Kid is smarter than a few of my gaming buddies
LOL
Yeah, I'm a DM and I was just thinking this.
I thought he was smart as well. I don't play DnD, but I see he knew the pattern of the treasure song repeating being used as the end game sound. 29:00 Detail Oriented Personality
But she messed up and took two turns in a row. Kids are naturally drunk.
Yup 😅
What a high-quality toy. Even in 1995 as a little kid I would have been stoked to have something like this.
Makes you wonder how different innovative toy designers allowed to be now.
Even in 2024 as an old fart I'm stoked to have something like this 🌈 @@saturncrush
I’ve unfortunately never been stoked 😢
I had one of those when I was a kid. Wish I still had it though.😢🤪
Agreed. This is awesome I would have loved it in the late 90s. Wish I'd seen it at a car boot
Pretty cool game, especially for its time. But seeing how excited and into the game your daughter was was adorable you guys got a real special bond there.
Thanks for your compliment. I’ll be sure to share it with her!
I still have mine too.
I love the old lights. Very - digital 80's alarm clock - esque .lol
What a lovely daughter you have. So kind to you even in a make-believe scenario.
Wants to just share the treasure with the dragon.... could we please make her a leader.
"no no no daddy, he would share it" - kids are the best. Dude robbed a dragon and the kid was concerned with everyone getting something out of it. Amazing
Run a few games with young kids, it's a blast. They either share everything and work as a team, or go straight to war crimes. It's genuinely a fun time with surprises for all.
I came here to see an obscure board game, stuck around because of the wholesome daddy-daughter bonding.
This is literally still one of the best games I have ever seen based on D&D, it has really stood the test of time. It's fun for a large age group and still looks in immaculate condition. Awesome video.
Thanks for watching! Please check out the handheld D&D game Mattel Electronics made a year later - not as awesome but still cool czcams.com/video/ZFBoTKmUmN4/video.htmlsi=DPczryI7Ylft3cbx
Holy crap i've got for decades a very cloudy but powerfull child memory of an electronic game seen visiting someone house in the middle of a parquet floor living room, a big glack/grey box representing walls or stone with 4 structures on corners, with red square and some lightning on it.
I searched it all this time mainly on internet and at some point i thought that was maybe just a dream, but bro THIS IS IT what a relief.
thank you
Wow, your story would make for a great remake petition commercial! Thanks for sharing!
tell your daughter to never change, she is too precious.
If boardgame companies still made games like this instead of Girlboss Monopoly, then maybe they wouldn't have to complain about low sales.
That prismatic dragon cover is exquisite!
Reminded me of how my boys and I used to enjoy gaming together. I'm glad they're grown, but miss those days. Good job!
I still have mine with all the pieces and booklet. I don't have a battery to test it but last time I pulled it out it still worked. :) I got mine from my Mom.
Treasure it!
I still have my original game also. The booklet fits in the drawer so you don't lose it.
BTW do you have 1 or 2 booklets?
This game is incredibly impressive for something made in 1980. Looks like a lot of fun. Wish they would do a re-release!
Oh man, this is such a cool nostalgic piece of D&D history!
That box art is GORGEOUS.
u mean "ugly".
TSR staff artists were known for their interest in amateur pharmacology.

Incredibly cute seeing you play this with your daughter, chicken soup for the soul.
I used to play this game at my uncle's house as a child! This game and... ?Dark Tower? are the two electronic fantasy games I remember the most that I would play. big nostalgia points here.
Dark Tower, was one of my go to when I was young.
I think they re-released Dark Tower a few years back! 🙂
Check out Return to Dark Tower. It spits out skulls!
Yes. Dark Tower! That's the game I was trying to remember. So many hours playing that game. Countless really. I can still remember the feeling of how fun it was.
Dark Tower is a classic, and quite valuable last time I checked.
I had one of those back when it was new, and it's very rare to find anyone who remembers they existed, let alone has one. Nice to see people having fun with it again!
I think I have a vague memory of seeing it inside of a Sears catalog
I don’t when how my family had one, but we definitely did. Even though I wasn’t introduced to D&D proper by a friend years later. We just had a lot of early consumer electronics. (I’m thinking Mario’s Cement Factory; which I don’t think was referenced in the recent movie.)
