Have you ever been to Scotland? Is it on your bucket list? Remember to layer up and bring a brolly! It was really cold when I arrived on Friday. Then blustery, foggy. Then the sun came out, it rained hard during the night. And then repeat! LOL! A bit like Danish weather. I always make sure to pack lots of layers... 😁
Layers is always my advise too 😂
My son & grandson flew over from Scotland last week. They laughed when we said it was getting cold.🇦🇺😊♥️👋Love to your Mum.
Hubby's family 5 generations back is Scottish. I have always wanted to visit! My mum visited Edinburgh when she was younger on her round the world trip in her 20s! I have a lovely friend Charlie from Dundee and his sister Cathy still lives there I believe. Glad to see you're getting some beautiful Spring sunshine in Copenhagen and lovely to hear that your trip to Scotland to see mum & visiting your school friend was enjoyable! Those special times visiting with family and friends are so enriching and uplifting and definitely very comforting hygge moments and memories! 🥳🙌💓

I love Scotland! I have been twice and plan on visiting again. I want to go much further north next time. And hopefully to visit Uphall, where my Grandfather was born.
I have experienced a heat wave on my first visit and then 5°C on my second. Hoping for a winter visit, maybe New years in Edinburgh.
Thank you for your encouragement Diane. I'm currently on maternity leave with my third child, 3.5 months old, my other two are in school and preschool. I'm enjoying my cup of coffee while I wait for my clothes wash to finish so I can hang it up. Daily routines are keeping me on top and helping me not to burn out. I love your content. Thank you ❤❤❤

BIG reader here. Always have been. I read a variety of fiction and nonfiction and always have 2-3 books going. Hubby doesn’t like to read. Now that we live in 700 sq feet I had to get rid of hundreds of books but did keep a few absolute favorites. “Books are our friends!”

It’s fun when you can get together with friends you haven’t seen in years. Friends I hadn’t seen in 30 years drove through last week, we had lunch.
I so enjoyed seeing pictures of your trip to Scotland. Your mother is lovely and I’m sure she enjoys your visits. ❤ I just finished reading Lessons in Chemistry and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hubby and I keep some of our very favorite books on our shelves, but for the most part, we read and then pass along. Thanks again, for a great video Diane, and Happy Mother’s Day to you.

I just got back from visiting my Mom in Canada for her birthday week. It is a blessing to be able to spend time with our Moms isn't it? Especially as they get older we cannot take it for granted. And no, I have never been to Scotland but it is definitely on my bucket list as according to Ancestry I am 60% Scottish :)

Aw your mum is so sweet! I love that you take the time to visit and take her out that's so lovely and you can tell she loves being with you 😊 And then you return home and your kids take you out that is so cute. ❤
How lovely to have a catch up with your friend. It’s so easy to talk to someone when you’ve got so much history together. I met my oldest friend not long before we were four when she moved in over the road. We’re now sixty one and still keep in touch and meet up when we can.
Today I had to run by the store to grab some chicken and while there I saw ice cream cones that were pink on top. I was like oh that looks neat. And then I looked and they were roses. So pretty. Pink rose🌹 ice cream cones. So I bought them for us to have a yummy treat 💝

I have a friend for similar length of time, since kindergarten. ❤ I've been to Scotland twice -- and enjoyed both visits.
Sounds like a fantastic visit. I love elderflower too. There used to be a sparkling water flavored with elderflower. Simplu lovely.
Je suis allée en voiture ( Ferry Calais-Douvres) en Ecosse en 1990. Je rêvais de voir les Highlands. Je venais surtout pour voir les paysages et j'ai surtout roulé.Ai campé à Inverness. Sur un camping-car venu de Yougoslavie j'ai vu ,écrit ,
" Nessie , don't smile, were are coming ! " 😂😂. On est allés voir le Loch Ness et longé d'autres Loch.Fort William jusqu'à Kyle of Lochalsh où j'ai vu un policier monté à cheval avec un uniforme rouge comme au Canada .Et des moutons à tête noire...Et Glen Affric,le Nirvana des randonneurs❤

I was up on the Scottish border in 1984. Beautiful. I used to make my dad’s fav chicken croquets years and years ago. It was a once a week thing using up the week
y roast chicken bits. I am shrinking like your mum. Had to get a size down again and will prob have to refresh this fall.
I haven’t been to Scotland since 1971. Went with a friend, we had just graduated from nursing school, she had relatives in Motherwell so we were gone for a month. Stayed with her Aunt and Uncle Charlie made the tea so strong every morning I had to start adding milk to mine or I would have developed an ulcer. I’ve got Scottish heritage so it was a wonderful trip. Loved Edinburgh but Glasgow I found dark and gloomy.
I live in Canada and our Walmarts were advertising English treats and one was the Flake bars. Haven’t had one in so many years but unfortunately I couldn’t find any.
I’m long overdue for another trip.

It's so nice to see your Mum's smiling face. She lights up a room and always looks so elegant. You must take after her. The book, Death and Croissants is on my list to read. I am like you when it comes to books. I prefer to get all my books from the library so I can read them and return them. I keep very few, just a couple of inspirational ones that I reread yearly and a few of my childhood books. I don't like to have too many books piled up, either. My husband is the opposite. He likes to keep all his books and has piles and piles waiting to be read. Thankfully he also uses the library or our house would sink into the ground under the weight of all his books. Hi Diane, Hi @annmatheson4533 my Falkirk sister! 💖 My stop was always Falkirk Polmont :) I was born & raised in Falkirk & lived there until I met my American Husband. :) Family is still in the area, so we get to go back every few years. Thanks for the video Diane. So good to see your mom doing so well & the updates on all the goodies! I'd completely forgotten about macaroons, those were a favorite of mine too. So. Good. So. Addictive!😃😍🥰

Been to Edinburgh and Glasgow when are boys were in High school. Loved it! Especially the castle in Edinburgh. The dog cemetery really pulled at my heart strings! 🐶❤️

They’re slowly building a rail line here in Florida. It takes 8 hours to get out of the state by car!

