair of P5s etc so i REALLY dont need one but like you said, gotta catch em all XD
I’ll be honest, I bought the e835 and e945 and I was not a fan of them at all, I’ll be purchasing a few of these to replace those because this review showed me exactly what I liked about the v7 last time I used one. Thank you!
Yes! Honestly never been a huge fan of the sm58. I have a few of these, and the wireless capsules too.
In the last 4 years or so, I've been seeing the sEV7 everywhere in concert performances. I don't have one, but I have the HB52, designed for harmonica, and it is an awesome sounding mic. Prolly gonna get one, and then, do a standoff with my Shure beta58A and Audix m5.
Great review! Like the high quality and charisma of the host! Currently getting ready to dive into podcasting world and torn apart between the zoom zdm1 and sE v7. Untreated room space around so what would you recommend - zoom or sE? And if sE, is it v7 or v3? Which one could handle the plosives and other noises better? Thanks a ton indeed for any ideas! By the way, what set up you would recommend - i mean, a mic and the pre amp like sE dm1 for instance and aidio interface - which would be enough in terms of gain in mid priced range?
Thanks again, folks!
Sounds nice for vocals/podcast!
What a discovery for me.
se v7 sounds terrific. And build quality is also top notch.
I can't stop being surprised that in every comparison against other mics v7 sounds more favorable.
Now my purchase of sm58 is under threat 😄
I had wanted to buy it before I watched this video and learned about such a fantastic mis as v7
Would you recommend this for a live streamer?
As an emcee, I like the e835s because it has a switch. It's also just as clear/bright as the Beta 58a. The e845s is also a great option, if you want super-cardioid.
What does the e mean before the numbers and what does the s mean after the numbers?
@@elroyjackson5384 you’ll have to ask sanitizer about the E. As far as I know, the S stands for “switch”. That’s the only reason why I prefer this mic over the.Shure Beta 58a - the switch.
@@elroyjackson5384 Evolution series
For singing, I guess this one can cut through more easily. But, for speaking at a desk, I definitely prefer the XM8500 !
It's too bright, almost aggressive.
Great video ;)
Is the SE V7 recommended for long term narrations in an untreated room?
Just bought EW-D set. Help! Should I get my ‘go to’ 935 capsule or one that I’ve never heard before??
I just bought V7 for 40 euro from a guy since I saw it is 98e new here and at that price thought it must be good. It is really good. Might buy another one when in need for another mic.
Its the protection from POPS that I'm looking for! Am returning a Shure Beta 58A I bought two weeks ago, and have ordered an Audio Technica AE6100 because of the claim of great pop protection. Can't wait to see how that works out...!
How did it work out?
I’m a complete noob and was looking for a good mic for recording singing as well as metal scream/growl vocals. Out of the ones in my price range, I really like this one, so I’ve ordered the V7 as my first mic. Hope I like it as much when I use it as I did here. Thanks for the review!
Cheers!
Hope you find a lot of enjoyment from it!!
So, what did you find?
The se V7 sounds amazing and is used by famous singers for a reason!!! AND….it’s only $99!!!
SE V7 slight upper mids push- I love that.
Senni is near capacitor mic quality, great for full frequency voices but I need the SE push!
Metal vocalist here. Can’t wait to try the V7 with screams. I loved the look of it and the specs sounded great. I also brought it for live performances later on, I’ll come back one day and update you on how it went.
Hey! I’m a pretty much metal singer and looking for a new mic. Any updates?? 😄
@@Valeria__2604 oh my, it’s pretty great. Really nice how little it picks up the background noise. And just moving a few inches away it makes a big difference. So proximity control is great.
@@Valeria__2604 how long have you been into vocals?
@@NathanWorstell thank you!! Sounds promising. I have Shure’s SM48 and sometimes it feels like I’m straining my vocals in order to get anything out, my buddy has an SM58, i tried it and it picks up more of my vocal, little background noises, but somehow i didn’t like it. I’ll try to see if i can try out V7 at the music store… I think i might actually get it
@@Valeria__2604 if you ask me, the V7 is like an upgrade from SM58. And it’s cheaper, looks better, and is a lot warmer and clear.
