Thanks so much for explaining the tools. Especially the Japanese knife. Never understood that one! Really looking forward to the sharpening video.

Enjoying this series Laura! Should you ever have time and opportunity, I'd love to see a small woodblock demonstration. TFS!!

Starving Artists Collective if I could fund it I would, but these lino ones are all I can afford - like many artists, I’ve taken a huge hit

Thank you Laura. I’ve done a series of that I completed this evening. I hope to show the prints sometime this year if we make it to the other side of our current lock down. I’ve watched just about all your videos and they’ve been helpful, especially the ones on registration.

Hello Laura, It looks as if we will have at least another three weeks of isolation, and I would very much appreciate a series on Japanese woodblock for several reasons, one is that you are one of the leading exponents of the craft, and another is geography; short of you coming to WYPW in Mirfield for an advanced workshop, or you offering a course in the deep south (travelling, accommodation, timing) it isn't very likely I'll be able to meet you face to face, so could you consider it? Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick, we have thought about it, but it isn’t viable sadly. These lino films are my gift to everyone in this crisis, but my art is our family income and, as this goes on, I need to focus on stuff to sell when finally I can show, galleries re-open and I can go back to paid teaching. These films are fun to do, it’s a delight to hear positive comments and I’d love to go on with them into Japanese woodblock, but they take up a lot of time and I can’t afford to go on with it beyond this series. If I figure out funding, of course I’ll do it :)

Thanks for sharing your tool collection. I have the Abig tool and two Essdee knives which have a plastic handle. They do the job for the moment, but if I will do more lino cutting I might invest in better tools - I had my eye on the Pfeil ones, but they are currently unavailable and they are not cheap. I guess with the blades for the cheap ones you just buy new blades instead of sharpening those.

Is it possible to sharpen the abig art?!

You certainly can - it is a bit fiddly, I do my ones periodically. I would start by honing them on leather - it’s easier and may be all you need!
