- What’s fancier than a fennel recipe? Shrimp with fennel! Fennel sounds fancy, but it’s a super easy vegetable to use with a slightly different taste than all other vegetables. You can eat fennel cooked or raw, so it pairs well with quick-cooking seafood. If you’ve never tried fresh fennel before, this shrimp and fennel recipe is a great place to start.

Fennel Recipe with Shrimp
1 bulb of FENNEL
1 lb. SHRIMP peeled and deveined
1 small ONION sliced
15-20 sliced CHERRY TOMATOES
1 Tbsp TOMATO PASTE
½ cup to 1 cup WHITE WINE
1 Tbsp SMOKED PAPRIKA
SALT and PEPPER to taste
2 Tbsp OIL for cooking
FENNEL fronds for garnish
Get some peeled and de-veined shrimp. For this recipe, I like to buy medium-sized shrimp at the best price I can find.
Buy fennel with an unblemished bulb, or at least with a bulb that can be cleaned up easily with a peeler. The edible parts of fennel are the bulb and the dill-like fennel fronds. The stalks resemble celery, but are too chewy to enjoy.
Pull off some of the fennel fronds, wash, dry, and then chop them into a garnish for later. Wash the bulb and cut away any blemishes.
Thinly shave the bottom of the bulb away. Cut the bulb in half from top to bottom to reveal the core. Larger fennel will have thicker layers and a larger core. Make divots on either side of the core and cut it away and discard. Slice the fennel into larger, thin pieces.
Heat a skillet and oil on medium heat.
Add in the onion slices and cook for one minute, then add in the fennel slices and continue cooking another minute. Add in the smoked paprika, salt, and pepper and mix well, then add in the tomato paste and continue mixing.
Add in a little wine. Add in ½ cup to start, and then ¼ cup at a time as desired. Wine is great for this dish, but water is fine if you’d rather.
Add in sliced cherry tomatoes and shrimp, and then stir another 2-3 minutes or until the shrimp are opaque and cooked through.
I edited a lot of random talk out of this video to make it slightly less winded, but one thing I cut I'd like to mention is FENNEL SEEDS. I cook a lot with seeds 'cause they add so much flavor to a dish. Cumin, coriander, fennel, celery, and mustard seeds are probably the seeds I use most. I generally add seeds to a hot skillet and oil and let them cook a few moments before adding onion...it's a simple way to begin a dish and really punch up flavor. All that to say...add some seeds to your spices, and give fennel seeds a try. thanks for watching our recipe stuff, and have a great weekend, y'all!
Never tried fennel seeds before, thanks. Have a great weekend!
I like to cook a lot of Indian-style recipes and I'll often sneak fennel seeds into those dishes
@@ChefBuckRecipes Other than a plain chicken curry I have not tried making any Indian recipes. I will look for some on your channel. I was just looking at your french onion soup video, it's one of my favorite soups and I can't wait to try your recipe, looks better than restaurant.
What does fennel and bok choy taste like?
It is so good. I used mirin and vegetable broth, and added cumin and cayenne. Served on a mix of brown and black rice, topped with microgreens and fennel fronds. SO GOOD.
Hi Chef Buck! thanks for sharing this recipe, I am an Indonesian who never cooked this kind of veggie before, and today I just bought this fennel, in Nederlands we call it Venkel, I am curious how to cook it, then I stopped by your channel, I think this recipe is the best way to cook for me, looks like Asian dishes :D, love it!
I always wanted to try fennel. I’m definitely going to try this recipe. Thank you so much. For your cooking video It looks delicious…
This made THE MOST AMAZING dinner! Thank you Chef Buck and Camera Girl! Your recipes are THE BEST and so EASY to follow! Love your delivery! This channel ROCKS!
Nice dish CB , you’re the man.
thanks!--hope you're doing great
Chef Buck I’d bet your take on ‘sloppy joe’ is second to none.
Excellent!!! Tried it already two times - just great!
Looks fabulous
thanks!
simple but looks great.
First time I tasted fennel was in a recipe cod and fennel stew one of my favorites. Now got to try this shrimp dish. Thanks for video.
lots of fennel recipes seem to include seafood, it's a good pairing
@@ChefBuckRecipes You can say that again. Trying my luck growing fennel.
Just tried this recipe. Having fennel for the first time. Interesting taste, has a licorice kind of taste! totally unexpected! thanks of the recipe!
I love cooked fennel.... especially with onions and garlic... and even more so oven roasted. OMGosh... so good.
Have I ever roasted fennel?...I can't remember ever doing so...sounds like a great idea!--CG and I love to fill up a pan with chopped onion, parsnip, garlic, potato, etc., and roast it all up with oil and seasonings...fennel would be a nice flavor added in...definitely going to do that--thanks!
Hey looks simple and delicious. I hated fennel years ago now i actually like it. Definitely trying this one. Thanks
I was the same way--fennel does have a distinctive taste, for sure, which is why I like it now
Yum. I'm always looking for new dishes to use fennel. 👍
One of my favorite ways to use fennel is shaved thinly and paired with smoked salmon...goes great for breakfast served with eggs and toast
@@ChefBuckRecipes recipe please.
Looks good chef buck! Will try it...
hope you like it--thanks for checking the video out
Yes, thank you Chef Buck. That looks easy and 😋 delicious. Yum😊
for being a such a fancy looking dish, it cooks up lickety split...and the old "handful of spinach" trick fills up the plate
Thank you Chef Buck, this looks really delicious! I love fennel 101 💕
it just popped into my head that I bet my mom has never had fennel...I should buy her a bulb and make her watch this video, although she'd never eat a shrimp that wasn't breaded and deep fried.
