“Now I’m waiting by the phone like I’m sitting in an airport bar.”
When you’re sitting in the airport bar waiting for the boarding to start. Anxious, alerted, not to miss the flight. Listening to every announcement.
And the same happens when we’re just falling for someone. Everytime our phone rings we run to it hoping that it’s that person! Alerted, anxious.
Wow thanks for this. An amazing explanation 👏
Heard this song waiting for my late flight and this lyric HIT
omg, i knew there must be something about that lyrics
my favourite line from this song💓
Excellent analysis.........
1. Taylor Swift - The Country Girl
2. Fearless - The Teenage Girl
3. Speak Now - The Princess
4. Red - A Heartbroken Woman
5. 1989 - The Party Woman
6. Reputation - A Brave Woman
7. Lover - The Lover
8. folklore - A Wise Woman
9. evermore - The Woman who told the Stories
Now this is complete and the addition is just so perfect 😌
Growing up with Taylor
Evermore : A storyteller
She's a bard, spinning stories with music 🥰
Reputation should be "the badass woman"
No no u don't get it, Taylor didn't just write that ''the tennis court was covered up with some 'tent-like thing' coz she didn't know what that word was... The woman is a dictionary mate! She said that coz this is from a con-woman's perspective, pretending to be rich and posh to get rich dates and a fancy life..... So it just fits perfectly!

Pfp big slay
This song is actually so genius , and it’s so not recognized enough
Everyone is talking about the Babylon line. But I find some other lyrics also really impressive like "but i said dancing is a dangerous game", it makes me think that she's a con artist, she knows exactly how vulnerable people can become once they fall in love, and dancing is an activity that can make people feel so in love.
Furthermore, she doesn't wanted to be found by the old man that she's planning to swindle for money. If that old man saw her dancing with another man, it's over for her.
There is always a track in Taylor’s albums that doesn’t stand out to me at the first hundred listens but slowly becomes my ultimate favorite. It was seven in Folklore and it is this song in Evermore.
Same except in folklore it was exile for me, I'm embarrassed to admit that.
That was peace for me in folklore!

"Now you hang from my lips like the Gardens of Babylon."
Beautiful imagery Taylor, just beautiful. The way she not only uses the architectural aspect of things as a simile, but also due to the fact that the existence of the Hanging Gardens has been up to debate make the lyrics even more bittersweet. It's like the speaker is hanging on to the idea of it because if they don't, they'll lose the only thing that makes it real, turning it into just the imagination of the persona.
Nebuchadnezzar was found silent after taylor wrote this line 😹
This line has been stalking me for a week now. Without analyzing it the way you do (so well) I find the words just beautiful. The whole song is so delicate. If she ever wrote a poetry book the whole world (except for her fans) would be surprised once again.
@@R-jt4ud Thank you!!! And yeah I agree with you. If Taylor wrote a poetry book, it'd flood the world by storm!!!!!
Your interpretation is beautiful, I really like it.
I googled the hanging garden on wikipedia and i found this: According to one legend, the Hanging Gardens were built by the Neo-Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II, for his Median wife Queen Amytis, because she missed the green hills and valleys of her homeland.
This story reminded me ''Just being in your arms takes me back to that little farm
'' from Christmas tree farm, here taylor is referring to how her boyfriend makes her feel at home.
I absolutely love this, thank you for your mind

She probably will in the debut TV era
I was literally just thinking the exact same thing (:
this is more of a relaxing country vibe while the debut and fearless are more upbeat country (in my opinion)

Lets dont forget “pubwe” in london boy! Still one of my favourites

I mean....it is Taylor Swift so expect everything
yeehaw!
It's got me. I've listened to it at least 10 times in a row.
Wow. She really feels it.
I picture this playing in the movie "Brokeback Mountain"
This song is deep.
"But that was all before I locked it down"
She sings it in a way that makes you feel like she's absolutely smug about it. There's this feeling, of utter satisfaction when someone is yours, your person. No matter how much other people may want them, none of them can possible have them. Not because you're holding them with a chain, but because they want you to have them, and in return, you want them to have you. This song tells the journey of wanting someone, to reaching them, and to having them. She says how men wanted her and women wanted him, but that was all in the past, that it was before they were each other's. And that feeling definitely deservers a level of smugness. You can't see her face, but you can tell that she's probably smirking while singing this, almost whispering into the mic, before she seals her lock and hold the key.
Yes exactly, i love how her line delivery so much

The gardens of Babylon line is my ultimate favourite! The gardens were ‘created’ by a fancy ruler for his wife. However, there isn’t any archaeological evidence to suggest it actually existed. So Taylor is alluding to the fact that there is a great love there but it may not be real. Her mind...
There are hanging gardens in babylon this day actually
OH MY GOSH SHES A GODESS
@@gsiya4023 no they’re saying that there is no evidence to support that it was made by a fancy ruler for his wife
or that the greatest loves of all time are over now?
From what I know of the story, the gardens were said to float in the desert, like a mirage. However, when you got close enough, you could see that it actually hung from a building owned by the fancy ruler you mentioned. The building just blended into all the sand and the heat, in a way that you could only see the gardens from distance, giving the illusion it floated above the ground. Therefore, this line could mean two things: his love for her is an illusion, not truly there, just a mirage like the gardens; or he's in love with her, but no one knows -- if he's the gardens, she's the building no one knows it's there. Either way, it's a beautiful line, and its multiple interpretations just goes to show her writing is too complex and layered to be nailed down to a single interpretation. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
this song doesn't click to me the first time i listen to it but it grows on me so fast that it has become my go-to song on evermore. it's really well written and provides a level of comfort that not even the softest blankets could achieve.
