- The anticipated departure of a Royal Canadian Air Force C17 drew large crowds from far and wide (Manchester, really) at Leeds Bradford Airport on Sunday 13th as spotters eagerly awaited the moment when the military jet would finally emerge from behind the terminal.
Finally, after a delay of around 3 hours, it pushed back, only to stop for another 20 or so as they refuelled. It then departed, to the delight of the parents, who were already complaining about their kids not being able to do their homework for Monday morning! After another 50 miles, a Spicy Veggie Deluxe and a tea, I finally made it home from a chilly Yeadon to upload this video!

We may have a small armed forces but they’re well trained and we Canadians are darn proud of em!
So you should be!
Amen brother
Carl Clarke this “we” Canadian is very proud of our contribution to world peace
Carl Clarke good catch.
You should be proud. So are we here in America we were able to produce such technological marvels like C17.
We love our RCAF CC-177's...Amazing aircraft. Wish we had more of them...
That was brilliant. Hats off to our Canadian allies and friends. What a plane!
Thanks for posting and thanks for all the kind comments from our cousins in the UK and the US. I am proud to call you my friends.
Canadian pride, respected worldwide!
I can't believe how quickly it leapt into the air. Amazing.
Using JATOS maybe ?
Thank's to American Technology...
Amazing! So nice of the Canadians to do the taxi past with the guy waving from the top of the aircraft & then taking off to do the low fly past!
Absolutely magnificent takeoff of the C-17A Globmaster and nice to see an airman waving too from the Royal Canadian Air Force 🤩👍
My dad met my mum (welsh) while based in Manchester ... and brought her back to Canada. She’s never looked back. So glad I was born in Canada. But I’m so proud to be British too. I love Britain. So much history & fascinating places with stories packed on those little islands.
That’s simply because Canada 🇨🇦 is awesome, awesome. Good work, guys !
Have 13 of them across the street from where I live ,and it is great to see and hear the sound of freedom.
I was literally at school and I saw this thing flying overhead the next year, I was at pizza hut and an RAF version came over.
That's an insanely short take off run for such a huge and massive aircraft - very impressive!
Thanks for watching!
He went a long way through that sheep pasture before finding a runway.
That's gotta be a Newfie sticking out the top.
lol
actually an uneven airfield thus seeing over the rise requires someone above the ac to be safe
A proudly feeling must be to pilot this amazing jetplane
I have worked with Canadian Army and Navy , good warriors brave and fearless ! No complaints here!!
That C-17 jumped right off the ground, even with a full load of maple syrup on board!
AHHH, the pride of the RCAF's 429 Squadron .......Stationed at CFB Trenton , Ontario along with her 4 other "sisters"...the RCAF use the CC 117's for international ops as well as resup . refuel missions to the Canadian Military installations in Canada's far North. They have also responded to Natural Disasters, air lifting Canada's DART team ( Disaster Assistance Response Team), Medical supplies etc. to Nepal after the Earthquakes, Jamaica after Hurricane Dean and other disasters.......They also participated in Strategic Airlift of French troops and equipment into Mali and the area in Africa........IF anyone wanted to know....... ;)
SABRE 21 Trenton will be over run the migrants and antifa . DND makes Trenton the only important place in the country. Assholes
Canada in the Royal Air Force.
CC-177 actually.
CF-188
CT-155
Like that.
@@jimburden5113 lol you clown
Beautiful.....simply beautiful and classy, Looks Brand new....and the Canada insignia makes it look super Classy. From your Neighbors in the south 🇺🇸
Malone Mantooth as you can see up here we have many liberal dicks being superior once again.
After all this is what America produces fine aircraft like this . In the meantime we still cry about the Avro Arrow from the fifties
The C17 came after my time in the Canadian Forces. I spent way too many hours in the back off a CC-130 Hercules but the CC-150 Polaris (Air Bus A 310) was very comfortable for trips overseas. During one posting to CFB Trenton I was able to tour Canada's "Air Force One" and even sit in the PM's chair.
