    When I was four years old, I hid in an abandoned doghouse while we kids were playing hide-and seek. I looked up and there, inches from my face, was a huge nest, every single wasp was "a-lookin" at me. I stood up to run.
    I was stung many times before I passed out. Woke up in a hospital with some kind of tube stuck in my arm.
    I have been petrified of them ever since. I'm 74 now. I do not know why in God's holy name I chose to watch this :D

      @BigGeak Před 4 lety +353

      I'd be petrified too! after I realized the difference of bees, wasps, and hornets, I realized the real problem is wasps, I still have a scar (although small and insignificant) from when I got stung for my first time about 5 years ago. I can't imagine being stung by a whole nest to the point I pass out.

    (26:14) A small, amusing part: after a few moments waiting with the vacuum and little sign of wasps, he vacuums a small part from the corner. As he's doing so, he apparently doesn't notice a lone wasp come out of the comb on the lower right side. Instead of flying up as so many before her did, the wasp pauses and heads back inside.
    Wasp: Where's all this noise and vibration coming from? Where did everyone go? Are we attacking?
    (Looks around; sees vacuum and no fellow wasps).
    Wasp: Nope. Screw that, I'm going back inside.

    • @J_-_
      @J_-_ Před 3 lety +32

      Stanley worked for a company in a big comb where he was employee number 427. Employee number 427's job was simple; he sat at his comb in room 427 and he carved holes out for larvae. Orders came to him through another yellow jacket on a different comb, telling him what holes to carve, how deep to carve them and in what order. This is what employee 427 did every day of every month of every year, and although other yellow jackets might have considered it soul-rending, Stanley relished every moment that the orders came in, as though he had been made exactly for this job, and Stanley was happy.

    This was crazy! I actually have trouble with wasps trying to set up shop in my house or on my property, most years. The decretive woodwork over my front door, is a favorite target of theirs. So far, I've found the hive as it was just getting started, usually when the queen has built just a few cells. Getting rid of the nest at this early stage has been easy. I've just zip tied a scraper or a hose with a high pressure nozzle to a long pole and just scraped the thing off. They always build the nest in a sunny location, most of my yard is shady.
    Removing an old nest that has been used for years is a whole different ballgame, Kudos to you for doing it!
