What’s interesting to me is how older car was open cockpit, small windshield, and the driver not wearing full face helmet. Those guys on another level
Funny you should mention that, very observant!
The small windshields were an attempt to reduce as much drag. After 1959, the rules were changed in an attempt to slow down the cars, and make them somewhat safer, as the cockpits were getting quite tight with the windshields, which may prevent the driver from getting out of the car in an accident. You’ll notice from the 1960 up to 1966 the cars had what looked like a full sized windshield, and there were minimum size requirements and angles to meet that. I know someone skirted the rules with a Maserati by placing the windshield very low in the chassis. Appendix J, and the Group 6 rules would eventually remove that rule (I.e. GT40 MKIV, Ford P3L 68, Mirage M1, Porsche 908, etc)
There is a fantastic book that goes over the 1960-1969 decade of racing, which is in my collection called : Sports Car Racing in Camera, 1960-1969 by Paul Parker, I highly suggest picking up a copy!
It was that way for pre war Grand Prix racing, F1, and IndyCar too
@@JC-jj1xm thank you for the information, i will check that book
Let's see if Toyota can now win Le Mans for the first time against big manufactureres. They're indeed strong, but if there is one race which can bring big surprises, it is Le Mans
and... no they can't :)
And they didn't win this year either the ferrari 499p is back to back at LeMans
in my opinion the most dramatic finsh what remember was in 2016 when number 5 toyota stop just in front of the start finish line just before to start the last lap Warm greetings from Uruguay
To me a more dramatic finish would be the 1994 Le Mans where the Porsche 962 won. The leading Toyota had an issue, knocking it out of the lead and would go on to finish second. Earlier that year Roland Ratzenberger died at Imola, and as a tribute since he was to drive for them that year at Le Mans, his name was left on the car.
people often forget that the race is also about reliability
Reminds me about bugatti le mans heritage. Sad they won't be racing no more. They could take the grill and lights of the bolide and make everything else new I can already picture it in my head it would look amazing.
The R8 was phenomenal. Pre diesel.
Working on a Pre War Le Man's pack for Assetto Corsa soon, it was gonna be ready for this year's Le Man's but I've had a lot to do
I'm hoping we will be adding either Porsche Penske Motorsport or Hertz Team JOTA to the list. Great vid.
Thank you! And great to see more support for Porsche! As a matter a fact I want the same thing you said!
Nice video, you need to update that and add Ferrari 499P, Le Mans 2023 winner
Thank you! Yeah the 499P is now on record list!
2023 Ferrari 🎉
2:42 uh that's a 250 GTO photo...
Oops! My bad. Must have mixed up the photos, it’s hard when there are 90 photos to go through haha!
Interesting, I wasn't aware the #17 1987 winner was the last successful Porsche 962 at Le Mans, excluding the "non porsche" 962 win. I sat in that car once. Adds another layer of depth to that cherished memory.
What about the dauer 962 that won 1994 lemans
@@MrB590 what part of "excluding the "non porsche" 962 win." can't you read
Keep up your good work, Jonah. You are very knowledgeable and committed. Thanks.
Thank you Paul!
My first time watching this year (: I didn’t even know it was today I just watched the Emp Lemon vid on the last Mercedes to race in Le Mans and then I put on HBO and they were streaming Le Mans so I’m watching it now (:
Hey I posted this to the wec subreddit and the mods pinned your video as an "announcement" message at the top of the page. Thanks for making it! I was as surprised as you will be reading this.
Wow thank you! I’ve just seen the post. Means a lot, thank you very much for doing that!
Big BMW and Porsche fan here but it would great for the sport if Ferrari would win this year. That car just looks fabulous.
Guess what
2023- it's Ferrari
Imagine if villeneuve return next year to race with pescarolo entry peugeot 9x8
2023 Ferrari !!!
Quite interesting how cars from only six nations have won: UK, France, Italy, USA, Germany and Japan. The six greatest automotive nations...
very nıce vıdeo and emotıonal musıc
Really good collection of Le Mans winning cars! I think in 2013 the #2 Car won
Thank you! Yep that’s correct, the 2012 and 2013 cars look so similar that they accidentally got swapped
2023... Ferrari
2024 - ferrari
In 1965 NART won but they I don’t know if they were an official subsidiary of Scuderia Ferrari or basically a Ferrari customer team. Otherwise another great and informative video.
I think the 2023 big cheeses will be Toyota, Ferrari, Porsche, and Garage 56. And I'm sure the race will be intense where other hypercar teams putting so much pressure to Toyota during the race. Or even Garage 56 smoking by the GTEs.
Do updated one with the 2 ferrari 499p cars that won in 2023 and 2024
Hi Jonah. Did you hear that Jacques Villeneuve will not take part at Le Mans 24 hours? It seems that he got the news on Twitter!!!
It's sounding like he might've made that up now. Apparently (according to Kolles) he wanted out due to family reasons (although apparently it was actually due to not having a race-winning car), so they came to a mutual agreement to drop him. However, he also wanted to be reimbursed for hiring the motorhome for Le Mans, and Kolles said no, so he decided to spread that rumour.
Regardless of who's lying, it certainly building up to be quite spicy!
Oh, and Kolles also said the brake failure was due to him accidentally bumping a button which put the car into a power recycle, and then because he hadn't read the manual, the mechanics had to explain to him how to fix it (which Kolles emphasised was highly laborious), that caused the engine and brakes to overheat and hence brake failure. Apparently they took the blame initially to save him from embarrassment, but it seems like the gloves are off now.
I did hear about that! I am interested to hear more on the matter
Come on Jonah
10k before Le Mans ends!!
Yeah! Thanks for the support 👊
It would have been great to see which drivers were driving these winning cars
Noted for the next time 👊
3:02 that photo is the reason Bruce McLaren is 1966 winner
Can Ferrari win it again after 1965, now Ferrari lead from toyota with 3 minute gap after Toyota spin
AND FERRARI ARE BACK
Yeah! Forza Ferrari!
1991 was big for Japan. They were the first country to win Le Mans and didn't win until...
Hello the preview 100th years le mans will soon tuesday let's 18 days to go thank's
Yes I will be doing a preview!
Pictures from 2012 and 2013 are reversed.
It's mostly all VAG since 2000 that's interesting.

Fail 1:56 Jaguar C-Type #18 Tony Rolt / Duncan Hamilton
Can you elaborate please?
@@FormulaJonah I believe it was the Jaguar #18 car that won in 1953? Not really a "fail" but there are a lot of trolls about..
