I was in school when this episode aired and it was 2 days before Thanksgiving. It was truly a black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving 1975 when Edge left CBS.
@@Edgeofnight80s please post the GH stuff too especially Rick/Lesley, Alan/Monica, Laura going bonkers after killing David Hamilton and Jeff searching for Steven Lars.
Kent Brooks, be sure to head over to my buddy Sharon Gabet's channel. She has some very rare shows from 1976-1978 that will be posted over the next 6 weeks on her channel exclusively. And I am hoping to have some new Edge episodes too from the missing 1981 period some time next month when I get a series of tapes from a former cast member.
@@alexisdiva9They tried, but they couldn’t explicitly mention that Edge was moving to ABC. That was one of the reasons why ratings dropped when Edge switched networks; another reason was that many ABC stations chose not to air the show at all in order to air more profitable local and/or syndicated programs in Edge’s place.
@@alexisdiva9 they may not have been able to... from what I've read, when Search for Tomorrow moved from CBS to NBC in 1982, CBS only allowed them to advertise that the show was changing networks, on the condition that they didn't explicitly name NBC as the network they were going to... knowing that, I'd be surprised if a similar gag rule wasn't in place when Edge of Night moved.
Wow--that Era commercial combines a voiceover by William Schallert with Mary Wickes, Nora Marlowe, and a very familiar looking actress I can't quite place--but all so well known for decades!
I'mma tune in so I can watch this with the sponsor spots.. Delicious! And I love P&G day where all the commercials are brands of the company that I mentioned!
Both programs were on CBS for more than two and half years. However, by the time it left that network in November 1975, it was their lowest rated daytime drama. Total mismanagement by both the sponsor (Proctor & Gamble) and the network which sunk a once top-rated series and sent it spiraling to the bottom of the ratings ladder.
Oh yes I’ve been saying that for years and wondering…..Apparently producer Nick Nicholson of edge of night was very familiar with dark shadows. Both shows Feature Director John Sedwick and Joel Crothers among a few others…
This one has been in fan circulation for decades. I don't have anymore that are not already on CZcams at the moment. At some point I plan on offering more 70s rarities not seen before that are on 1 inch c and 3/4 tape...but that's work in progress. They are expensive $$$ to convert.

P&G used to put stuff like glasses and dish towels in their laundry detergent powder - probably going all the way back to the Great Dépression in the '30s to create more value for buyers that listened to the radio serials they sponsored.
I guess this must have been something of a break for Lois Kibble, as she just had to lie the in a hospital bed, and didn't have to learn any lines for six weeks or so, while Geraldine was in the coma.
Between 1973 and 1974 was when soap operas in general stopped using organ backgrounds and themes and began using orchestral backgrounds and themes. I guess Proctor & Gamble, which sponsored and produced the lion’s share of soap operas back then, more or less made the unilateral decision to have that done across the board, so to speak…
Those P&G-produced soap operas on CBS (As The World Turns, Guiding Light, and The Edge of Night) were influenced by The Young and the Restless, a P&G-sponsored Sony-Bell-produced soap which themes and scores are already fully orchestrated, to switch the themes from organ music to full orchestrated music. Meanwhile, those P&G-produced soaps on NBC (Another World and Somerset) were also influenced by Days of Our Lives (Corday production; its first theme was orchestrated since then) and The Doctors (sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive; its theme music had been already in full orchestrated version from its inception) to switch their themes from organ music to full orchestrated music.
@@JozarS.-ol4fj …I would agree; but it is why I used the term ‘in general’. There’s no denying that DAYS OF OUR LIVES (1965) and THE DOCTORS (1963) definitely did not follow the musical trend that many other soap operas at the time were adhering to. I would even venture to say that LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING (1967) used orchestration for its first year, but let organist Eddie Layton take over from 1968 until the show’s end in 1973 - just about the time that orchestration was being used not only on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, but also SOMERSET and ANOTHER WORLD, as you pointed out. To dig back a little further into history, ABC’s ALL MY CHILDREN (1970) and ONE LIFE TO LIVE (1968) [both of which were sponsored not by P&G, but by CREATIVE HORIZONS] used orchestration from their beginnings until their endings…
Tiffany could have left Noel much earlier if he had not had flaunt his charm on her. She was too naive for that!!! Psycho Noel was the one who threw Geraldine down the stairs because he was so greedy!!!

Oh I was wondering when Edge left CBS. I was in school too at the time. I loved Edge and was happy when it continued on ABC.
My mom watched all of her “stories” as they called them back then. When I was 4 and this show came on, I knew it was time for my nap. 😂
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Thank you!!
These are gold. Thanks for posting. Luv the old general hospital stuff too from 70 s to early 80 s❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Steve, I have tons of GH material from the late 70s early 80s my favorite period for that show

The Edddge of Night!
I wish they had never stopped saying that!
Wow, from the final week on CBS!
Hopefully P&G had enough sense over the prior weeks to advertise regarding the upcoming move from CBS to ABC.

Used to be great after Match Game. They had the craziest criminals.
Love this, especially Lucy Martin! Thanks for posting.
A week before the controversial move to ABC, due to CBS expanding ATWT (1956-2010) to an hour, and so on. EON ended on 12/28/1984.
Surprised it lasted 9 more years on ABC. The last few years of the show were terrible, but before that the show remained solid.
I was really upset that it was cancelled. Was my fav soap ever. To see this is just awesome!

The Doctors was Colgate Palmolive. Most others were Proctor and Gamble. One may have even been Lever Bros.
@@brookehanley3659I saw a ds episode where Lever Brothers held 3 minutes of commercial time and I loved that!
The Edge of Night was great in the very early Eighties
Love it
After Match Game 75 at 3pm was Tattletales at 3:30 following Give & Take with Jim Lange at 4pm
This is my Mom go to soap back then. I was very young then.
More of these 1970's episodes, please!!
Sadly We don’t have anymore. At the moment…
During that episode, The Edge of Night was still on CBS even 2 years after the debut of The Young and the Restless.

Mike's Tie is mesmerizing me Louis Van Dine wouldn't have needed the video disco to brainwash Monticello if he had gone through Mike's old ties. 😂

That Comet commercial was something! The man pointedly asking questions to a woman who seemed a little frightened.
Oh..This was just three days Before the show left CBS

funny that Michael Stroka's character here is named Quentin when there was a Quentin on Dark Shadows.

What happened to ERA? I liked it

Yes. Those glasses lasted for years..lol
Yup. I remember that!
The recently deceased Alan Kalter on the voice over for zest
He did the voiceovers for USA Network in the 1980s/1990s. I know ABC-era EON reran on USA Network from 1985-1989.
Interesting to see Phoebe and Quentin chatting at the beginning here. Both characters would later be murdered by Dr. Clay Jordan.
Do you have the first ABC episode? I think it was a 90 minute episode
Yes it was, but cut back to 30 minutes some years later.