My family had one too, forgot all about it. We also had the 1979 Caleco hand held alien attack.
I remember seeing this game as a child, and I was too young to figure it out the time. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the history lesson and demonstration; I was absolutely charmed by this! I went out and ordered my own off of eBay a few hours later. Cannot wait to pester everyone in my house to play it with me.
You just made my day! The following year Mattel made this -> Arcade Handheld Dungeons and Dragons Computer Fantasy Game (1981)

I'm actually surprised how reasonably priced it is. A lot of electronic games from this era can be pricey, and this one is exceptional and has easily lost pieces.
I've also never seen it before. Not as a kid (I was 5 in 1980) and not as a collector (I run a vintage toy business, not often something this big surprises me.)
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. Still have my original and most of its pieces. Epic nostalgia.
I could actually visualize a lot of the sounds. Those are really well done. This is a also the best explanation of this game I've ever gotten.
I've talked with some of my friends, with children, about how you communicate with the young ones. With respect and the kindness that you would give an adult. Kudos!
My friend had one of these and the game was really fantastic for its time. I've thought of it occasionally throughout the years and wished I could experience again. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for reliving the memories!
That was awesome!!! Thank you for sharing a demo of the game play with your adorable daughter!! It was very cool to see the moves play out and the "guess" about the dragon's location. Very cool game design.
This was a whole lot of fun to watch - especially the play session! Now I really want to find one myself to play with my own daughter! All the best :)
Had one, loved it for about 3 hours. The sound it makes when the dragon is flying haunts my thoughts to this day...Thanks for the upload!
LOL the dragon can be terrifying. The commercial for the game certainly was as a kid. Thanks for watching!
I LOVED this game when I was a kid. Played it for hours solo. The electronics wore out on some of the tiles but I still have the miniatures.
Wow. You really got value out of it at least. Curiously, how often do you play Level 2? I think I only tried it less than 5 times over 4 decades.
@@nerdmimic I don't recall ever going higher. Maybe I did and don't remember. Not played it since the 80's. Did you try the two player? I liked playing that mode but it was hard to keep track of where the dragon was and who had the treasure.
I had this toy as a teen. It was an awesome process of elimination and reasoning game. I think that it would be just as fun today
That was FAR more engrossing for me than it should have been!!! Wow that brings back memories of playing that with my childhood best friend. It was his game, but I loved it. Thanks for the vid !!!
In the part where you show how the game is played, as relatively simple as it seems, there are quite tense situations, especially when the dragon starts to approach you. In addition, it gives a slight feeling of the Minesweeper game when you try to figure out how to move through the maze until you run into a wall or until you find the slot that wakes up the dragon. Overall, it looks like a really nice game 👍
As a child in the 90s, my uncle had one of these but unfortunately it was not working. I was just getting into D&D and thought this was the coolest thing ever, even if it did not work.
Thanks so much for reviving a memory I haven't had in forever and showing off the capabilities of this thing.
And thanks to you for sharing your childhood memories with us!
I had this game. Got it for Christmas one year. I used to play with my little sister. She won most of the time. =) The sounds are amazing and take me back to that shag carpet LOL
i could tell by her breathing, she was fully immersed. she has a strong imagination. it's great to see the younger generations getting excited over things that existed in earlier generations.
also very perceptive to realize the victory theme is just the treasure theme played multiple times.
I love older boardgames they put so much effort into them in the 80s and 90s.
I got this from a friend at church...who then got in trouble for giving it to me casue DnD bad or something. See how much fun you had with your little one though was the highlight of this vid for me.
I had to bring my set out from the garage and have a friend 3D print some walls and marker tokens for me, as they'd been lost to the toy chest when I was a kid. I recall never actually knowing how to play this game and only just played it all the way through for the first time with my son, who's a D&D fan. So much fun! I also have (maybe) the electronic adventure game, never knew how to play that one either. Thank you for bringing an incomplete part of my childhood to fruition after decades of owning but never having played this game!
Maybe with 3D print door tokens for Level 2. That would be cool and practical!
What a beautiful piece of classic tech.
They really made amazing games back in the day and your daughter is so cute! When she wanted to share the treasure with the dragon it reminded me of my own little one.
Sound effects remind of the suite of sound effects used within the DarkTower electronic game.
