    I've seen this movie at least 100 times, and it is still my go-to movie if I can't decide what else to watch. But I never give much thought to what time period the story is supposedly set because the themes and emotions presented are so timeless. Even if a person hated period movies, I don't how they could hate this one. It is just that good.

    Actually, it’s the other way around. Darcy has too much pride and Elizabeth has too much prejudice (judging Mr. Darcy for being too vain).

      I can see it going both ways honestly!

    • @issatowers2934
      @issatowers2934 Před 2 lety +27

      honestly, I think both characters exhibit both traits throughout the book. for example. darcys pride can be shown through his first proposal, and his prejudice is shown as he is quick to judge any newer character he meets (such as lizzy) or when he is judging someone socially. for elizabeth, her prejudice is shown as you have said, and her pride is shown as she continues to shun darcy post proposal. she doesn't really let go of her pride and let her guard down until pemberley, and still, some of her guard is still up. darcy wounded her ego, and it takes a while for her to heal. although darcy exhibits more pride than prejudice, and lizzy more prejudice than pride, both characters are at their own faults. i think that's why the title of the novel is so clever. it gets the reader to determine which character is which, but in reality, its both.

      @RealTalkWithSSG Před rokem +7

      Both have these traits. Darcy is prejudiced against Jane Bennett when he breaks her and Bingley up because "ewwww Mr and Mrs Bennett are so crass and uncouth". Lizzie is proud because she defends Mr Wickham to show Darcy in a bad light. It's a barrage of miscommunication from both parties. They are made for each other.🤣

    I love this movie. Every shot looks like a painting. I only wish that the Pemberley scenes included more of the dialogue in the book. It is when Lizzie really falls for Darcy.

    pride and prejudice is one of my favorite book to movie adaptations. SO GOOD. I'm rereading the book rn and the directors managed to capture a lot of key moments from the book while also leaving out fluff but still keeping it a very slow burn film? I have nothing but praise.

  • @danyramos8139
    @danyramos8139 Před 3 lety +46

    What I would like to say is that in the movie they made Darcy more awkward (which I love and stan awkward Darcy) but in the characterization of the book he *is* very proud. He really thought at the beginning of the book that he should not associate with Lizzy because she is of lower social standing. In this movie they play up the "both have pride and prejudice" but Darcy in the book is very much proud, condescending, and altogether insufferable to be with. And that's what makes his character growth seem more satisfying because he went from a privileged condescending prick to a genuinely good person who loves Lizzy very much and actively does the work to become better.

      @lucia.b. Před 2 lety +8

      Yes, that is what I thought all along, but couldn't put into words, thank you!
      Darcy actually WORKING on changing himself, because he realised his flaws and honestly communicating that to Elisabeth is something I really like about the original story.
      I think it is so nice to see him genuinely try and show what was in him all along.
      It is also so interesting that in the first part of the book you get to know Darcy only through Elisabeths prejudice and live through that surprising reveal of his true character together with her.

    Greetings from Jacksonville Florida USA. Nice job. I never watched this movie until recently, and I was blown away. All of its elements were so powerful. And, the acting was some of the best that I ever have seen, almost all by using the eyes. Kiera was simply radiant in every scene.

    Very modern adaptation of novel, Elizabeth behaving like a magpie - very aggressive and all actors look not and behave not like 18th century English ladies and gentlemen. Music is outstanding. English version 1995 is perfectly set in the time of novel.

    Dear CZcams algorithm: this video is excellent. And by excellent, I mean that every viewer that does ANY search related to the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice should be served up this video in their follow-up recommendations. I've been watching PnP videos like crazy recently - probably a few dozen of them over the last couple of weeks - and you JUST NOW got around to recommending this video to me. For shame! Love the movie and the musical score. There are a couple of flaws, which can easily be overlooked, as Emma Thompson was enlisted to save the script late in the game. Colonel Forster was never introduced, and the uncle Mr. Gardner could easily be confused for him. Secondly, when Lizzie and the Gardners visited Pemberly and Lizzie ran into Darcy, she just walked back to the Rose and Crown, leaving the Gardner's at Pemberly. Magically, the Gardners were back eating at the Rose and Crown when Lizzie made it back, like nothing happened. One thing I want to know is how the scene with the mirror was done. After the bad proposal, Lizzie reflects while staring at the mirror and sees the image of Darcy as he drops off the rebuttal. No camera can be seen. How did he (Joe Wright) do that?

    Wow, great video here! I'm a P&P fan and you really show a depth of understanding here. My only comment is that every time, culture and society has flaws, limitations, realities. It almost sounded as if back then things were bad, but now, oh now, life is fair and without realities. It's not. Lol.

    You articulated so many of thoughts, about the film. So many of scenes were so incredibly shot, the score is on my iPad & listen to when I am taking long walks. The film was so well cast…
    As to the TV version. At about 4 hours & 45 minutes….it is a slower character development but one still well done. I watched it when it first came out & made my own VHS copy. Upon request I made copies for several friends. My Mother lent her copy to a friend. That friend & her husband sat down to watch a “little” & in the end the watched it in one sitting going to bed at 1:30 am. You can enjoy & respect both versions but in my heart of hearts I like the Kiera Knightly performance better. Of course, Lawrence Olivier (1940) is a mighty Mr Darcy.
