Great video love the tips! One thing I personally enjoy is some on screen text or graphics. If you put some written text as you’re talking about a topic, it’s easier for me as a viewer to scroll through the video and re-watch certain portions or keep track of all the points you’re trying to teach.

Very good and useful tips with breakdown especially if you have a dedicated partner for tournaments and league play. Strategy is always a challenge in rec. play where you seldom play with the same person and many are not that receptive to being coached.

at 9:06, I think the term you're looking for is 'capitulate', meaning to yield or cease resisting...I use this to explain that point to newer players, especially banger types; there are times in a rally where you have to recognize that you're on defense and attacking is not the best strategy, instead dink/drop/reset into the kitchen and look for a quality opportunity to attack (or give your opponent a chance to make an unforced error). Right?

as always, great explanation! question on the dinking and covering of the middle: if you're in a cross court dink situation and the opponent decides to do a speed up...any tips on reacting faster for that speedup down the middle?
Hold forehand after each dink. If they speed up to your backhand it will go wide 👍

Really good information here. Good to know how not to irritate the higher skilled partner. I feel you could cover the shading and respecting the line coverage with some overhead court visuals as you explain a key term that I see someone else mentioning. Nothing complicated, go South park level tech. But I feel a missed a few important takeaways. And I suspect that could come in handy with more doubles tactics that I hope you keep providing. Anything to help thinking 3 steps ahead and get out of my normal spaz reactive mode. Thanks!

When you're hitting a standard volley in an exchange is your paddle slightly open? I know a counter or block volley is more closed just curious on your every day volley.
Good question. It is probably closer to 90 degrees because I am coming over the top of the ball and hitting topspin on majority of my volleys. If it’s a block volley it’s open at about 40 degrees. Punch volley it is slightly down at about 100 degrees

Question about the shading towards the ball - does that also apply to when the opponents are at the baseline and you’re at the kitchen?
Absolutely. Always shade (follow the ball). The reason you want to even when they’re at the baseline is because if you don’t they’ll easily get into the kitchen but going to the open spot on the court cause someone wasn’t covering it.
A lot of the time they can hit winners at higher levels because someone wants shading properly and left the line open.
The goal with shading is to make your opponents hit the hardest shot. So hardest angle is what you want to leave open.

What is the odd and even side? Hearing this for the first time and I watched hundreds of Pickleball videos
Odd side is the left side of the court, even side is the right side of the court (where you start serving on each side out). Hope that helps!
It comes more so from singles. In singles, you’ll always be serving from a certain side of the court, based on whether your score is even or odd. It doesn’t quite work that way in doubles though.
Usually double Pickleball starts at 002, at the time the first server’s position is at the right side of the court. when the first server of the game won this point, the server switches to the left, so the score is 102, 1 is odd number, so the left side is called odd side too. If this first server win this point, then he/she switches their positions again, the server is back to the right side of the court, at this point the score is 202, 2 is even number, so the right side is called even side too, and like this goes on and on, so when the first server severs at left side his/her score must be odd number 3,5,7,9,11, of course at right side, the score must be even number, 4,6,8,10, that’s why the referee will give a wrist band to the first server of each team, at the beginning of the game, to identify who is the first server during the game, not confusing, so the referee makes right calls and records the correct scores. Hope that helps.
Put it another way, from opponent's hitting point, drawing two straight lines of board line shots. The two lines making an angle, each player covers about half of that angle with partner further from the hitting point covers a little more because that player has more time to react.

Pretty good video, though I'm not sure you had to spend that much time convincing us about the advantages of being up at the kitchen line.
You’d be surprised at how many people need convincing. I can tell you are higher level!
hi again, why is it that some PB teachers on youtube advise against "slowing the game down" when it comes to bangers? you are one that says slow it down; others have a different approach and it seems kind of psychological. they say that you have to hit hard back at them to give the the message that you can handle their hard shots. any thoughts on this? i'm thinking it has to be a combination of slow and hard shots. so it comes down to shot selection. i've certainly had days where my dinks and drops were clicking, and that seemed to befuddle bangers quite a bit. but other days, not so much.

Rec players often don't understand that slowing the game down doesn't mean dead dinks. Spin on well placed dinks and drops is a must for advanced play. A flat volley may challenge some when keeping opponents back, but utilizing that topspin volley puts real pressure on them.

just an opinion, but I kind of dislike the idea of calling it poaching because of it's negative connotation. Obviously you want to do this judiciously but in my mind there is no my partner side vs. my side of the court, it's ours and we make the plays that are best for the team.
Maybe this is less an issue when playing with an established partner vs. a pickup / rec game.

I think this content is excellent. However, I think you will lose people by using too many Pickleball specific terms like odd, even, down the line, etc.
I realize that Pickleball “students” of the game should know these terms. But for many players, you’re talking so quickly with these terms and the visual reference goes by so quickly, that your primary message gets lost.
I know talking about this is second nature to you. But I think it will help for you to assume that your audience cannot process things as quickly as you can. Just my 2 cents.