Thank you for sharing this game. I hadn't heard of it before, but I remember The Dark Tower game, and am glad there were more like it.
Also, it's very cool that your daughter not only likes boardgames, but seems like a good sport about not winning. I love her suggestion that you share the treasure with the dragon. So sweet!
Oh my word, and just like that you spawned yet another nostalgia overload. I love this content!
I'm now feeling the urge to replicate this with an arduino and a custom made pcb (since I'm 99.9% positive it wasn't sold in my country)
Great video dude!
I've seen all sorts of D&D stuff, but I've never heard of this little gem before this video. What a great little game.
What an innovative way to make a board game dungeon crawler where exploration is still a key feature. Inspiring and wholesome. 👍
I still have mine, somewhere! When last played, it still worked - but now I fear that I may have left the batteries in it and if they might've corroded by now, it's been about 15yrs since I last had it out, before I moved.
I don't remember mine having little graphics on the square, but it could just be my memory.
Dang, now I'm going to spend days looking for it... 😖
Thanks for uploading this, what a great bit of surprise nostalgia recommended by YT - and I was watching space sim vids for the past 2hrs, so I'm grateful it somehow tweaked the algorithm
I still have mine and it is mint and complete. This was very forward thinking, and an amazing non video, standalone game with metal pieces, plastic labyrinth walls, and brilliant gameplay mechanics. It's a shame this game hasn't been reissued. But thank you for presenting it!!! It's a very fun and innovative game.
I would love to see a "limited edition" like a Franklin Mint set with a dark wooden castle outer frame, a lighter wood frame inlay where the "touch" membrane resides. Hand painted dragon, treasure, and characters. And the pieces all a light stone colored wood that when set up within the board, they give an impression of a real stone dungeon. An updated board and processor with more realistic sounds and maze combinations.
Wow, that certainly would be impressive! Thanks for sharing your imagination!
What an amazing game, there were loads of cool electronic games brought out in the 80's when I was growing up but I don't remember seeing this on in Scotland, at least not where I stay. It's in such good condition too, well done you as a kid- and as a Dad because your wee lass is really clever! 👍
Thanks for the compliments. I’ll be sure to pass them on to my daughter!
This was so great. I remember this, but it's been decades. I think my friend owned it, because I would have remembered the box. Thank you!
My Dad had this when I was a kid and i'd play with the figures inside and try to figure the game out but It was beyond me. Watching you explain this and play it is amazing.
Thanks for sharing your childhood memories!
Oh my gosh this is a thing of beauty. Thank you for sharing!!! Keep it safe!!
This is honestly a cool idea for a game. Weird that we dont see stuff like this much anymore.
such a cool concept. and even better your sharing memories you had as a kid with your kid.
I have one of these in my cabinet next to me. Last time I fiddled with it (10ish years ago) it still worked. :)
I still have this! This was so much fun to play as a kid!
I had one of these in the 80's as a kid and God knows where it ended up. I loved that thing. I bought one recently on eBay. I actually wrote a computer game version (single player).
Wow! That thing is gorgeous!
Somehow I completely missed this as a kid, but I know I would have been obsessed with it!
very cool video. Very well explained and played. I completely could pick this up and play it from just watching the video.
I’m 58 years old. I remember getting this game in 1980 or 81. I was in to dungeons and dragons very heavily. I still have a couple of the pieces for it but the game is long since gone. I forgot I even owned it until I stumbled across your video. That alone was worth subscribing.
Thanks for doing so. Enjoy your day!
had one as a kid at same box -- Christmas 1981 --- wish I still had it now!
Wow, this looks like a great time. Really impressive game and thanks for showcasing it.
That's amazingly cool! I've always been fascinated by board games that have a solo option because not many do. The cover artwork is a strange choice to say the least
Great that you still have the game in such condition! I remember having Merlin, CompIV, and some of the handheld sports games.
That was such an awesome video to watch. I love D&D. It would be so awesome if they remade this. Thanks for showing this gameplay.
Great how to play. Keep up the amazing work!
I had this game growing up. Years and years of fun. Wish I still had it. Also, Dark Tower I think it was called, were the best in board games at the time.
Even though I never played D&D, I watched this video with my 4 year old who really enjoyed it. Getting a custom built D&D 4 player arcade cabnet built, so he is interested in everything D&D currently. Nice, apolitical and fun video.
