  • Badu Island Dance Troupe performs following the day's tombstone openings. The video was also filmed on Badu Island, Torres Strait- Queensland.
Many islands in the Torres Strait have their own unique contemporary boat and lugger dances. This dance is specific to Badu Island. It employs model lugger boats worn on the head and hand held dance ornaments. The boats are detailed replicas of actual boats the men of Badu worked on, and in some cases, owned.
Luggers are symbols of the pearling, trochus and beche-de-mer fishing industries that were once prevalent in the Torres Strait, Far North Queensland and elsewhere Northern Australia.
