- One of the most famous shootouts in movie history! (In my opinion.)
On this scene, the Terminator tried to kill Sarah Connor but Kyle Reece stopped it by shooting it with a shotgun and caused a gunfight between them. All credit goes to MGM! Enjoy folks! - Zábava
T2 was a action movie. This was a sci-fi horror movie...
More like thriller
I disagree. T2 had just as much horror as this one. The hospital scene is a great example. It's one of many elements missing from the newer movies.
I prefer this movie over all of the others followed by Terminator Salvation.
Exactly. Cameron learned from Aliens: when you can't repeat the horror you must go for big action instead.
Yeah Halloween the futuristic version. Arnold was every bit Michael Myers and Linda Hamilton was Laurie Strodes and Michael Biehn was Dr. Loomis.
Arnold was terrifying in this movie. T1 is a masterpiece.
Best combination of horror and sifi and action and good pace... T1 and the predator have so much in common
Other terminator movies? I dont really know.

Exactly smh.
Shouldn't surprise anyone. Jaws is from the '80s. The Wrath of Khan; still the best 'Trek film made. Close encounters of the Third Kind. Aliens is from 1986; and is the best sequel ever made, it may never meet it's equal. The music from 80-'86 will still get radioplay in another hundred yrs. Can't even remember the last time I heard a memorable contemporary tune. At least the videogames today are better. But I'd choose a rocking soundtrack to life, over videogames; any day of any week.
1984 was THE best year for movies.

The best acting Arnold ever did...He was PERFECTLY cast as the terminator. no doubt
Casting Arnold as the Terminator was James Cameron's idea. He was originally slated to play Reese.
MICHAEL WOODS besides predator
agreed 😂
Only under Cameron's directions he was perfectly used as a Terminator.
Exactly! After T2 the whole thing became just ridiculous and stupid ...
Love how Kyle's knowledge of terminators is demonstrated by his fighting style, ducking and weaving and diving for cover, never staying in one place for a long time, while periodically letting off shots to distract or temporarily incapacitate it, and then waiting until the Terminator's good and distracted before he goes in again. It shows us his character before he even says anything, a skilled fighter and a lightning-quick strategiser, who is on familiar terms with his enemy. modern action films would just have him rush in, all guns blazing, explodey and chaotic, the camera would be all shaky, and we wouldn't know who the good or bad guys are. Also love how Linda Hamilton plays Sarah before the shooting starts, looking around, and occasionally nodding in time to the music in a effort to dispel her anxiety.
100 percent right!!! Terminator films after 3D turned into transformer movies 😂
yes holy shit. skilled warrior
This film's air-tight bois!
1:15 The music, the lights, the colors, the club, the people, everything that was amazing about the 80’s is in this scene. T-800, Sarah, and Reese are the icing on top of the cake.

There’s something gritty about T1 that isn’t in any of the sequels, not even T2. It’s kind of reminds me of The Warriors.
The first one was more horror/slash with little of sci-fi.
Then by the sequel and beyond it went to be action movies.
It's the sweat. They filmed T1 in the summer.
Also T1 was a low budget film. Low budget films always had more grit to them.

It’s what I’ve always thought and felt, looking at that perfectly shot scene!
Absolutely true. First Terminator is just all around awesome.
Curious fact: Cameron's idea of this movie came from a nightmare he had xD
ARX78 Agreed. The entire film is just a masterpiece. The 2nd one is also really good, just a different feeling from the first one.
There was something dark around "The Terminator" that they never could, or wanted, to replicate. Or maybe it was something in the film making. This Tech-Noir scene is a master piece. One of the things, I believe, made this movie so dark was the fact that we could see people getting killed in a more or less gory way. As we go further into the saga, I think the movies became more "family friendly", kind of Disney-like. I couldn't say for sure, but I have the feeling that the first terminator movie was set mostly on night scenes.
The plot was also simple at this point. Just two time travelers fighting in a neutral land. Nothing complex like multiple universes, nano robots, and stuff like that... Just a powerful cyborg on the hunting.
The movies of the 80's had something darker in this respect. Do you remember Highlander? A lot of similarities. Why those movies were so good? Why was Nightmare on Elm street so scary...
Alvaro Mp All movies before the year 2000 had great screenwriters, producers, and directors. They all had the goal to produce movies that told awesome stories. Nowadays, stories are never told. Instead, agendas are sold.
@@taoist32 yeah now too many movies are mostly rollercoaster rides, jump scare attempts and CGI demoing.
Empty/shallow, no sense of importance, nothing to remember
T1 has a very grim, unsettling atmosphere, and is quite realistic and serious. Also, very few people point this out - there is no humor in it whatsoever, and that only amplifies the dark tone of this masterpiece. Still my favorite in the series....
The problem now is there is a too much emphasis on getting away from the R rating because the studios want to take in more money. T2 was toned down in order to to achieve this and that is why the original Terminator is powerful and dark and the sequels are not. Cameron made a classic and he didnt tone things down so kiddies could see the movie. Many a great film has been destroyed by wanting to keep things on a PG 13 level.
Sometimes, having a low budget can bring out the best in film-makers.