@@ChefBuckRecipes 😀
Thanks CB I never know what to do with fennel so great video xx
This is a rare recipe where I use the entire bulb at once--we often use fennel raw as an accent in salads--goes great lightly shaved on canapes and crostini type things, especially paired with smoked salmon, sardines and capers
Trying this tonight!!
Thanks chef Buck & camera girl! Love you two!!!💜💕💜💕
I made this dish tonight! Amazing! Didn’t have any wine left, added water, and it was unbelievably tasty! Thank you for the wonderful recipe!
Watching this video in 2021, I bought a fennel today so was looking for a recipe. I love this dish fennel and shrimp. I will try it this weekend. Thanks
Awesome, delicious!!
The core is the best part of the fennel ..it's like the core of celery. In Italy we eliminate the outer shell of the fennel. Fennel is fantastic in salad or au- gratin in the oven too.
wha! :^)
Yaaassssssssss that looks so delish!! Another yummy dish, great job chef!!!
glad you like the look of it--hope you like the taste if you give it a go--thanks for checking the recipe out!
Great recipe! You crack me up😂
I just prepared this dish and it’s delicious 😋 thank you!!!!
I’m just introducing to my diet new vegetables like fennel I loved this recipe ❤
Love this!!
Definitely looks sooo delicious & tasty, over rice too ! Um Hmn !
I don't eat rice like I used to, but it's hard not to think of rice when shrimp is around
I’ve never had fennel before, but yesterday (Friday) I placed my second order ever with Misfits Market and happened to include both fennel and shrimp. It’s an interesting coincidence that today I just found you and this video on CZcams, so now I know what to do with them after they arrive on Monday!
Looks yummy
Thanks!
Love shrimp. Love fennel! Some crumbled feta on top couldn’t hurt. I Can’t wait to try this.
You are so funny! !! ...you have my LIKE.
glad you enjoyed the vid...thanks for watching and leaving the kind words
I really like your recipes & videos! You crack me up & camera girls face expressions are too funny! Have a great day and be safe!
thanks a lot...over the years I've slowly gotten CG more and more in front of the camera, which certainly helps :^)
Love that it's quick and delicious. Merci chef
This looks delicious. I will have to try it.
Looks delish!
and it's a super quick recipe to prepare if you buy shrimp that are already cleaned!
Wow that bottle of wine, I could snort up my left nostril. I have graduated on to boxes with faucets LOL.

Chef Buck 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻
Love ur channel! Tfs!
thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing your recipe
That looks delicious! I'd do a nice garlic baguette that, mmm!
Fennel, we got that growing in the back yard. This is a recipe we'll definitely be making sometime soon! But no do not let go of the the random talk.... not the random talk!!!!! Nooooooooo!
ha!--I sure don't hear that too often in person
looks hella good! oh yum!
I need to say "hella good" more often
looks good!
thanks!
Just did this - tasted good. I was wandering whether should add some garlic as well
I saw the shrimp and clicked. 😋😋
I have that condition, too
Chef Buck 🤣🤣🤣
Ohlala so good Tkhs
YUMMYYYYYYYYYYYYY
THANNNKYYYYYYYYY
Great video thanks hope y have more video’s in the future
thanks!--if I didn't make cooking videos, I'd probably have to do more yard work, so it's unlikely I'll stop making videos
Chef Buck yes know what you mean on yard work be looking forward you making video’s Be Safe
This may well be the fanciest, fancy-pants dish you've made to date! G'stuff!
You can put fennel on a pop tart and it'll seem fancier (except for the pop tarts that already have the colored sprinkles on top)
@@ChefBuckRecipes True... haha, I like me some fennel!
Gotta try me some smoked paprika !!!!! LIKE !!!!!!
“All we want is the ball...Boom! Boom! Boom!”
LMAO .. you said "we're gonna whack off the stalk" .. u know u caught my attention !! LOL! ;)
Fennel and I have a lot of history
Yummy 😋
thanks....and thanks for watching!
Chef ThAnks for sharing your video fennel ,I use to sell that
Yummy
in the US, it's not a wildly popular ingredient, surprisingly...or maybe not surprisingly since it's not the cheapest offering in the produce dept.
"Camera girl likes anything in a box"
she never not finishes one
That looks really good but I would make pasta and at all that to pasta like maybe linguine or spaghetti that’s what I would do but that looks good very very good
This is an outstanding recipe. I've made a few adjustments for my family, but the biggest change I made (and like) was adding caraway seeds. It adds a fun depth of flavor to an already dynamic AND EASY dish. Thank you for this. It is a part of my regular rotation now.
😋
nice 👋
thanks!
Never cooked with fennel before, so this is very interesting. Doesn’t fennel taste like licorice? Or am I confusing fennel with something else?
it does have a mildly licorice taste, which might sound off putting, but for sure worth giving a go if you've never tried fennel...but it's definitely not like eating a Twizzler :^)
hey Buck, you know I love all your videos but I need to tell you camera girls still photos of the finished food are always so good, they just pop. I have never tried fennel. The little bottle of wine was funny, it made you look like the 50 foot man from that old science fiction movie.
I love those tiny bottle of wines--I generally buy a little four-pack of white wine just to use in recipes...it's super handy and an easy way to French-flavor up a dish.
Does fennel have a licorice taste to it I've never bought it before
Fennel looks like the Bagpipes of the Vegetable World.
you're right...I like that
Where else are you going to get fennel jokes?!?!
Is the next part can make tea
😁
I might have a drinking problem 🍼
it's a three-way tie between booze, cookies, and coffee
....I need to get broccoli in on that race!
You can't leave your FACE out of it??????
Made this tonight!
