- I present to you my 20022 Crochet Along - the WHOOPA CAL has now officially started! The full pattern is now available on Ravelry and on my website and here you have the first tutorial out of 10 - where I show you from start to finish how we make the first sleeve.
In this year's Crochet Along we will crochet my big cozy Whoopa cardigan together, and don't you worry, I'll be with you every step of the way! it's a 10 day CAL and I'll be doing daily video tutorials, where I break this fun and easy cardigan down into 10 parts and I'll crochet the cardigan along with you from start to finish! ... no need to do it in 10 days, but that is non the less a very manageable speed, I usually make mine in less than a week!
Now I know many of you shy away from making wearables, but then this here is definitely the place to start! It's all made in one piece and it's done in bulky yarn and on a 7 mm hook, so it works up crazy quick!
ok, are you you ready! who's with me!!!!? I for one am super psyched to get started!!!

I love hearing you counting in icelandic 😍
Haha well it’s just more natural isn’t it … to count in one’s native younger ❤️
I keep hearing sex fury
Coincidentally, my husband & I are on the 3rd season of "Trapped" (Entrapped), it was a bit of a wait since European series aren't yearly like Americans. We watch it in original Icelandic & just read the subs, we love Scandi noir & just for crochet, I learned to count in Icelandic, only until 20, though. lol So I count out loud & husband counts with me, no matter what part of the house he is. 😁 Thank you for sharing your amazing art (your blankets are dreamy!), love hearing you laugh & your exuberant, infectious humor! ❤
Found your pattern from Ravelry saying it was the most popular pattern of the YEAR! So exciting!
Your laugh is contagious 😂❤️🙏🏽
Can’t help smiling while watching this. Love your energy and spirit!!!
Thank you so much 🥰 I’m having fun on this end, hope you guys are too! ❤️
I can’t wait to get my yarn so I can make this beautiful cardigan !

Beautiful color nail polish, it compliments your skin tone perfectly.
Super excited!!! I actually JUST decided to join the CAL yesterday!!! I just finished my swatch. 9mm hook for me. But not sure what color yarn I want to use so now I must wait. I'm always late 😂🤣 Whoa.. all made in one piece.. in ten days!?!?! 🤯😲
Ahaha well I jumped the gun a bit, wasn’t supposed to publish it until tomorrow, but couldn’t wait any longer 😂 no stress to follow the CAL Ruth anyways, just go your own speed and have fun! ❤️
Very exciting!!!
This is always so fun. A lot of work for you Tinna, and I surely appreciate it! Haven't bought the pattern yet as I am short this month on funds but am making what you are making and I believe it will fit my daughter who is raising her brothers 2 children and she deserves a snuggly comfort cardi! Thanks so much! 😘

Perfect! And this one is so fun and quick to make! ❤️ happy hooking 😘
Sooooo exciting!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I knoooow!! ❤️😅🤸🏻♀️‼️❤️
Just placed my order for yarn this morning. I’m using Noro the Japanese hand dyed yarn. Hopefully it works out, because it was expensive and this my first wearable! I’m really excited. Btw I’m also making a blanket using your Thule pattern and it’s coming out great. It’s a deceptively complex pattern, but nothing too bad. Very clever design the way it loops around. ❤❤❤
Thank you Tinna
I´m so happy with this project 🙂🙃🙂🙃
i´m going buy the pattern in your website right now.
Hugs
Wonderful! Thank you ☺️
YAAAAY❣I'm so excited to make this cardigan. Hmm🤔.. I'll need this Cardi in 3 different colors 😉. Pattern and yarn shopping I go!

Ahaha well it was midnight in Iceland… so technically November 1st!! I couldn’t wait any longer 😅☺️
Have always wanted a cardigan like this. So excited. Just purchased the pattern. Can't wait to get started, though we are heading to summer here in Australia, so I guess there isn't that much of a rush. Have just ordered my yarn.
Hahaha just on your own time then 😉❤️
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar Yep, but I'll still be following your videos to make it.
Hi, I am new to your channel. You are not only doing great chrochet work, but also geniuss fotos. Love the combination and the pictures drew me to your channel. Thank you.
I'm going to try this out for myself, a large size (beautiful me!!) in white. Going to get the pattern and start with you and the group.
Perfect ❤️‼️
I will start tommorow, my yarn isn't here yet. It was a little difficult to find the right yarn in the Netherlands but i found one. Yes i could order from onother country but everywere the shops are in difficulty cause the problems in the world, so i wanted to support the shops overhere. So thank u for the great cal, i start one day later.
Ready when you are!! 😉❤️‼️
Sleeve all done whoop whoop 👐
Whoop whoop well done!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yey!!! Awesome
😉🤸🏻♀️❤️
I always LOVE your patterns and videos! So joyful and fun!
