- Choosing the right guitar strings as a beginner guitarist can be extremely intimidating. What seems like a simple task is overcomplicated by literally hundreds of options.
Can electric guitar strings work on an acoustic? Can acoustic strings work on an electric? What's the difference between different types of strings? Is there a brand that's best? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY STRING SIZES?!
Hopefully after watching this video, you'll no longer have to worry about these things and you can buy new strings for your guitar with confidence!
Thanks for watching :)

I like my girls like I like my guitar strings: Magnetic and Made of Solid Steel
And they like their men like their strings....thick and durable 😁
Hey man I’ll take what I can get
Magnetic ongabonga steely cave lady....me like
i tried out your theory. I ended up with sore fingers and chlamydia 🤣
Oh I've just been using shoe strings. Thanks for the advice.
common mistake
Yeah, but you always have to re-tie them!
Idiot, they have like no magnetism.
Unless you're using them for acoustic, in which case I apologise.
Ow man .. I was using fishing lines .. this video was helpful
That's what those things on the front of the guitar are!
you don't even need this video
I audible gasped when I saw the notification for this video what is wrong with my life this was the most exciting thing in my day so far
guitar strings are exhilarating
You are exhilarating
@@Antonio1950 thanks mario
You're very welcome, cutie
Just discovered your channel! I've been playing for almost 12 years now, so a lot of your videos cover familiar topics, but I watch anyway for your comedic delivery!
I just slap Slinkies on everything and call it a day
sums up the video
I already know all this because I've been playing for years but this is a good explanation for people new to guitar. I would have also added that you should never put steel strings on a nylon string guitar and an explanation why.
snap crackle pop
A musician told me to use Elixirs. I've trusted that advice ever since. Plot twist, he was a drummer though.
They’re painful in different ways, imo. Those thin songs dig in more. But ultimately once you’re actually practicing as much as you should your fingers get strong and your skin thick and actually I mean it kinda never stops hurting but it’s different, it’s okay pain, it just means you’re playing a lot.
I remember when you used to have 10k congrats on nearly 180k!! I love your content, you always make my day even while teaching me new things haha
*me watching this after not having changed my strings for about 2 years*
**interestinggg**
2 videos in and I fucking love this guy
I use a few different types of strings. My 2 lowest strings are Dr bluegrass, and the middle 2 are a but lighter and the last light to are very thin and have the coating. Customizing each string to get the sound I desire or feel of play.
I love this guy
The way you edit makes me laugh in a good way
Elixirs are a good choice for durability and playability, however, they don’t sound good. The Tony Rice by Martin are the best sounding strings imho. Sounds so warm and full.
Your humor is great. Love it
the god damn aspect ratio lol
like vhs home movie
I like how this channel makes me feel like the one thumbs down 👎is from RedlightBlue himself.
Dude your videos are so good I’m lowkey jealous
Chesss, I missed you man
Talking about pain and gauges, my friend who I always call a wuss, plays extra slinkies (which are 8-38 I believe?) And I started playing on 12-60 after 2 years of playing, I tune in Drop B flat (cuz of a lot of jazz) and he tunes in F standard cuz he plays Vektor (High F not the Low F standard) . There's 3 types of guitar players when talking about strings; Djent, Weird Tunings or just High Tunings and the last of them: Wtf is a gauge?
Cocaines a hell of a drug
@@BerticusBersht indeed
Thank that will help me a lot when a gonna go buy new strings
I love how your glansing at the corner looking at a script XD
This fucking guy, you're the man I will always love these videos :)
i agree !
🤔 that was the ending. Interesting strategy
Do you have to wipe or clean your strings? I never have, but I read you’re supposed to. But I don’t want to. Unless I should.
Wiping them with a lint free cloth after playing does make them last a bit longer, because we're all sweating acid that eats strings
@@MildExplosion Fine, I’ll do it. Thx!