Last comment, yesterday, I was in my back garden and an RAF c17 Globemaster 3 went over the house.
I haven't seen any but there have been plenty around lately!
@@ManchesterAviation we have been watching a400m atlases and c17's doing touch and goes at the airport. I see them on flightradar24 as well coming from brize Norton.
Actually an A400M has been doing circuits at Liverpool but I haven't seen it!
May God Bless Canadian Airforce 🙏🇨🇦
As a Canadian myself I am happy to see this behemoth fly.
And yet she can take to the air with incredible grace. Love the aircraft love CF Pilots, Aircrew & Mechanics.
Makes me proud to be Canadian!! The Armed Forces have always had my complete and absolute respect!
I think that low pass right after takeoff was for the benefit of those that came out to see her off. Great job cameraman, great job pilot!
I think it was! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Of course we’re Canadians we aim to please.
In Russian, "a plane" is "he" :))). "Low pass" is not for demonstration but for rising the velosity)) Best wishes from Russia!
staying at an altitude equal to or less than the wingspan helps with ground effect, allows the aircraft to gain speed before they pulled up towards the end
Please, explain me, what "before they pulled up towards the end
" means?
"
HOLLY GRAP DUDE, now that's how U drive ur heavy lift Canadian military aircraft !!! He drove this like a sports car, DUDE this driver is PRO all the way through VERY VERY impressive, way to go, Cowboy, Brilliant & Cheers
Haha! Thanks for watching :-)
Proud of my country
I love seeing the crew-member, ducking outside for a cheeky cigarette, before take-off ;)
There's just something about the C17 that makes it more than just another aircraft.
It's a very nice plane!
Big Vim, you may want to check out the ' Antonov 225 ' and turnup the sound . .
Canadians, polite even when taxiing a military aircraft.
Rock steady filming and beautifully smooth quality of a gorgeous aircraft in perfect conditions. Well done.
Thanks a lot :-)
Life in the artic circle. Go Canada!
What a monster. The scale of this beast is impressive on video but in person you must have had an incredible experience... Thanks for the upload!!! That's thanks eh, in Canadian...
Thanks for watching! It's a very impressive aircraft, my first time seeing a large military aircraft like this!
Saw this plane on its approach to Leeds Bradford. Absolutely massive!! Like "Star Wars""
It's an impressive aircraft :D
I like how it required less of the runway than some of the 737s do
Nice footage of the mighty C-17, that was an awesome takeoff too!
Thanks a lot! It was!
It's amazing how a heavy plane can just take off and fly off into the sun.
JAW DROPPING!! EVEN JUST WATCHING FROM VIDEO! THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING/POSTING FOR THE REST OF US!
Excellent, thank you RCAF.
Cheers!
I work near CFB Trenton where some of these are based, with the main flightpath to and from the base right over top of us at pretty low altitude, and it never ceases to amaze me seeing them in flight. Especially at take-off and low speeds. I keep expecting it to just drop out of the sky. They had to build new hangers for them because the ones for the Herc's were way too small.
C17 is BADASS!
It’s an impressive machine and great to fly, apparently!
Absolutely stunning! What a big capture! Amazing rotate as well, ending with a short low pass and climb out! AWESOME!!!
Thank you very much! The low pass was a nice touch!
The guy on top waving is AWESOME! great job flight crew. Good catch!
He is! Thanks for watching :-)
Love my Home ...Toronto...and Canada ..... love the world...
Seriously, it is simply awesome.
Superb camerawork thanks for the effort that was absolutely top quality
Thank you very much!
MAKES ME PROUD TO WATCH THIS VIDEO AND READ THE COMMENTS BELOW BECAUSE I WORKED BUILT THESE ENGINES FOR 30 YEARS AND PROUD OF THEM.
Classy Canadians. Always the most liked.
cheers eh? :)
Sam Farnsworth Yes the Canadians really are amazing people and so well liked globally.
