  • How to clean a Dirty Fancoil that doesn't work!
Among the systems that meet the modern needs of comfort in the home, fancoil systems are having a very wide diffusion in recent years, thanks to their construction in a short time, economic compared to other types of systems, and thanks to the possibility they offer to cope with to the continuous and different aesthetic needs.
In fact, it is possible to use fan coils, installing them on the wall, ceiling, floor or false ceilings and, if necessary, the fan coils can also be ducted.
The ducts allow the air from different chambers to be taken and treated by means of ducts, generally made of polyurethane foam and coated with aluminum in a sandwich-type structure.
Polyurethane ducts are a technique that combines the characteristics of lightness of the materials, quick installation, flexibility and low costs. A fancoil is the terminal of a hydronic system, which uses water as a heat carrier fluid, which reaches the coil by means of connecting pipes between the generator and the fancoils themselves.
The pipes are also made of lightweight, flexible and quick-to-handle materials during installation, and are generally made of appropriately insulated polyurethane to increase their thermal insulation capacity and reduce energy costs.
A fan coil hydronic system does not require particular attention regarding its maintenance, but the part to which you need to pay more attention is the filter.
Periodically, about every two or three months, the fan coil filters must be removed and simply washed, even with soapy water.
The fan coil filters can also be treated with suitable hygienic products, easily available on the market, which limit the accumulation of dust and also reduce the formation of bacterial flora, phenomena that can be particularly unpleasant.
Furthermore, an excessive accumulation of dust on the filters of the fancoils, in addition to compromising the healthiness of the air in the rooms served, can also significantly compromise the operation of the fancoils themselves and a decrease in the overall yield of the hydronic system.
In fact, a clogged battery of a fancoil does not allow a correct and complete exchange of thermal energy between the same battery and the air taken from the environment.
The consequence of all this is that the temperature of the fancoil coil remains high (not having exchanged thermal energy with the air) while the air introduced into the environment is not heated, moreover, detecting a particularly high temperature of the coil.
In these conditions, the fancoil ventilation can also be automatically interrupted without producing any comfort in the room, with the consequence that the yield of the system is, in fact, zero, as there is only a waste of energy without any benefit.
The same situation of malfunctioning of the fancoils, due to the clogging of the air filters, can be created dually in summer when the hydronic system and fancoil work for the production of cold thermal energy.
Removing the filter is an extremely simple operation that can be carried out by lifting the body or cover of the lower part of the fan coil, generally fixed with screws or interlocking.
In any case, cleaning the filters is an extremely simple operation and should be just as ordinary.
In the instruction booklet of each fancoil there are the instructions to follow to carry out the simple maintenance operation of the filters.
