This first public presentation of the new 3 Series will be followed by the global market launch of the car from 9 March 2019. The BMW 3 Series Sedan has been produced at BMW Plant Munich from its first generation. The company’s “home” factory is also the birthplace for the new edition of the model. But in keeping with the strategic guideline dictating that production follows the market, another two facilities have been added to the line-up. All of which means production of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan for the Chinese market will take place at the Tiexi plant in Shenyang run by the joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA), where the outgoing 3 Series Sedan has been made. And in 2019 the newly constructed BMW Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico will also join the fray. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
My brother was a programmer for places like this. He showed me how crazy difficult it is to get the robots to execute this same thing. He was wanted by a Japanese company to create the program for the robots in a car factory but he did not take the job because of having to take his kids out of school at the time. I toured a bit of a factory in Detroit and its amazing how the robots move and nothing catches fire. This site is great! Thanks for showing how it's made.
These robots are incredible I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to program and create them.
programming them is relatively easy. the art is to make them produce one car in under 60s
There are many robotic companies out there that will custom make you a robot that can manufacture most anything, with very few limitations. Soon the process will be one hundred percent automated, except for some items related to paint and finish. The only real limitation is cost.
Programming them is actually not that difficult. For people out there that already have some type of computer certification; chances are - this is actually easier to learn.
the issue is getting them to actually know what they're doing
move to position x,y,z at command 1 2 3 is childs play
welding is just position change at certain velocities while making sure the weld is happening
connection hoses etc is an issue
with electric vehicles however it seems as you could have a central harness with the connections stationary and get plug connections to happen
hoses, hydraulic are likely more difficult and tiny ones found in windshield wipers are likely a pain as well for a robot
but the list is only going to grow shorter
ABB uses IRC5 controllers and Robot Studio for offline programing, both are not that difficult to learn
Ronald C Krause Jr Assembly will probably never be automated completely. Also paintshops are mostly automated. You should visit a car factory ;)

I work as a mechanical engineer, designing fixtures that are finally e.g. used during the welding of the chassis, so interesting to see the stuff being used finally after spend ing so many hours with it in CAD on the computer ;-)
Love manufacturing and production videos. reminds me of my old aerospace manufacturing engineering days. Now I enjoy making car DIY videos and making my own products for Porsches.
I noticed a lot more detail in quality control from the beginning to the finished product. Good robot engineering and assembly utilization. Excellent video.

Stas Como estas It is fascinating. Sad part about the production of these new cars is where some wind up 10 or years from now. All that work put into those cars when it’s likely some will end up in a falling apart in someone’s garage or on a used car lot.

I am convinced now that the gift of knowing how to build all of this was given to us by other life in the universe and it became up to us to pass the knowledge on and advance it. @@alexandercrush Even Q60 looks better than M4:-) Well, 80k cars are CLS AMG53 and BMW 640i grand coupe. I bet the new 6 series will look fine, due to the current model had the best BMW design. Oh,wait, wiki says 6 is no longer "grad coupe", but 5 "grand turismo". And it seems 6 grad coupe is now 2020 8 gran coupe... Probably we won't see a good design in 80k range ... OK. I agree, there is nothing better, just don't like the high-gloss shadow line. Cheap bastards, Germans don't give chrome with the sport packages anymore and only expensive/real AMG models got the chrome line (same as the Porsche turbo models only). Actually Mercedes moves chrome and grills around the cars like a sharper and only S-class gets everything.

Yeah, but I mean compared to other factories, BMW is much cleaner. The floor looks fresh and all the machines look brand new.
Bentley`s factory is even better, everyone wears white coats, if they get just a little black spot, they have to change.

I live like 1km away from that plant and work in automotive fields as an engineer. It's nice to see how the final product turns out, while you look basicalliy 40h/week on your PC monitor and see only CAD files. :)
