  • Hello Explorers! Today's video is a little negative, but I had a few things to get off my chest that I wanted to chat to you all about. Post Travel Depression might seem like a silly thing to have when you've spent six months travelling round the world, but, I think I am experiencing it. Hope to see you on Thursday with a new video.

    -- FAQ --
    1. What camera do you use?
I use a Canon Powershot SX700HS and a GoPro Entry level.
    2. Where do you get your music from?
Soundcloud and CZcams Audio Library are the two places where I source creative commons licensed music. I include a link to the content creator in the video description, but sometimes I do forget.
    3. How much have you spent on your round the world trip so far?
This is continuously changing as I travel, when I finish my trip I will be revealing how much I spent and what areas cost me the most.
    4. Will you create videos after your round the world trip?
Yes! Wherever I end up, be it back home in Yorkshire, England or another country, I will be uploading videos of my travels and exploring. Obviously, this might not be as regular as I upload now, but, new content will be uploading weekly.
    5. What software do you use to edit your videos?
I use Adobe Premiere Pro, and occasionally, Adobe After Effects. I am still learning, but find it easier to use than other software.

The post travel depression is real. Even though i was gone for only a month i feel it is difficult to get home to the negativity and the usual boring surroundings. The good thing though that we travelers need to remember is that it`s not going to last forever. Next trip is around the corner so hang in there!
Liking that you share the reality of it all. Not many travel vlog channels do that. So i give you a thumbs up as always and waiting for your next video :)

The NerdyExplorer thanks for the support! I've been surprised how how my family have reacted to me travelling round the world, and being a freelancer. I was hoping that they would love to hear my stories, but, they are so wrapped up in their life, understandably. My mum and step dad though sat through 7 hours of videos and watch everyone with me, Hah.

ExploreList Yeah people are busy with their own lifes and problems. The only thing we can do is to just accept that we can`t change family and see past the negative and think about the positive :) Good they watched everything with you hehe. 7 hours is a lot hehe

This video has helped me get over that. Thanks

I spent a month in Japan and had done it 3 years in a row. can't wait till I can do it again! I get depressed when I think about what if I can't go back but, know before my life ends I will go back again. I love it there. These vids and info you give use is not negative just informative. I wish you all the best and so look forward to your future vlogs and info.

Queenbooker I was in Tokyo for one month. returned home 3 weeks ago. Miss it so badly already. If you want to see how my trip went check out my channel :) i have a lot of vlogs from there and still uploading new videos every week. Japan is an amazing country

Queenbooker thanks for the support. I see a lot of CZcamsrs say that they don't mention negative things about their life or the world in their videos because people come to be entertained, but, that's fake in my eyes, people need to see both sides especially if I am inspiring people to make changes to their life, or, to travel round the word. Hope you get back to Japan soon, I'd love to go one day.

Thanks for making the video man. I have an online job which gives me freedom. When I came back from Japan with my wife I fell into a huge depression. It's just the way we feel. And thanks for sharing it.

Thank you for watching and sharing your experiences. It was hard, but you get through it and try and focus on the positives and do what you enjoy in life :)

  • @danielintheantipodes6741

Hello Darren. Honestly, it isn't weird at all. It is normal to experience so depression after a return to normality, the more so if the alternative experience has been beyond brilliant. I have just looked at the date of this video and it was August 15, so I suspect you are fine by now! Still, I thought I would send this post regardless, because it seemed that you were being hard on yourself. Personally, after I return from a holiday I feel quite exhilirated at first, but after a week, mundane reality sets in and I find sadness upon me. It lingers for a while before I shake it off.
I am enjoying your videos. I have just discovered your channel. Very enjoyable. I think I would prefer two three month trips than one six month trip.
And I have just noticed that there is an absolutely amazing number of CZcams videos about post-travel depression!

+Daniel Hammond When I go back home this time (next week) my outlook will be completely different. This time I've only been away for four months, whereas my six month trip earlier last year. I did assume that everyone would be welcoming and excited about me returning but in reality, they were just busy living their lives when I turned up.

it's too bad I only found your channel today! I can see you were in Poland a month ago. If I knew it would be great to come meet you and say hi to you 🙂
I totally relate to what you said here. I appreciate having great friends around but sometimes deeper understanding has to be substituted by fellow youtubers 🙂
    Good luck to you Sir!

Totally understandable, the depression and being aware of other people's negativity. It can be hard. You are doing the right thing. You have a worldly perspective, and you are so independent, it's hard to go back. You have such a lot going for you and you deserve the best of everything! :) x

      @remotedarren  Před 9 lety

Karen Strunks thanks Karen for the nice comment. You are right about negativity though, and I remember reading a blog post about trying to keep away from people who are 100% negative, i do believe that those people bring you down to their level, and then you cannot achieve anything in life because you are always looking at the negatives.

Glad you found the information useful and yes, it's hard, but you will get through it. Just think of something else that you can get passionate about and you'll quickly get back to the normal surroundings, or do what I did, find a remote working job online and continue to travel.

An important message! I never expected to feel so down once the first week at home passed, and more backpackers should speak out about this. Makes me feel less alone :) Enjoy your future travels and the adventure that home brings!

I can identify with this. I didn't travel, but after I finished my bike ride last year in October I fell into a bit of depression because I knew winter was coming on and I wouldn't be able to ride my bike and be free.

ExploreList Darren, You are a very Talented Writer, Photographer, and Videographer. Your video editing skills continue to improve. I can see So Many Many possibilities for you in the future! It all depends on what you are most passionate about, and what you enjoy doing most, and the direction you choose to focus your talents and energy. I have no doubt that you will be very successful in which ever path you choose. It may seem like a let down now that your RTW Trip is over but you are just getting started! Those of us who have followed your videos since the beginning can see it, but we have the luxury of distance. Those close to you may not be able to see it, so be patient with them.
It would not surprise me at all to walk in to a bookstore and see your book on the shelf some day - if that is the path you choose.
Enjoy relaxing with your family and your time at home because you have a lot of hard work ahead.

Yup. I warned you about the farsickness. And that while you have changed, seen and done new things, you come back to people whose lives are just the same as they were 6 months ago. Also you scare these people, talking of freelancing, and travelling and not conforming to the Work, Watch, Spend Treadmill. I wished I had known about this malady because I really wondered what was wrong with me. Just back from a short trip (5 weeks in Oz) and tomorrow getting the house valued and jumping of that treadmill. Although to be honest I jumped off it a long time ago and shaped my work life how I wanted to, to some extent. And yes, having things to look forward to and learning new things, helps. Blogging really helps me. Perhaps I need a You Tube Channel? Have fun and maybe I will meet you on the road less travelled?

Coral Musgrave You were right, and to be honest, I didn't take you seriously. I've noticed that when I start to talk about my trip, people aren't interested in really listening, and aren't really bothered about what I got up to, they are so wrapped up in their own lives, which is understandable. Good that you are making changes too, and yes, why not create a CZcams channel. I find it much easier to talk to a camera than I do sat down writing, although i enjoy both.

DirtyGrinch make changes, it'll not be easy, but if I can do it, anyone can. Have a goal, then work out a plan to achieve it, and off you go. What kinda work do you do for a living?