Elixer 10s. My go to strings
We miss you ❤
We need a new video ❤
I always decide what accessories (strings, amp/gear etc) I'm going to get before going to a store. Translation: lots n lots of research. The reason: if you ask 100 guitarists about anything guitar related, you may get 100 opinions!
longview? instant like!
I was hoping you'd explain the difference between the different types of *web* coatings, I never got a straight answer on what does what
The sweatier you are, the thicker you want your strings coated.
The end
@@voiceofunsanity Ok, but what coating is thicker?
ye
ah yes my favorite bassist has uploaded
We need a part 2 of “What all guitarists think but won’t admit”!
“Pain is gud”
-yes
No it’s true cuz once you get the feeling of, say.. 10/10 painful strings , the 1/10 feels like butterfly wings.
Ahh I now know why fishing lines aren't a good idea.. THANKS MAN✨
I Took the thicc strigs advice way too serious, I play bass
Pain is good 👍
Why is this on 4:3 and not in 16:9?
We are not in 2005 myspace anymore.
PAIN IS GOOOD
Electric strings are magnetic whaaat? Pls do a whole video explaining electric guitars because idk what amps and preamps and pedals etc are, but it all sounds like shiny stuff to spend money on if I knew what it was
Copper is actually a great conductor for electricity
dude come back
You can change these?? :|
Excellent aspect ratio 👍
"But i say the pain is GOOD"
Did you know that there is also a classical guitar that does not use metal strings? They use nylon or sometimes gut strings.
What a very good nice
i started playing electric first and then i played bass and it was bruising my fingertips lmao 🤣
how many strings would you recommend?
At least 1
@@RedlightBlue lmao
@@RedlightBlue BRUH
Eyy new videoo..!
Is that a gs mini?
Yeah, but how do you explain their high price?
Obama
Right! My pet peeve is Americans are all like "strings are practically free I change my strings every day before practice" meanwhile here a pack of strings costs the same as a full tank of petrol 😭
Good
exciting
Holy jeez man you're hilarious
what colour strings are best?
Depends on the time of year
cool
thanks
What's the difference between the classical one and acustic?
classical strings are made of nylon
@@Marro245 is it illegal to have a classical guitar with steal strings?
@@mr.ypselon509
It's literally murder
bingus
!
what guitar is that, that your holding ?
looks like a taylor gs mini mahagony
Why hello there…
why would you buy strings if you already have them?...
I just use floss as guitar strings
For electric, you should only be buying elixirs. If you buy anything else you’re an idiot lol. They cost 1.5 times more than normal ones but last over twice as long and dont rust and get rough or sticky. There’s pretty much no degradation curve.
And no they dont affect sound on electrics. All the strings have to do is cut the magnetic field of the pickups. Which these strings do just fine.
ok
Ok
Ok
I dont know anything about guitar strings i just ask the person at the store what will sound good
Your hilarious. Thanks
Bro this is unrelated to the vid but how long did it take to grow that hair
about a year
would recommend
@@RedlightBlue alright thanks I've been growing it for some months and i wanted to be like yours level
@@RedlightBlue hell yeah we need to bring back that 90s style
Why the hell would you have 11s as light electric strings, are u Kirk Hammett or something
Umm, since when is nickel magnetic? Only steel is my friend, so if the core is steel, a pickup will work, just like every acoustic sound hole pickup does.
From google “Magnetism. Nickel is one of only four metals that are ferromagnetic, meaning they are attracted to magnets and are magnetic themselves. The others are iron, cobalt and gadolinium.”
Okay but... Now explain it to me like I'm a five year old
as a portuguese speaker I say, I have absolutely 0 maturity when it comes to copper. Cu literally means anus.
You have a cubing channel???
The waffle house has found it's new host.
I wanna dislike your video cos you have no dislikes yet. It’s making me uncomfortable. You don’t deserve a dislike… but wtf. Why are there no dislikes? Did I just answer my own question.
