I plant Raddish next to other seelings like carrots as slugs have been so bad this winter I find them useful to use as a sacrificial crop for the slugs to eat.
I haven’t tried sacrificial crops but in know people do, did it work?

Experiment I'm trying is crushing my recycling glass into a rice sized mulch around my Rhubarbs on top of the weed fabric and so far it's working well but
My main problem is vine weevil with my perennials.

I wanted to thank you for the record book and tomato seeds Chris, the record book is just what I need, it's great quality with plenty of space to write in. I hope you'll be doing one next year too. Had great germination with the tomatoes all except Alice's Dream but hey ho...that's gardening. Cheers.

Everywhere seems to be getting a soaking at the moment, my wheelbarrow has been renamed wheelpond!
I use the same black tubs for Rhubarbs and Strawberries but I also have the blue kids paddeling pools you can get in Homebargain as they are perfect for a water barrier to keep off vine weevil and slugs.
He does that work then, do you have other pots in the middle of the pool of water?

@@veggieplot I sit the tubs on some bricks and fill the paddeling pool with water and some limestone dust. The tub is basically an island and no crawling bugs can get to the plants.
@@veggieplot No just the one planter as it can't touch any other plants or pots and kept isolated and don't let the leaves be in contact with a anything.

Hi, The peppermint Swiss chard is my favourite. I use the stems like I would celery and chop it up and add it to a salad, gorgeous 😋

Hi, trying celeriac and kohlrabi this year . I always grow lots of beans , dwarf and climbing because I jar them up . Can’t wait for better weather, it is a slow start this year. 😊
Hi Sandrine, kohlrabi are such an interesting and quirky looking veg aren't they, sci-fi looking even 👽. It is definitely wet and chilly this year, very slow down here in Cornwall.

Space is always an issue isn't it, although one minute I have too much and then I need another allotment 😂 Happy Easter to you too.
As for the Claret PSB try sowing early June, You'll usually have more space for a long range harvesting veg. x

Happy Easter Chris! I will give the golden beetroot a try this year and maybe some Swiss Chard too. My peas are up, Hurst Greenshaft and dwarf french bean are just coming through too. Not sure whether to put Charlotte potatoes in or to wait a couple of weeks. Whay do you think? 🙂
Happy Easter to you too Sue, I think the ☀️ might show up today 🥳. Burpees golden is one of our favourites, have you grown Chioggia, it's white/red striped in side and quite stunning? I've started my potatoes off in tubs in the polytunnel but have seen other people plant theirs outside. I'm not sure when your last frost date is but too early and the leaves can get frosted if they're up and out. You can fleece them if frost is due though. As Charlottes are second earlies, I think the recommended time is beginning to mid April, so you could hang off for a couple of weeks if you want to be sure.
@@veggieplot Thanks Chris. I will try both beetroot. I will take your advice and wait a few more weeks before planting potatoes. I planted Alice's Dream and Striped Stuffer which you sent me with the record book and have had 100% success. I like your record book upgrade, did think it should have Veggieplot on the cover. Finding it so useful. I feel more organised this year. 🙂

great list. Thank you for the reminder. I forgot to sow my tomatoes in march so must get on with them quickly now. I sowed my melons about 2 weeks ago and they germinated well and are growing strongly now. Thank you for a great video and by the way, was it you who showed recently how to make seed tape with loo roll? Cheers. happy gardening 🙂
Hi Be, yes I made a seed tape in my last video using parsnip seeds. There are so many seeds to choose from at the moment aren't there and I need to start my melons very soon too. Happy gardening to you too 🌱🌱🌱
I haven't sown any tomatoes yet, but I will probably do it in the next week. I have never had much luck with radish, maybe its because I'm not that keen on them. I'm trying ginger this year, which is sprouting nicely.
Hi Pauline, I want to try ginger again as I had no luck with it last year, they just didn't sprout so I wonder if they had a growth inhibitor on them! Perhaps organic would do the trick, what do you think?
@veggieplot I was told shop bought might have an inhibitor or it so I got organic and it's all sprouted. I put it in the propagater to start though.

Hi, any tips with seed onions. I transplanted my onions last week into multi purpose compost and they've gone a bit yellow/floppy... I'm guessing it's all the rain we've had but I'd like to know your thoughts and what I can do moving forward
Hi Darren, it sounds like they're too wet. If they're outside they may need some protection from all the rain or if indoors, check the compost's moisture, and if very damp you might need to let them dry out before watering again. Good luck, I hope they bounce back.