I wouldn't say T2 is better but I consider it on par with the original. And it's because the two have such different styles. The first is basically a slasher film with a sci-fi backdrop. The terminator is perhaps the greatest villain ever. Because most villains are either sadistic or just mentally ill. The terminator has none of those weaknesses. He is simply a cold blooded predator, with no other motivation than to kill Sarah Connor and anyone else who prevents him from carrying out his mission.
And that makes him by far the scariest thing you could ever encounter.
He’s a machine though, other villains are humans which can have a more personal connection to us. But yes the fact that the terminator is so cold and ruthless is traits that are missing in so many villains
And the fact he's a machine played by Arnold Schwarzenegger makes it all worthwhile.

Yeah part one it was clear, who was who. Reese spares the homeless guy and the cop in the alley, and shoves everyone out of the way before he starts shooting here. Terminator has killed EVERYONE who has got in his way up until he let the bouncer off with a broken hand ( that's just because killing would have drawn too much attention ). You can tell who's good and who's bad easy. Part 2 you really cant tell, the first time I saw it I was wondering where the f*** is the good guy, has he not made it back yet lol? You don't know really until the mall shootout.
I love how they didn't show Arnie was a cyborg until Reese shoots him.
You can understand the reason why Kyle looks like a psycho if you see it from Sarah's perspective. Imagine being her, thinking "this guy follows me around"... then Arnold appears, the tables turn and all you have left is the perfect confusion.
vandal 33 He punched his hand through a mans chest, after speaking in a robotic way during the first scene he was in. If that didn't tell you what he was then idk...
"You're in a public place, so you'll be safe"
Never again was someone more wrong... xD
NΞWDORIΛ You're* in...
Yup. Why would a robot killer care about some meatbags other than Sarah?
NΞWDORIΛ more like it's a best thing to do but that's not a case in that situation they have no clue what it's all about or been to something no one ever done in that timeline.
tv tropes - Wrong Genre Savvy. The police thought they had a human serial killer, instead of a literal killing machine. If Arnie had been human, their actions would have made sense
@@toddkes5890 Exactly.
@@jackychang914874
Best terminator movie ever in my opinion. Seeing Arnold as a bad terminator running with a emotionless face across the alley trying to catch Sarah is terrific.
4:16 "Come with me if you wanna live." The first time of that classic Terminator phrase
I like how he's NOT himself in this movie.. He's just an uncanny nightmare with two legs!!
This movie has such amazing simplicity in brutality that it makes a brilliant movie. Also, it was perfect for Arnold. His lack of acting ability actually made his role so much more powerful and believable.
Did you know Oj Simpson was originally supposed to play that role?
I've heart that before but I think it was a myth. But then again, stranger things have happened.
Maybe, but I'm almost certain that James Cameron confirmed it. That he wasn't cast due to his pleasant persona & wasn't believable as a killer
I am very grateful OJ Simpson did not get the role.
how ironic
The production values of this first film went way beyond all the sequels, with the exception of T2. This film has real energy. It's gripping and absorbing.
02:03 I like it so so much when this amazing song starts sounding more and more distant as the Terminator passes through the crowd. I'm not someone who likes or knows how to dance, but this tune would move me to go wild :) Timeless scene!
He used the .. 45 long slide .. With laser sighting.
You know your weapons buddy!
LOLLLLLL you sir just made my day
FleckFlex Hardballer!
but first Uzi 9 milimitah!
12 guage auto-loadah...Phased plasma rifle in tha 40 watt range..."Only what you see, pal." Hahahaha. Awesome. And I always wondered why the terminator needs a laser sighting system, anyway. I mean, he's a damn cyborg, right? Shouldn't he have his own finely tuned targeting program on board? Ah well, great scene here, for sure!
No disrespect to Terminator 2 but this was the best Terminator film.
saxbend Nothing wrong with prefering Terminator over Terminator 2. I personally like Terminator more (just slightly, but both films awesome either way) due to the mix of Action and Horror-Like feel of the Film.
It's just down to taste really... the horror and dark elements made it better for me. T2 was a much bigger movie but not better in my opinion.
@@wilbertone3 agreed.
Oh I absolutely agree the first movie was the best.
@77Wells T2 Had Better Everything
I was born in 1989 and I grew up watching these classic movies on VHS. Amazing films I am a terminator fan as well and I loved them all. This scene is awesome and what I really liked about the car scenes for the movie making of those times is that certain modern films just cant replicate great car chases like they did before. I really like it when the car chases have less cgi as possible of course for certain sequences you have to use cgi but I do love the classic styled real no cgi chases they are awesome!
Movies were incredible and fun to watch in those times in the 80s and 90s.
Man it's all so perfect. The pacing. The change of the music. The very little details which make a great movie. You can watch it over and over and over again. Never gets boring.
Nowadays you don't find this well crafted movies. It's all rushed, uncreative and bloated with millions for crappy CGI.