Super duper.. I Like it but CZcams made everything sound so similar. I might have to buy the Billy Gibbons version and try one for myself
Hello Bud,
Can u please tell me V7 or AkD 5 which one is better ? Please advise it’s for female singer At the church. Thkxx
does the Mic compatible with female xlr to male mono jack cable?
I'm team SM58 all day!
I use SM58 mics for home podcast recordings. The V7 sounds more airy than the SM58.
Btw, my voiceover mic is an old Groove Tube GT55 Large Diaphragm Cardioid Class-A FET Condenser.
How does the v7 handle plosives and extremely loud vocals compared to the 835
I'm looking for a dynamic mic that doesn't thin out the lower parts of my voice range. It seems that the mics in this video that will serve this purpose are the v7 and the AKG d5. My ear test on this video says that the v7 retains the low end a little more tightly than the d5 (d5 sounds a little boomier to me), but I'm concerned about the low-end "roll off" that is mentioned. And the charted frequency response shows a significantly different engineering of the lows when comparing the v7 and the d5. Can anyone let me know if the v7 reproduces the lower parts of an adult male voice accurately?
how do you think it compares with the D5?
SM58 still works. The high-end boost gets old for me. I with there were more flat mics. (not that the SM58 is particularly flat, but it doesn't sound as hyped in the high-end as the others).
It's always better to make a comparison with microphones that has the same pick-up pattern. The benchmark dynamic super/hyper (not that much difference) is the beta58 or beta57. For sennheiser lovers the e845, e945 or MD445.
That being said, I also learned something from your video, the ve7 has exceptional low handling noise
I don't know if it may be how the sound is coming through CZcams but the XM1800S doesn't sound that bad here at all. Certainly not as good as any of the others but it didn't sound horrible to me by any means. A little EQ-ing and one could get a very usable sound. And yes, I know. We all have our preferences. I get it. Just saying lol (Oh, and I like the XM 8500. My only real gripe with it is that it's tiny). The sEV7 is still king of these mics, though. Good stuff as always, bud.
Superb video bro, recently bought the V7 BFG edition and its fantastic, I didn't expect to see a shoot out with all your industry standard mics, I was laughing because I myself have all of those including the Behringers.
I agree on every point you made, Shure is the benchmark however there are plenty of options in the same price range.
The fact is they're all amazing and the key is to find what works best for you and the sound you're looking for.
Sublime video again man.
Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words!!
Which is best? Sm58 vs se v7 vs e835
Does the v7 have a pop filter?
The sm58 like the sm7b has a rumbling static sound imo
Love my SE V7. Of course I love my Sennheiser 935/945 mics also. I hardly ever use my Shure SM58s anymore.
I run an audio/lighting production business and enjoy having a variety of vocal mics, including SM58s, 835, 840, 935, 945, V7. All quality and very usable, but the V7 has become my favorite. It just sounds really nice on every vocal I've run through it.
pls help me I cannot choose between v7 and e835. which is better? I only have money to buy one. I appreciate the help
@@ilikesandwich2507 - Between those two mics, SE V7, hands down.
I'm pulling my hair out between the 935 and the sev7 I have a female voice and it's not as strong as others but has more power when belting. Don't wanna Iver power it but want something clear with very little feedback. Heard the 945 has bad feedback and seen on youtube tests etc. Which one do you suggest as a wireless mic for performing at clubs and festivals so good enough for loud stages
Brother.. which one u like better V7 or AKG D5. Please advise it’s for church singing.
I would like a link to the spongey things thanks
liked the music @ 7:38 is there a full version ?
