    Very good review. I got the same pair August 1st. I wear them 10 hrs a day 6 days a week on a factory floor. They are just now getting broken in. But so well worth it. I wish I would have done it 20 years ago. The only difference in mine is I got the honey sole for the concrete floor. So far they are holding up and I like the little extra cushion they give. I’m going to order a black pair around thanksgiving if they have a sale. I also have a pair of black Whites Perry boots in black. And I agree they are a sharp looking pair of boots. Keep wearing the Nicks. They will get there.

      Thanks for sharing. I may have to try the honey Vibram someday. Mine are feeling better each time I wear them. I am thinking about getting a black pair of the Perrys as well. I wish I had hear about these brands years ago. Thanks for watching!!

    Would like to see you wearing them. Also a correction. You said it's goodyear welt but it's actually a stitchdown construction. They flare out the vamp and stitch it down to the midsole.

      I usually wear an 11 and Nicks had me go down to a 10.5e. At first I thought it was too big but now that things are settling in I’m glad I stuck with the 10.5e. If I went any smaller it would be too tight. Everything with the break-in pretty much happen like the customer rep said it would. Thanks for watching!

    Whites has been around since 1853 and I believe it’s the worlds oldest boot company and the boot that you’re holding your hand is Otto Whites patent that nicks, Franks, JK’s and others that build the exact same boot off of the exact same patent that Otto white first designed! I bought a brand new pair of Nicks hot shots, with the high arch, which I like in my whites, but the arch is nowhere near as good as the whites if you have high arches. I think a lot of people buy Nicks because they are heavy on social media and have a CZcams channel and all that.

    Has the roughout begun to darken at all? I need to get some steel toed boots, and I can get them either in full smooth black or in this style, but I'm (my girlfriend) isn't too fond of the contrast, and I was wondering if it'd eventually even out a bit. All the same under a layer of oil and mud, eh?

    • @jdman7170
      @jdman7170  Před rokem +1

      Not yet. It is still pretty light. I havent got them messed up yet. They sent me brown by mistake so I have been keeping these for good. The black pair that I have coming, that I originally ordered, will be my work pair. I got those in the smooth, roughout as well. Reason I did that was because I always get my smooth boots all scuffed and scraped. The roughout will hide that. From what I have seen from others, once that brown roughout smooths out some, it does turn darker. Tough decision. Hope it all works out for you. Thanks for watching!

    Good review.
    Its a tough process, but trust the process.
    One day you will put em on, n it will literally be an old pair of gloves, just slide right into place and be comfortable from then on out.
    You will break them in.
    There is ways to break em in a little easier, with some 50/50 alcohol/water mix, esp if they are super tight in spots, it does something to leather without drying it out, but it can't be used for to long and then you have to follow up that process with a good moisturizer/oil or the like.
    Anyway, imagine this is the easier of their boots to break in lol.

    Which arch selection is that ?
    I am debating between the 67 & the 55.
    I’m also concerned the block heel will be difficult to get used to especially if I go back n forth with other boots like wedges. What do you think?

    • @jdman7170
      @jdman7170  Před 5 měsíci

      I got the 67 classic arch with the sprung toe (Tall toe). If your other boots dont have an arch, you will notice it. I have custom orthotics with an arch that I put in my other boots to make up the difference. My feet feel so much better with the high arch. I love these boots! Thanks for watching!

  • @saddle8bag

    I used to wear similar boots all the time, don't remember the mfg. They last forever. Still have both pairs. I have a shoe shop up the road that has replaced the soles numerous times. Now I tend to just buy motorcycle ankle boots and throw them away after a few seasons though.
    So now that your shoe guy is gone, will you ship these back to the mfg for soles? Do they do that?
    The other thing I'm curious about is if you had to adjust your shifter to fit that toe under them. The ones I had didn't have that tall reinforced toe area.

    • @jdman7170
      @jdman7170  Před 2 lety +1

      Yep these are an investment for sure. You can send them back to Nicks and they can do a resole or a full rebuild on them. Thats what I will probably do when the time comes. I havent had them on the bike yet. I will have to see about that. Glad you're still out there and thanks for watching!!

      @@sergeant816 hahaha yeah they are pretty tough on the break in. Get yourself some merino wool socks. You’ll thank me for that advice. One thing though. I got a black pair that I wear in the winter. First thing I did was coat them with beeswax since they would be seeing a lot of rock salt. I can’t say for sure if it was the wax or the black leather but they softened up pretty quickly compared to the brown.

      @@jdman7170 It's good to know. Thanks... but Wow, that's weird. They must have shrunk a bit to form around your foot then. Or maybe, as the leather loosens a bit, you just tightened the laces a bit more?

      @jdman7170  Před rokem

      @@Condor1970 I forget exactly how they worded it since it been so long but something that the arch and the last does to your foot. I know they have changed my foot because the new custom (made from imprint of my feet)orthotics I just got have more of an arch than my old ones. Could tell the difference right away. It’s nice to have an arch that I can use in my other shoes that’s similar to what’s in the Nicks. I also started wearing merino wool socks everyday. They are a game changer.

    • @jdman7170
      @jdman7170  Před rokem

      I’d say it all depends on what kind of environment your boots are in. If they are starting to look like they are drying out, I would oil them up. The more water and mud you are in, you will be cleaning and oiling them more. I just waxed mine because I am in a lot of rock salt during the winter. I plan on cleaning them good and re-waxing them when winter is over. Thanks for watching!