The best intense, action scene ever. The slow motion is perfect, the lack of dialogue is great as well. Just let the scene speak for itself. It's also the most 80's thing ever.
Y la Escena del asalto ala Comisaria de Policia..es otra escena ÉPICA👍
Kyle Reece with his shotgun, epic moment.
James Heath *reese*
I heard THAT
James Heath Michael Beihn is awesome!
Most epic is that the kinetic impact of a 12 gauge pushes a 400 pound robot through a window...
@@TheGodParticle "I like to keep this handy, for close encounters..."
One of my favourite scenes in all of cinema. The tension before their inevitable encounter is golden.
It's all the little details of this film that makes it so good, this scene and the police shootout scene, and the music is just top class to create that air of tension and fear. How you can see the Terminator does get a shot off at Sarah, and it's only the split second reactions of Kyle shooting his hand that makes him miss. You even get to see the Terminator trying to repair the damage caused, later on in the film. It all adds up to being one of the best films ever made, and puts all the budgets of the newer films to shame!
Even better, I think they did something similar with T2 when Arnold shoots the T-1000 when they first cross paths in the maintenance hall.
I don't care how old Sarah Connor is. She's still a badass.
those sexy azz lips
Things you'll never see: Sarah Conner in a wheelchair.
Unless her right wheel is pressing on your throat during an impromptu interrogation. Then you'd definitely be seein' Sarah in a wheelchair.
She was a whiny bitch in this movie, until her experience hardened her. Then she became a badass.
@@rikk319
This is basically a "growing up" movie for Sarah. Which ofc Hollywood had to fuck up aswell with Genisys.
@@jayluck8047 you'll never see her because she will be too fast now that she has wheels
Watching this in 2019 has a pretty scary chilling factor to it. Seeing this 30 years ago in a theater would have been terrifying.
Every year here in Brazil Cinemark made a classics week, Terminator, Rocky, Rambo and Die Hard always play, and I always goes.
If they just re-release this movies with a massive ad campaign will be the best movie in years.
I watched this in a theater in West L.A. on opening night; I was 13, and had talked/begged my mother & sister into seeing this rather than "Stop Making Sense" (the Talking Heads concert film). It blew our minds!
@@Gilliganfrog Same for me, though I was 15, and in Santa Clarita. Tuesday nights used to be $1 movie night so we went then. We were blown away. It was the most amazing thing any of us had ever seen. It's all we talked about at school for a month.
@@syphiliticmindgaming7465: right on, bro
Fuck I wish I could have seen this original release in theaters.
I love this scene, even though the Lieutenant's advice is sound, he actually turns Sarah into a target! I love the way the music also turns into a haze as the Terminator searches the crowd...
He probably didn’t know who he was dealing with!
40 years old and it still a masterpiece movie.. outmatches any sci fi to this day!!
When terminator had a thriller concept to it, like it should. All action and cheesy lines now.
Right!?! Genesys was basically a Superhero film. When Arnie flew into the helicopter....🤦🏻♂️ Sheesh.
Like all movies, they always try make them available for all audiences. Id like a studio with the balls to say 'Fuck money we make billions a year, lets for once make an 18+ masterpiece like the good ol days"
Practical effects also make things look better. 5:15 "hmmmm how are we going to make the flames cpu are not good enough yet...... fuck it lets light the stuntman on fire we're paying him a lot of money'
And also you say all cheesy lines and action and its true.
This movie is an action, thriller, sci fi, horror and romance movie all in one. No shit comedy needed.
@10NA89
Yeah, it happened the same thing with Resident Evil videogames.
10NA89 what about T2 tho?
One of the best movie scenes ever.
"come with me if you want to live"
Yes
My favorite action sequence of all time. Mood, tension and action. Hasn't been equaled yet. Prove me wrong.
6 reasons why I love partying at Tech Noir:
1. It's on a great street w/ plenty else to do, even after you're wasted.
2. Great music.
3. You can get in without paying the cover charge.
4. They will replace your Canada Dry if you accidentally knock it over.
5. You get to meet a really great, lively and diverse crowd!
6. A great place to go if you really wanna live!!
2:00 It wasnt John Conner who saved the future, it was Canada Dry Ginger Ale.

Can you imagine 2:07 how funny it would be if the terminator started dancing with everyone else on the dance floor lol.

LOL 🤣
No
Lol if it actually did that and just stayed patient i think it would have succeeded the mission. Reese wouldn’t have seen it coming.
Compared with the torrent, derivative, and throwaway films of the current and recent sci-fi/action genre, this film not only still holds fascination and interest, but challenges and surpasses many contemporary films of this genre. The writing, pacing, story, execution, and overall presentation is commendable. Please don't appreciate what is given, recognize what the thing is, whether be it good or bad, then appreciate the good and if you prefer, the bad.
The Face expression from Arnold is damm creepy
U see how dangerous he is
He could be a great villain in any movie other than being a hero...
Except for the meathead bouncer-everyone's survival instinct wisely gets out of his way as he makes his way through the crowd. He really played off the role of the killing machine mission obsessed and paying little heed to anything else. He breaks the bouncer's hand more or less as an annoyance and afterthought-efficiency in it's most cold form.
1:46 😠
