Anybody know who to send a midi signal to an actual hardware synth so while you're playing it live, it will change from piano sound to maybe a trumpet sound and then back to piano sound when you need it to, for example?
You can also do this by choosing the "overdub" option when you right click between the track item and the track item details on the left. That is, as far as having to record separate parts. But...then you can't edit the separate parts you've played. So this is still really useful. You can also just drag new tracks up to the main VST track and then it becomes routed automatically.
I think the same thing can be accomplished by having the track containing the VSTi be a folder, and the separate Midi parts be tracks within that folder. (I'm not trying to be a wise-guy, just wondering if what I'm suggesting has disadvantages.)
Excellent video, many thanks. I need to know how to route kontakt to the Midi tracks imported to Reaper from a Score produced by an Editor software such as Finale, Musescore, etc. In this case, there are many instruments.
Kenny, please help! Why can't I get any sysex to reach my plugins? Reaper responds to the sysex messages, including MMC, by starting and stopping; but none of the plugins are getting these messages.
Is anyone else having trouble getting Reaper to record Midi from Reason's Players? Long story short is I'm creating a Reason instrument rack and dropping a player on top of a midi out instrument. I'm pointing the midi from that track to a track with a third party VST and any player runs any of my third party VST's just fine. Nothing I try will allow me to record the midi however. I can do the same thing in BandLab and it records the Midi output from the players just fine. No dice in Reaper though. It's got to be something simple. Something I'm overlooking, but it's not encouraging that I can open up a piece of software I never use and get this to work the very first time without an issue. I'm totally vexed. I had this amazing idea for a track template which involved stacked Beatmakers for sixteen pads on Ch 10 and stacked Drum Sequencers (Ch11) on the other. I was going to wrap the midi out into combinators with a Redrum on one side and a Kong on the other. I was then going to map it in such a way that I could have the players driving both devices (plus two VST plugs, one per channel) without overlapping notes. So you could A/B or run both without conflicts. One side was going to run BeatMap + VST the other Drum Sequencer + VST Everything worked perfectly. All the devices respond the way they should except Reaper refuses to record any midi in this config. It's killing me.
For those wondering what VST instrument was inserted at Drum Kit track, with individuals drum parts (as me, at first glance), take a look here: czcams.com/video/CkdksJGg214/video.html
I had a VSTI playing a bass part and I want to send it to an audio track to record as audio,Reaper is very hard to do this,I have tried everything but the signal does not go to the audio track,Reaper is not intuitive like other daws for this simple task.
Is there a way to actually print the MIDI data to the receive track? I have a drum project I wrote using multiple ReaSamplomatic tracks, but I want to transfer the MIDI to a single track with EZdrummer on it, and I'll need to change which note numbers are triggering. Any way to do that?
hey Kenny, Im having trouble in Reaper with a new interface. Roland Rubix 44. it comes up for an audio interface but it WONT show up as a MIDI interface. how do I fix this in Reaper. Im running the latest version 6.09 on 64-bit windows 10. Plz help!
Thanks, Kenny! I want to create a buss track that contains (for example) 3 bass synth sounds. Normally I copy and paste MIDI items to all three channels. This way; if I make a change and hear it simultaneously, I can't. I need to change every line of MIDI items. So, I create another MIDI item under this buss. Probably, this is the best way to do it. But this time, if I want to see the MIDI item I must see all the layers with it. I can't hide child tracks. I don't know why, but I can't send MIDI from buss track and receive audio from childs at the same time. Is there any way to do it? One buss to rule all the childs with MIDI and recieve their audio to send master!
906 days after the making of your video it helped me out big time, thank you as always!
The Kenny gioia drinking game.... take a shot every time you think... "I didnt know you could do that..."
Ooh that's a good one, especially since I have no idea what I'm doing
My god, you’d better watch in the ER to save the trip when you collapse
that's super cool to know. Thanks
I can't play keyboard either. This method of recording MIDI is a great solution for my work flow. Kudos Kenny!
This was a very helpful tutorial - thank you very much for this!
very usful information ,thankyou.
Very nice tutorial Kenny. How about an extension to this video to include how to use the Bus feature.
Thanks in advance. As always you rock.
Brilliant as always, Kenny. Thank you!

Midi routing button is not shown in default skin of reaper 6.51

You saved my day once fucking again Kenny. Thank you.
I have tried to find out how to route midi and failed. So thank you a lot for this video !
Thank you Kenny!
Thanks a lot mate, it helped me with one doubt I had.
Kenny, the Reaper Wizard. Exhaustive tutorial, as always. Thumb up.
Great, yes I learned something and will use it - thanks!

Can't seem to find any info on how to record the midi output generated from a plugin such as scaler 2
Very useful. Many thanks

They have to put back the routing icon in track view. I had to use the default 5 Theme to see it ....
5:20 Hello how can I learn how to have drum sounds assigned to a track in that same way?
Thanks as usual!
THANK YOU SO MUSH

Cool! Could you make a future tutorial showing how to do the same using busses with multimbral instrument?
Which one?

Kenny thank you! Quick question - how can you display a piano at the bottom of the screen like you do in this video?
on PC Alt+B to open Virtual MIDI keyboard, then dock it at the bottom

I cant see a "routing" section in the track panal, so I can't drag and drop it.
I can see it after clicking "View" -> "Routing Matrix"
It can also be done in the mixer panel (the colored slashes)
His vocal inflections are so strange
mUITO B EMMMMMMMM!!!
Got lost immediately. Reaper doesn't look (or apparently) function like this any more.
1.25x... Great video, thanks