Hi, on the video you mentioned there are different colors for the internal pop filter, would you happen to know where to find them? I would like to buy one but can’t find anything online :(
maybe a bit late, but in the box there is a black one included
The funny thing is I thought you were trying to say this V7 mic was a bad mic. Lol I was thinking it sounds the best to my hear compared to the others. Then I realized you weren’t saying it’s bad. So yeah, for me, I feel the V7 sounded the best over all those other ones. I’m kinda sad it sounded better than my SM58 😢 😂
When going from the V7 to the 58, the 58 sounds like someone put a ton of bad EQ curves on a V7. The difference even becomes more apparent after putting them thru EQs.
A lot of the mics presented in this video sound (and are) nice, but based on the sounds (in your video), I lean towards the sE V7. If I'm not using my ears, I also find it the most attractive. It features small features that make you wonder why other mics with the same form factor don't do that (such as the anti-roll staggered rim). At the end of the day, I supposed it, as always, comes down to one's ever-shifting preference.
I've never cared for the SM57 or the SM58. So I'm really happy to say, this one sounds amazing. For the same price, and that beautiful vintage green color option, I think I've found my 58's replacement.
Also, great idea on the female vocal test- I have a naturally higher voice, definitely not as low as yours, so hearing that difference was huge.
Thanks mate! Cheers.
There is a reason The Warning switched from SM58s to sE V7s for their down stage performers, Dany and Ale (and sometimes Pau). Those ladies punch through the mix a lot better with the V7. Watch this: czcams.com/video/H1vbioHf9zo/video.htmlsi=rgxxBD13ZbGz6oKG or this: czcams.com/video/oqXcNOVmcjc/video.htmlsi=gRb9OGaSU702SydO (The whole show of 22 songs is awesome.)
Get boss, how do you feel about the lewitt mtp 550 DM? I can't find a solid review on it. Thank you for your time
Good question!
I'll see if I can get my hands on it
Weird that @podcastage doesn't have a review on it...
@@DarkCornerStudios hey bossman! thanks for teply.. he does the 250, and he does a great job as you do too. im getting the 550DMs , i have ths sm48 and went with lewitt instead of the sm58... gloria gaynor used it at namm a few years back, sounds great, but she sounds great... we know where that conversation goes. thanks again
I like the SM 58. It sounds smoother and more balanced.
I am a Armature Radio Operator and have used the the Shure SM48 and it was ok but didn't have the audio quality that I wanted. Purchased a Shure 565SD, If it was good enough for Freddy Mercury it's good enough for me! and instantly started to get great audio reports and it looks good on the boom. I just purchased a sE V7 BFG the Billy Gibbons version and am anxious for it to arrive in the mail and see how the audio quality of my old Yaesu FT-2000 compares to the other 2 Shure mics.
The big problem of microphones "better" then SM58, the lack of legendary industry standard vibes😉
Yawn. "Industry Standard Vibes = lemming behavior. The SM58 is a great mic on some voices. I've used 58s a lot, but the V7 just punches through a mix better for some people. Some vocalists sound muffled and boomy on the 58, but articulate and present on the V7. As for me, I like hearing lyrics. USE the palette...
SE makes nice mics.
Great youtube channel! Definitely need more subs. I'll start with one.
Cheers and thanks for the kind words!!
e835 sounded thin and not good. I didn't expect that...
8500 sounds really good. Especially for the price.
Honestly the SM58 - which is probably one of the mics most will compare it with - is so much easier on the ears.
The V7 has a weird harshness to it, which is great for clarity, but fatiguing over time imo.
I don't know... I have e835 personally, but I seldom use... I use a Chinese knock-off version of the e835 for practice... On stage for wedding night or party night, my friends seem to have beta58 up there all the times, so I have to use that when I sing... I never heard SE V7 until today from this CZcams... I think it does not matter which mic... they are all sound good...
In live situations the Sennheiser e835 is a useful mic but it has obvious deficiencies compared the other mics on this test apart from the berry obv. The V7 and D5 both sounded excellent as alternatives to the SM58. I thought the V7 was closest sounding to the D5 although the frequency plot seemed to tell a different story. Although I would still take the SM58 in most vocal situations I am tempted by the V7, I think it will be great for some vocalists and would take it over a D5 simply because I dislike the D5 visually.