I did the longer sleeves and my gauge is on point; but it barely goes past my elbow if I set it at my shoulder. I’m nearly 6ft and have very long arms. So, I’m going to go ahead and add a few rows(4-6?) just to get it closer to my mid forearm in length. I know it will stretch a bit and there’s a cuff but it just seems very short for me. It would be so so helpful if you could add some clips of it sized up on the body. Like showing where the sleeve should fall at this point etc.
My husband is 6.3 ft and the longer sleeves ( 40 cm) fit him well! Don’t go by where it sits on your body, just go by the measurements. It’s supposed to be 35 cm short/ 40 cm long ❤️ if you’re is already 40 cm I wouldn’t add any more❤️
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar well, I am almost done with Day 2 already so we are gonna see how this turns out 😂 I do like my sleeves on cozy sweaters to cover my hands 🤷🏼♀️😬😉
Dear Tinna thank you for so many entertaining moments. I have learned soo much about crocheting from you. Thank you for this experimente.
I wish you and your family merry chrismas and a lot of luck for 2023.
Oooo ... unisex cardigan! Very nice! By the way, I didn't know the numbers in Icelandic were the same as Swedish. I was like, wait, am I hearing Swedish? I had to stop and make sure I wasn't mistaken about you being Icelandic ... lol. That's really cool. Language lessons along with the crochet. Very talented, indeed ;)
Woot Woot!!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️
Whoooopa‼️😅🤸🏻♀️
Thank you ❤
❤️❤️❤️
I have you on english captions. its hilarious when you start counting, especially around the 8 minute mark. For example number 38 comes out as sex of the onion.
My stitch gauge is good, but my row gauge is short, so I'm having to add some extra rows in, I also added an extra increase in the sleeve for a little more room, I figure as long as I measure often and account for the extra stitches I'll be okay. I didn't even realize you also designed the Montana wrap, I've got that on the go as well. :) apparently I just can't get enough of your designs. They're so beautiful though, all of them.
❤️🙏🏽😘
❤
Yay! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yay in deed!! Haha so excited 😅❤️‼️
wonderful, stay connected
❤️❤️❤️
My yarns in the post - itching for it to arrive but think I’ll be catching up at the weekend!
❤️❤️❤️
I’ve made about 30-50 cardigans,p (some of my own design), but it amazes me when someone designs a. 1 piece cardigan. I love the navy one. The yarn is lovely. I’d love it if you would design a cardigan with just a touch of mosaiic for those of us that want to learn it but don’t know. Where to start. Thank you.
Thank you ☺️
Tinna I love you❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hahaha crochet love! 😉😂❤️😘😘😘
I Will first buy the yarn and then i go make the whoopa cardigan ty, to show us here greets.
Yay!! ❤️🤸🏻♀️
I am a little confused about the increase in row 10. The pattern says, "2 HDC into the next ST" but in the video, it looks like you are doing only 1 increase at the beginning of the row (into the stitch we are not suppossed to go in to) I am following what you are doing in the video. Then, at the end of row 10, you do 2 HDC into one stitch. Is that correct? Is the written pattern not correct? I follow written instructions as well as watching, so I just wanted some clarification. I love the pattern and am having fun doing it!
The written pattern is correct … just I do it a tad differently in real life 😉 instead of doing the fox at the beginning of row, I’ll add the extra stitch there 😉 but just go by adding 1 at beginning and end of row ❤️
Looks like an interesting construction. Where I live doesn't get cold enough for such a sweater. Maybe I can make it in a thinner yarn.
You can, but then it will be smaller 😉❤️
So excited! Question for you, when you finish row 24 is that the top of the sleeve that you essentially put your hand into when putting it on? So by the shoulder.
Yes, that’s correct! … but like I explain, the sweater is big and slouchy, so this will not be up by your armpit, but lower down 😉 so don’t worry if you think it’s too short. Both that, and then we’ll add the ribbing plus the sleeves stretch a bit once in use … I show you the longer sleeve version at the beginning of the video for comparison ❤️
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar thank you for the clarification.❤️💜
Handsome model 😉
😅❤️
Oh I love this sweater, can't wait to start it. Tinna can I use a 4 worsted instead? I don't have any bulky yarn. Thanks
You can, but then it will be smaller ❤️😉
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar ok, I'll go buy some thicker yarn. Thank you
It's not really early, since it is November 1st at your house!! It's not November 1st at mine yet though. We all love you Tinna, but you KNOW that. I just figured you may need reminding! XXOO
You’re so sweet ❤️ thank you 🥰
Tinna, can you tell me which color/reference of Álafoss Lopi you use here ? It's looking so nice. I bought the n.9973, a light brown/cream one and l am so excited to start ! 🤩🤩🤩
It’s color no 1232 ❤️
I want to try this, but I need a 3x, how do I make that size.
