      When I moved into this house association property, we were given a folder with all the makes and models of everything, and manuals, because it was a new build. You should have been given this too. But if not, take samples from old carpet to match, and chip or photo of paint in good light. Your whole house was painted one colour, so builder should know the make and shade, and you should keep a tin on hand for touch ups anyway.

      I don't think this was really an inherent poor quality building issue though. The builders may have put in the cheapest toilets they could and those are probably more prone to clogging, but from the story it sounds like the toilet was clogged, they didn't unclog it before they went to bed and one of the kids went to use it or flush it overnight and because it was clogged it started to overflow. Usually when a toilet clogs it doesn't overflow the first time or suddenly start after its first clogged, but then will start to overflow if you flush again without removing the clog

      @sortathesame8701 Před 2 lety +4

      I will be shocked if insurance covers much of anything. Since they knew the toilet was clogged and not unclog it, they cannot claim natural damage and they cannot claim a default in the toilet. Even the toilet running won't be taken into consideration, because that is not why the toilet over flowed. I really wish them well. And of course they do live in California, where insurance frequently pays for things that they do not cover in other states. Best of luck to them...whatever they do...don't get any work done beyond what MUST be done to make the house safe to live in without contracting their insurance! The people who come in to clean up are also trying to make a buck and will replace things that insurance would never cover!

      Things we use that can be dangerous.

      Electricity

      Did you know that in the UK ozone therapy is used regularly in the medical industry it’s amazing for wound treatment.
      I see warnings on 5 gallon buckets, I have hoards of them and not one death.
      Warnings are most definitely needed, they don’t say not to use them .
      The toxic chemicals they spray on the home after a home has water damage are extremely poisonous and don’t go away. They linger for you to breathe a very long time.

You mentioned in your last vlog that you knew it was clogged, and you went on with your night and did the podcast ect. Knowing it was clogged, and then went to bed. Please always unclog a toilet.. it's no big deal to go downstairs and grab the plunger from your other bathroom and unclog it. Kids don't have the know how to not use a particular toilet over night because you knowingly left it clogged up. May this be a lesson learned. 🙏🙏🙏

We didn't catch it right away, so the damage was extensive and we only realized there was a problem when we started smelling mold. The house was deemed uninhabitable and we had to go to a hotel. Insurance said no one could so much as look at it until the adjuster came out or they wouldn't cover a cent. It took them A MONTH just to get the adjuster out to assess it. It was 2 1/2 months total that we were in a hotel, and at the end of it all, insurance refused to pay for the hotel 🥴

If that's the case, even if the toilet was clogged (and a little over flowed), if that toilet "filled" all the time, no wonder it did so much damage. I know with clogged toilets I have had, sometimes the water comes right to the top and teases you, but doesn't overflow since it's not "running". Hope this makes sense. Definitely research new toilets and replace them ! You might also think of water alarms. Price varies but might be a good investment. So sorry this happened. 🤗🤗

The best thing we did was hire an independent insurance broker to fight our insurance company for us. I think we would’ve gotten a lot Less money if we had tried to deal with them on our own. It took 18 months to finally get a check and almost 2 years from the time of the flood to get our kitchen back, but it was worth it in the end. Also have your contractor save any fixtures that you think might be faulty. You might need to have an outside person inspect them, for the insurance adjusters report. This is reminding me of when we had to redo our kitchen… i was in grade 6 and we discovered right before the school holidays that the dishwasher had been leaking under the floor of the kitchen and so everything had to be replaced. We were already going to be travelling for my grandmother’s funeral so instead of going on a few days trip we went on a big two week or more road trip while the builders were fixing our kitchen… of course that was almost 20 years ago and in Australia plus i think you guys have way more damage.

  • @ChristinaLouiseFitness

    several years ago we had the main kids bathroom and the laundry room leak. the entire ceiling from the front door into the kitchen had to be completely taken out, the carpet upstairs had to be taken out. The company our insurance sent out over took forever to actually finish the job. At the time we also had foster kids living with us. we ended up having a make shift bedroom for all the kids in the basement. If you are going to be in construction zone for several months I would look into booking an air b&b near by so you don't have to sleep in construction zone. Your insurance probably would cover the cost of the air b&b as well depending on your policy.

    I can 100% relate to what you are going through with your home! 😱🙊 My fiancé, Hendrix (our Frenchie puppy), and I were planning on being in Chicago for ten days to celebrate his mom’s birthday on June 1st. We drove from AZ to Chicago and fifty miles outside of the city, we got in a car accident. The car was supposed to be fixed July 17th, and a day before that date, we get a call saying that our car is actually totaled. It took another month to get things sorted with the adjuster and by the time we found and purchased a new car, we didn’t arrive home until a week and a half ago! The entire ordeal took four months and a plethora of unforeseen expenses that insurance didn’t cover (in addition to everything that we were reimbursed for)… So whether it’s dealing with home insurance or car insurance, it is an expensive, lengthy, and drawn out process at the moment. 💔 The best advice I can give you for starting this endeavor is to prepare for the worst, but hope for the best, and make the most out of each and every moment that you have with your loved ones along the way. 💗 I hope that your home gets repaired quickly and that the insurance process goes much more smoothly for Chris and you than it did for Martin and I. 💕🙏🏼😘