Thanks for another fun video! Really loved seeing the Edingurgh to Glasgow train ride as the countryside is so beautiful. I was in Glasgow in the Kelvingrove area just last summer but didn't know about the Ox and Finch! Returning next summer so will try it myself. God Mor to you and all moms everywhere!

Happy Mother's Day for Sunday. My children usually forget, they have wives & grandchildren so I have learnt over the years the focus has shifted.
When I was shopping I found a $4 pot with a chrythanthumum. I picked a rust colour, because I still have a tiny hope one day I will get the white ones given to me. Today I am dusting because I vaccumed & mopped the house. Love & good wishes to all 🇦🇺😊♥️👋
I visited Scotland in my teens and felt right at home. I swear I was Scottish in another life!
My Dear Father passed first week in April so It has been a rough go but getting my footing back and looking forward to back on track❤

There are so many places I’d like to visit! Australia seems so far from everywhere! I’d really like to visit Denmark 😍 🇩🇰 in Aust you can be on a train for 3 days and still be in the same country (although that does include some stopovers), Perth to Sydney is a 4,352km train trip. Glad your mum is still enjoying life in her 80s, my mum loves life and is 80 in Nov.

I've been decluttering books for the last couple of months and letting go of books that I loved but have re-read enough times! I've even reduced cookbooks which was so hard but also realized I'm not even using them. Still have a shelf of books to read but utilize the local library which is part of a connected/network to all the other boroughs so you can get books from another town sent to your local library.
Happily still finding items to declutter, clothes clean out last week which went really well. Still surprises me that you can either find items or that once removed you don't miss them! What is great is that some zones have literally nothing left to declutter so I just go into another area/draw/closet/pantry and find something as I tidy it up. Not sure if you have these but during the warmer months our borough allows garage sales 3 x during the warmer months. I do my best to stay away 😉but they are fun to have a peak!

Well done on decluttering books, Dove and Olive! We also decluttered a lot of Mum's books - mostly cookery books and dictionaries/anagram/crossword helpers! LOL! I'll show them in Monday's video.

Aye ! I’ve lived in Scotland for 5 years. In Ayrshire, the wee town of Largs. I loved it there, Scottish people are very welcoming ! I went back to France in 2010 but it has a special place in my heart. And Haggis, neeps and tatties and the best dish ever ! 😍

I'm glad to hear you mention P.G. Wodehouse - I absolutely love his books. I live in small town Canada and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with my local library; whenever I hear of a book I might like, they never ever have it! So I tend to try and buy them second hand, and I'm afraid I'm a book hoarder. (I do go through them about once a year and try to let some of them go.)
That's very special to still be friends with someone from the age of 5 - I met my oldest friend when we started secondary school at 12 and we are now almost 63.
Hi Diane, I’ve tried both of those gins ( several times😛) you must try the Pomegranate &Rose bottle they do…..it’s like drinking a Cadbury’s Turkish Delight …..delicious. As for macaroon bars…they are very very easy to make …they are made with cold potatoes….lovely to see your mum looking so youthful and healthy ❤️👍❤️
Now you've got me intrigued about the "turkish delight" gin...I saw the pomegranate one at the airport but not a fan of pomegranate so I skipped it. Must try next visit! Thanks!

My husband plans to cycle through Scotland next year, that’s too much for me, but maybe, if I enjoy his pictures, I become infected … so nice to see you and mum enjoying your life and meeting. It’s a pity, but our libraries are not as good as yours, so if I want to follow a series, I’ve to buy some of them. I’ve a good solid amount of Agatha Christie and Louise Penny from Canada. And a lot of other books… but I’ve decided to go through them and keep only my 'besties' and let others enjoy the other ones. Love, Monika❣

I visited Edinburgh in 1977. It was a side trip from a London theatre tour I took my freshman year in college. My ancestors roots go back to Scotland and Tyrone, Ireland. My mom's mom's dad immigrated to the USA. My mom's 92 years old and legally deaf with a cochlear implant. I'm living with her in Michigan. I moved my possessions up here from Ohio. My dad passed away on December 17 2020. They were married on December 20, 1952. My mom has a lot of "collections". They "inherited" items from my dad's side of the family and my mom's side of the family. A lot of it is vintage items. There are so many items she doesn't use, but she won't let them go. She was born during the Depression and her father was a pastor, so they moved a lot. My mom told me that she had to leave behind a lot of her possessions. She uses chipped dishes and potholders that are holey and burnt. She has a "ton" of coffee mugs. It's very difficult for me to find "homes" for my items that were moved up here. Suggestions on trying to make her understand that she doesn't have to "hoard" duplicates and "inherited" items?

I wouldn’t call myself a hoarder but I do like to keep my books, particularly my collection of Georgette Heyer books, as I reread those sometimes. As for my routine, it’s gone by the wayside this week as I’ve hurt my knee and cant walk very far at the moment, so I’ll have some catching up to do. Scottish Macaroon bars 😍. My absolute favourite, but impossible to find here in Northern Ireland. I tried to find some in Scotland when I was there last Summer but couldn't find them anywhere

Gaelic names all the way up the A9 and not just in Glasgow. They are everywhere these days. Lovely to see you in Glasgow which is where I am. Ox and finch is just along the road from where I work. Lovely blog as always and enjoyed seeing your Mum. She is marvellous x