Actually, liked globally is where he is a plus and an asset.
Hayden Holman yea...good thing that neo-fascist Harper is gone.
Shame they don't build a wall to keep the southern rabble out!
beautiful aircraft that one
So cool that this one guy was waving nearly the whole time from the top of this c17, stunning video mate!
That was nice to see after the delay Thanks for watching :-)

The guy on the top of C17 was just shooing off other planes. Just wanted to tell that he was in a hurry and it was his turn to take off...
Beautiful 🖒🖒 Thank you 🖒🖒😎
Wow. That was well worth that wait. Loved the low pass before a steep climb out. Brilliant video mate.
Thank you! It was worth it in the end :-)
Nice vid 🇨🇦🇺🇸 together forever...US loves our northern neighbors!!!
Well, save for extreme right wing Republicans and their base who seem to think that everyone else in the world is an enemy.
Nicely shot video.
About ten years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing a US Air Force C17 do a slow, low pass and bank over Althouse College, which is one of the affiliated colleges of The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. The plane was involved in a local air show and was on the outbound leg of its demonstration run.
In any case, it was amazing and fun to see how the sheer size of the aircraft belied its ability to be flown very gracefully. I'll bet the ride on a C17 is really pleasant.
Thank you! I bet that was amazing to see, I reckon it would be fun to fly in one!
@Steve Struthers I remember about 25 years ago when the Antonov flew into London international airport to load a freight engine from GM Diesel that was being transported to Scotland. It was even more massive than the C117 and made the 200,000 lb engine look like a dinky toy.
ahh the Canadian airforce opted for a sunroof! =)
Hahahahaha
@@sandeepsandhu4286 all they need are a few drunk club girls waving lol.

that's where the anti aircraft gunner stands
I love Canada !
We all love Canada
i waited 4 hours to watch this at the cemetery well worth it though
Me too, it was a long day for me!
What was the occasion? Why was this a special day?

Military aircraft were flying in and out of LBA for that whole week!
CANADA🌷IS COOL LIKE THAT.👏👏👏💖.
GODBLESS OUR ARMY👏.
HAM FASTLINE Air Force
Loved it. Gorgeous aircraft. Nice clear video. Lovely early rotate and adjusted low climb-out. And, me being Canadian, there was a extra lump in my throat. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching :-)
Incredible how the aerodynamic forces on the T-Tail provide such a quick rotation. Incredible design.
Awesome plane... OH CANADA!!!!
I love the fact that Canadian Forces planes have Canada's travel logo on it. Our neighbors to the north are polite event in hostile environments.
It’s not a travel logo, it’s the Government of Canada logo 😊
I have loaded C-177703 to many times for me to be excited... But I'm happy others are... :)
I'm amazed at the take-off roll, time was 13-15 seconds, must be extremely light.
It only had a very short flight, so that's likely!
Truly impressive craft.
Canadians, they are so polite. we could learn from those people !
We can :-)
It's all a well rehearsed facade. Actually they're an extremely materialistic people.
Binaashkaa Anishinaabe
If you are one of those morons who believe what they hear about Trudeau you are severely mistaken. The Liberals and Canadians in general are merely the most polite and civil evolution of the imperial British Empire, they do things politely but they are not nearly as well to do about things when you really get to know them.
Your sick in your soul and your heart, It would be better for you to get some help !
Who me?
i diddnt know the friggin thigs had a sun deck :)
I hope to see this little baby in Mexico in some weeks.
You just know he’s yelling “I’m king of the world!”
He probably was!
Thank you Steven Harper.
Affirmative...
Excellent shot of this C17, really nice work! :)
Thank you very much!
J loo
Love Canadians!
Amazing to watch such a gaint beautiful plane take off
I agree :-)
That takeoff was legendary and stylish
"Amazing" takeoff would've been if the guy had remained outside the hatch.
what a beast!