I would love to see your cabinet on CZcams one day. Are you making it to run Gauntlet 2 or the Capcom D&D beat them ups?
Gonna be built as the D&D game with the capcom as secondary games@@nerdmimic
I loved this whole video. Me and my friends recently played Omega Virus a couple times, after the game sat in a closet for decades.
Smart kid. I was kind of surprised by how engaging this was.
Holy crap. I remember wanting this as a kid. Id forgotten all about it till i saw this video.
I had this & the dark tower….
Both still haunt me with hsppiness
Wow! Really cool seeing this again. I got this for Christmas one year but it’s long gone.
THANK YOU!!! i bought this game to play with my son 17 years ago at a yard sale. It was missing the manual and the bottom does not have the sticker like yours. I have all the pieces except the green token with the mace and 3 walls (assuming it came with 50) I was able to screenshot your manual as you displayed the pages so i'll be able to print them. Almost as good as scans :). Thanks again. i just wish i was able to play with my son who was about the age of your daughter at the time. Now i play real Dungeons and Dragons with him but he may be excited to try this since he has seen in in our game cupboard for the last 17 years and all it did was beep and boop and we could never make sense of it ;)
That’s why I do 100% flip throughs. Glad it helped!
I still have mine that I got for Christmas the year it came out. Played it a few months ago, still working great!
I bought this game last year, so impressive for what it was at the time.
Only thing I'm not too fond of is the door mechanics of the advanced mode, they do need to give you some sort of peg to notify you there is a door there, but the randomness on if it's open or closed is annoying.
That was pretty cool -- I liked and subscribed!
I didn't have this game but I did have The Dark Tower game. and the small digital D&D game (still have it around somewhere).
The box art is incredible.
This is so wholesome, I love it
I was, admittedly, spoiled as a child, and really didn’t want for anything. I always wanted this game, but my childhood “passion” was Star Wars, so that was always top priority on wish lists. I had this down on several lists, but never received it. Never bothered me, because I had so many other things to keep me entertained.
Now that I have finally seen this being played… this would have been my favourite game back in the day! I suspect my neighbour and I would have spent hours playing this, as opposed to playing with the various Kenner Star Wars stuff.
Oh well. Missing out didn’t affect my childhood… 😊
Cheers
Ah! What a cool piece of nerd history! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Thanks for this... The single best and most wholesome video/moment ever...
Thanks for thinking so! Kids grow up too fast sometimes… sigh.
I have this from my childhood. My children enjoy playing with it today.
I own this after playing it so much the sounds are as clear as images in your mind.
Iv been looking to get this game and am gllad there are tutorials like this! Thanks!
Also your daughter is a better strategist then some actual adults I know lmao
I bet she would love the D&D video games like Neverwinter Nights 1+2, Icewind Dale 1+2, and Bauldurs Gate 1+2!
Really good condition! Those sounds are fantastic! Such memories
Had one of these when I was a kid. Amazing back in the day.
Sucks that I missed this game since I joined the world in 86. Would love to have this nowadays. Thanks for sharing it with everyone.
One of the best opening sentences. Thanks for watching!
I was born in 87. That wouldve been cool as hell when i was growing up!
Congrats being able to share with both your child and fans!
blessed, thanks for sharing mate. something for the ages
I had one growing up and it was fantastic, gateway to D&D for me.
I had this as a kid. So many hours were spent playing this!
I remember seeing this in commercials as a kid.My family was pretty poor and the thought of a $25 game was very expensive. What an amazing closet find, and for it to be in such wonderful condition! I wanted Dark Tower which came out a year later. Both games were very ahead of their times!
Oh man…..this takes me back. I completely forgot about this. Thanks for the nostalgia!!!
Well that looks fun. Glad to see you could get your kid involved.
Kind of wish someone would release a digital version of the game.
Talk about memories! Got one as a kid at a garage sale. Was missing pieces but we made it work and played it until it completely died.
Subbed good luck on the 1K nice seeing some old school D&D
Always wanted this toy its need to be updated for the new generation of gamers. Who remembers the commercial for this game?
so bad ass and such a good vid very wholesome play w your daughter she picked it up really quickly and well
We played this game for hours when we were kids. Another one was Dark Tower
Very wholesome and fun playthrough!