Whoopa! I can't start yet cause the trick or treaters keep coming by 🎃.
😂😂😂 … this will be your treat later then 😉😅❤️
Time for a bowl of chocolate-covered Brussels Sprouts ...
Could you teach us how to count in Icelandic as well?😉
Ahaha …. I thought I was!! 😉😂😂❤️
Hi Tinna I've found exactly the right yarn I want to use but it only comes in dk, I just want to double check with you if I used 2 strands would it work up OK? Can't wait to get started
You can try that! Just do a swatch and see if you get the right gauge! ❤️
Hey Tinna! Thank you for the amazing CAL. I've bought the Álafosslopi wool here in the Netherlands and I've started with part 1 yesterday. I crochet quite even, but I'm noticing my work becomes kind of slanted to the left (braidside to the front). Why does this happen and how can I fix it?
Hmmm, not sure why this would be happening because we are working back and forth. But at any rate it should even itself out in blocking ❤️
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar Thank you!
I still come to count 1to may stichtes and than one to much
Ok @tinna we have 37 plus two we add at row10 for me is 39 but you say 40. Where we put +1?
You start with a total of 38, the 2 chains at beg of row count as 1 ST 😉
Alafoss lopi is available in so many colors! But, they are mostly all out of stock at woolwarehouse. Anyone know where might have a better selection of colors to purchase?
It’s a production thing at the fabric I think 🤷🏻♀️😣❤️
I am using worsted weight and a 6mm hook. I will need more rows to make the sleeve fit, how many more should I make??
Did you get a answer?
@@deborahjohnson7861 no. 😢 I gave up on no it, I couldn’t get the fit right.
I have a question ? On the second row are you going through both loops or just the front ?
Always just one loop.
Thank you for such a quick response!💗
I have finished my first sleeve, but the 24 rows are for me a t-shirt length and not a long sleeve 🤔 I'm using Lion Brand Heartland for 6 mm hook and I'm using a 7 mm hook. An my Gauge is 10 rows and 15 stitches 🤔 is this normal? I have to the minimum still 48 rows for having a long sleeve 🤔🤷♀️🤪 Thanks for helping me 🥰
Short sleeve should be 35 cm like I say in the video. Long = 40 cm
I made now 48 cm and I'm not really arrived til may hand 😜 but i stop there and i will see the rest with the ribbing
Do you include the chain 2 in the stitch count?
Here to echo what everyone else is saying. I'm finishing up part 4 right now. However... I wondered who the muy delicioso hombre is, modeling the cardigan? 🙂
Haha that’s my friend Krummi ❤️ he’s a brilliant musician too, look for him on CZcams and Spotify to see/hear for yourself 😘
What is the alternative yarn in Minute 4.20 ? In can't read it! She says Daily Whool or something else.... who knows it? Please give me an answer 🙏
I’m a lefty so will this work up the same?
Yes of course! Just change every left to right and right to left and your good!
Id love to make this but i cant find how much yarn i need for a 2 x?
It’s all listed in the pattern love! ❤️ you’ll find the link in the description above 😘
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar Ty 👍
what is the upper arm?
Really excited to be doing this! But regarding being a bad girl or boy for not working through the gauge swatch video, gender is not binary, some people are neither girls not boys. So statements like the one you made exclude people like me who are neither.
Hello dear Kit ❤️ I have been thinking about your comment. So, obviously I do not want to offend anyone, purposely or otherwise. I’ve watched the video again, to see what you were talking about, and the funny thing is that I was actually taking care adding “boy” there because I keep getting grief for excluding men … and still I didn’t get it right! Kinda wished I’d excluded men too now, that would have been better really 😉😅 but to be on point here, I am sorry that you felt excluded. That was not my intention ❤️ for future references to gender, it would be great to get pointers. So I should have said: bad girl, boy or person? Thanks in advance for your guidance and I hope you’re having fun with your WHOOPA! 😘😘😘
Also, should I not say that the pattern is unisex? Rather non binary? Fml I feel old 🤦🏻♀️🙈😉😂
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar hi Tinna, I appreciate your considered response ♥️
I get it, the yarn crafting world is slightly (maybe more than slightly) skewed towards women. I'm in a lot of crafting groups and there are a lot of posts directed to "ladies"... Which only serves to continue sexist thinking..... I often remind people they're not in a women only group, and quite often I'm shot down in flames.... Anyway, you can say whatever you want of course! But if you don't want to exclude anyone you could use language that just doesn't use gender.. So "bad crocheters", or just "people". Xxx
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar heh, I'm pretty sure I'm older than you, I'm 47! Unisex is fine as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't assume that everyone is either m or f.... Others might feel differently of course!!!
And yes thanks I'm enjoying the Whoopa, and the cat is enjoying the extra time I'm sitting still! The few amma squares and box of cotton yarn are not so happy though 😂
