When I was four years old, I hid in an abandoned doghouse while we kids were playing hide-and seek. I looked up and there, inches from my face, was a huge nest, every single wasp was "a-lookin" at me. I stood up to run.
I was stung many times before I passed out. Woke up in a hospital with some kind of tube stuck in my arm.
I have been petrified of them ever since. I'm 74 now. I do not know why in God's holy name I chose to watch this :D
I'd be petrified too! after I realized the difference of bees, wasps, and hornets, I realized the real problem is wasps, I still have a scar (although small and insignificant) from when I got stung for my first time about 5 years ago. I can't imagine being stung by a whole nest to the point I pass out.
Ouch. That must’ve been VERY painful.

Despite never being stung in my life (I'm 53 now), I simply can't stand these insects. I have an almost primal fear of them. So anyone who can take care of a nest this size is a hero in my eyes. Hornet King, I salute you!
Sting virgin here aswell. I think that’s what makes it terrifying. The fact we never experienced it lets our mind go rampant about these small bzzing terrifying things
@@FlyLeah Good point. It's like a fear of the unknown, in a sense.
I'm still terrified and finally got stung recently (and bit, too. I actually have a small scar)
Wasn’t stung either until recently by this little black wasp looking thing and found out I’m deathly allergic. Even before I found out, I was terrified of even honey bees. It’s definitely the noise that gets me the buzzing drives me insane.
For a normal sized wasp, it's kinda like something scalding hot touches you for a moment. I've never been stung by something huge like a hornet so I can't say from experience what that's like.
I remember when I was 8 and saw my grandma spraying lighter fluid in a metal trash can. Watched her walk over to the shed with it and a broom and bitch slap a giant wasp nest into the can then light it on fire... Grandma dont play.
That's fucking awesome.

(26:14) A small, amusing part: after a few moments waiting with the vacuum and little sign of wasps, he vacuums a small part from the corner. As he's doing so, he apparently doesn't notice a lone wasp come out of the comb on the lower right side. Instead of flying up as so many before her did, the wasp pauses and heads back inside.
Wasp: Where's all this noise and vibration coming from? Where did everyone go? Are we attacking?
(Looks around; sees vacuum and no fellow wasps).
Wasp: Nope. Screw that, I'm going back inside.
😂😂
It’s kind of surprising the homeowner didn’t have any real problems for so long despite having a HUGE nest in her house.
Me: *is terrified of wasps*

The way you live life, working with nature, is really inspiring. How the dead ones are composted, and the larva are given to the chickens and squirrels.
Its nice.
We can make bulletproof clothing that weighs as much as cotton, but we don't yet have completely sting proof bee suits? What a world.
Right??
Well, most bulletproof vests aren't stab-proof. :P
Helps that they're bigger and not homing in on you.
It's not really a high priority
@@deathunitesus2135 What does that even mean?
feeding the larvae to chickens is an efficient use of the biomass. Nice.
I agree, but I noticed he prayed the nest with something.. wouldnt that make the chickens sick ?
@@ieuanWM I think the pesticide that he sprayed on the nest is not toxic to chickens. Just an educated guess.
Nice
@@marcuswillcox8291 And what kind of an education would that be?
I bet those chickens taste good 😋
Noticing how attracted they were to the bright lamp next to you, why not clip a super bright torch (flashlight) to the end of the vacuum hose, or one of the (smaller) ring lights around the end, and let the hornets come to you (well, the hose, obviously)? Very interesting vid, by the way.

Catching up on your earlier videos. I love watching you interacting with your animals - both domestic and wild - an added attraction to your videos. Also your patience when dealing with that confused lady is amazing. My only negative is that after watching that vacuuming, I have this unfortunate desire to vacuum up hoards of wasps. Hopefully this will soon pass...
When my mom married my stepfather we moved into his old house that had been abandoned for 10 years. As he was getting it prepared for us to move in. He realized in the living room that some sort of bee had moved into the walls. I remember seeing the nests laying in the floor and still in the walls. Two whole walls about 7 feet to the corner. Top to bottom.

Another reason all wasps and Hornets should die. Leave our honeybees alone!
Question the black flag you use is that just spray you put on the windowsill and floor. ? If yes do you need to wash down after? Thanks uk
@@stephencookie9678 it's just an aerosol spray mainly used by him (from what I've seen in his vids) in more overwhelming and cramped situations but it wasn't put onto the windows and floor, just that the bees tend to fly towards light/heat (like most bugs) so that's where they would end up.
@@stephencookie9678 in another video he explains that he sprays it in the air and it disrupts their “attack” pheromones and disorients them. Basically helps keep them from swarming.

That one yellow jacket: oh i-i can't even go to the bar to drink my sarrows as everythings gone. ;_; *begians dying from black flag* OH FUCK AHHHH HELP ME GOD AAAA- *lungs stop working*
This is the story of a yellow jacket named Stanley
Stanley worked for a company in a big comb where he was employee number 427. Employee number 427's job was simple; he sat at his comb in room 427 and he carved holes out for larvae. Orders came to him through another yellow jacket on a different comb, telling him what holes to carve, how deep to carve them and in what order. This is what employee 427 did every day of every month of every year, and although other yellow jackets might have considered it soul-rending, Stanley relished every moment that the orders came in, as though he had been made exactly for this job, and Stanley was happy.
Just goes with the territory.

Technically chickens are descendants of velociraptors, which makes them tiny dinosaurs. They're actually doing genetic experiments now where they trigger atavistic traits to try and create de-evolved versions, with the eventual hope of basically creating a dinosaur through reverse evolution.

Agreed
TIny Dragons is a reference to dinosaurs. True dragons never existed. However, the primal memory of humanity remembers these dinosaurs as "dragons". It's a Simon-says sort of thing. If nobody remembered they didn't breath fire, then why not add that to the story? It makes if more interesting. I digress, chickens are tiny dragons.

This was crazy! I actually have trouble with wasps trying to set up shop in my house or on my property, most years. The decretive woodwork over my front door, is a favorite target of theirs. So far, I've found the hive as it was just getting started, usually when the queen has built just a few cells. Getting rid of the nest at this early stage has been easy. I've just zip tied a scraper or a hose with a high pressure nozzle to a long pole and just scraped the thing off. They always build the nest in a sunny location, most of my yard is shady.
Removing an old nest that has been used for years is a whole different ballgame, Kudos to you for doing it!
