To protect your fingers you can make a guard by wrapping you finger in a layer of sticky side out masking tape then taping subsequent layers sticky side in.
That would also work well. I have been handling blades for so long I know how much pressure to use. But for someone newer to the hobby, that would be a great way to protect their figures. Thanks for watching and posting.
Great video! I'm planning on attempting your methodology so I don't have to worry about the tails breaking off at some point. I have just one question, what size drill bit did you use with your pen vise?

If I might suggest instead of drilling the tail, which is very tiny, is to simply remove a portion of the tail maybe 1mm and glue the magnet directly to the flat area of the tail then use the black sharpie to color the silver magnet so you don't see it. That takes out that 2nd tedious drilling step with a similar result.