I didn't realize that the tail on a C17 was so friggin' tall. I searched it and it has to do with what's called a "super stall". When the nose tips up too far, the wings will actually block the air flow from the tail elevator, resulting in a stall that is very difficult to recover from, if it can be recovered at all. By raising the elevators that high, there will be airflow passing over them no matter how nose up it is. Now I know.
That's interesting to know, but it does make sense, now that you mention it!
Never knew that, but always wondered (and was too lazy to look it up I guess). Thanks!
SixStringLove Guy : Yes superstall -In flight & esp. during takeoff the extra lift generated by the tail can be compromised by the horizontal wind wash of the larger wing b4 it, at the right pitch & bring down the plane.
I'm certain this was one of the key problems w the F-104 'widowmaker', the "lift" part of the equation being exaggerated by its disproportionally tiny wings (designed that way to reduce drag, increasing speed to evade missiles & outperform their cold war opponents).
The starfighter of course had the high tail on a short vertical rudder & a small overall wing area.
Also of interesting note, I was reading about the developement of the Sweedish "Viggen", a reliable & versitile early 70's single engine multiroller, w the first full production of a canard on a fighter. As we know they had to change the larger rear wing to accomidate more lift in its functioning role, giving it its classic unmistakable outward double delta shape, but the canards were origonally put in line w the rear wings, proving too close vertically for wing loaded takeoffs + aggressive manuvers, & subsequently moved up to a safer position above the intakes.
You'll notice now all canards are strategically placed out of the horizontal plane of the main lifting wing, either by differing elevation or perpendicular pitch & a safe distance from the intakes if fore of them, the one exception being the high tech looking new Russian Su-57? "Raptorski" with its L.E.R.X. leading edge surfaces, ..but guess what, they've had problems with them from the get-go, leading to uninitiated flameouts in the engines as a result, this will inevitably lead to a warning light w tighter manuvering restrictions, or a redesign involving a limit & perhaps a top vent redirect like the Mig-29's 'blended wing' aerodynamic solution for intake turbulence.
Nice info dude
A crash to trident G-ARPI in U.K. in 1970s. The t-tail deep stall warning sounded and the crew did not take avoiding measures.
What a beauty
It's an awesome aircraft!
The C-5 Galaxy routinely carries 73 troops and 36 standard 463L pallets. The aircraft is able to carry two M1 Abrams main battle tanks, or one Abrams tank plus two M2/M3 Bradley fighting vehicles, or six AH-64 Apache/Apache Longbow attack helicopters. Also, the C-5 is able to carry as many as 15 HMMWV (humvees).
That is pretty cool to see someone on top waving.
It was nice of them to do that!
What a great clip. Super clear shots with the zoom - very well done!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Stunning video of this great aircraft! Huge like from your efforts!!
Thank you very much!
Awesome Machine !!
C'est un très très bel "oiseau" cet avion ! Il a un côté élégant et inspire la puissance.
You gotta love canadians!
Canadians can come over any time they like .
It is so nice, we are very strong military to protected our country. thks
Awesome 👌👌
Great video. 16 seconds to rotate, very impressive !!
It was a very short takeoff!
Great video of this nice takeoff!
Thanks for watching :D
Great video - thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Looked like the pilot performed a short field takeoff.
I think it was light, given that the destination was only Brize Norton ;-)
Short field takeoff is the name of a technique. It can be performed whether the plane is light or heavy. The clue is lowering the nose to allow airspeed to build to a safe climb rate after taking off in ground effect at not much above the stall speed.
Fantastic shot!
Thanks :D
Wow. Awesome
Such short take off, amazing. Beautiful beast.
Thanks for watching!
Manchester Aviation
Thanks for the video.
Wonderful. the Canadian pilots put on a bit of a show. Leveling off after take off over the crowd.
Did you see the youtube video of the cf-18 in the Mach loop ?
glad this waving soldier went inside the plane and avoided that the engines pulled him somewhere else
Holy smokes, that is pretty cool.
It is!
Great camera work. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Amazing video !