Yes. Next question.
The e835 (one of my least favorites) and V7 sound very close, almost identical. The D5 is a hair smoother and the V7 a bit more tin on the top end. There wasn't enough time on the SM58 but obviously SM58 was smoother and the V7 more tin on the top. You're right: buy which one you like. But with the V7 and D5 topping $100 you might ask if the extra few bucks is better than the venerable SM58. (Of course, I am basing this on spoken word. The V7 might do a better job of cutting through the mix for vocals.)
hum.. the Shure SM58 and sE V7 is for me at the same Lvl to be honest :D
This mic was on my list to, as I searched for a XLR mic. But I chose the SM58 because of the Off Axis Rejection. Its better on this mic :D
I don't want that my mates hear my keyboard or my mouse xD
But as you say: the sE V7 is a rly good mic :D and looks a little bit better as the SM58 to be honest XD
V7 the best for live and recording.
I prefer the sE V7x ("instrument mic")... just gotta be extra careful with those plosives.
why e835 and not e845 ?
I preferred the SM58 and the D5.
Akg D5 stiil the best for me.
I likenhow the SE V7 doesn't have that 400Hz buildup like the Shure.
I use a uphoria um2 . Does any of these sm58 & se v7 need preamp if i podcast with any these mics?
Heil sound PR35 and Beyerdynamic TG V70
I've loved the 58 for years, but the sE V7 seems to work far better on some voices. It has less-pronounced proximity effect, and the bass rolls off at a higher frequency than the bass on the 58 rolls off. Listen to Dany Villarreal of the up-and-coming rock band, The Warning. She sounds great on the V7, at their live Teatro Metropolitan show in 2022, but if you go back to their 2018 *Queen of the Murder Scene* live show at Lunario, recorded with an SM58, her vocals are muddy and buried in the mix. At least some of that is microphone, and some may be lack of compression, but their live shows recorded with the V7 capsule are far more intelligible. The vocal punches through a LOT better.
The differences among these mics are pretty subtle, until you listen for a while. In the end, it comes down to which one works for the individual performer or speaker. A case can be made for having at least a couple of each.
Well, in that environment all would work. How well does your vocal stand out 4 feet from a drumkit? And the plosives seem very bad with this mic so bad that you didn´t even care to do the test! We all hear them right. Yeah, for sure we do. How does the comparison in plosives work out. Good for you you got a free mic. This test was not telling very much other than they all sound doable in a studio.
I have one, and also the V3. Compared to the sE V3, the V7, to my ears, is dull to the point of sounding hollow. Only with enough bass and treble boost does it seem to have any life at all. My advice: Save $30 and get a V3.
SE V7X for instruments
Shure 58 being around 4ever and they still out sales all other mics on the planet and let's not forget nu technology shure 58 still used original components
The V7 has more handling noise than the SM58. If you perform live and hold the mic, It’s noisier in my experience.
And for spoken word ... ?
short answer yes , for the price its the best, its far superior to the sm58.
Sennheiser e835, but the se v7 is atop the rest
V7.
super duper duper duped cardioid
I really couldn’t tell any differences. Or negligible…Lol.
Heil PR35
Xm1800s sounds the best out of comparison
Oh no. I do not like it on a female voice. That wasn't good.
Yeah...cant win them all...in fact there have been several mics that I wasn't a fan of...interesting
@Dark Corner Studios Keep in mind that I have seen your other videos with your partner. Her voice is delightful. That microphone didn’t work for her.
So which one would you recommend for a female voice please
e835 is an awful sounding mic, especially on voices with a lot of natural upper midrange.
Is that a TALK mic? What about singing? Useless review.
You do realize mics can be used for multiple things right?
Also...singing isn't far off from talking.
This was an odd comment
Se V7 is amazing 🔝
