Pikachu is really fun in project plus, but he's also really difficult because in some matchups characters can combo him really easily, and the overall range buff across the cast in comparison to melee makes Pikachu work a little bit harder, but under the hands of really good players, Pikachu can make top eight

Loved this video. Pikachu is one of those characters, when you see him, it’s not gonna be too annoying to fight against. Compared to the higher tiered characters, Pikachu feels cooler to see in a tournament, because it is so uncommon. Being balanced though makes it at least to where you barely have to apply buffs or nerfs. Good stuff, Honest!
Melee Pikachu is the closest thing Melee has to a balanced character with enough spice and clear weaknesses. I would say is the worst High tier in the format and kinda carried by Axe, but not unviable by any means. If I were to rebalance Melee, I would use the Yoshi/Pikachu criteria.
5:01 Sheik is not really even Pikachu's top 2 worst matchups, the chaingrab only goes to like 29% which is still a decent amount but people always act like it goes to 60%+ or something, and Pikachu has a very real punish game on her. Still a hard matchup for sure, but far from a true viability blocker.

At least he never got done dirty like other characters, though i heard that Smash 64 Pikachu is pretty annoying to fight against and in Ultimate there's so little players maining him due to him being "lame".
ehhh thats a bit of stretch. You can argue most of the top tiers are going to have better wavedashes then him. Ice Climbers, Marth, Fox, Falcon just to name a few. Pika's dash dance is okay, but his wave dash is lacking a bit compared to the other top tiers too.
Fun fact: despite Pikachu being a high tier character in Melee, it’s considered its worst placing in the series
