- We are many who love Hydrangeas and I have a lot of different species and varieties in the garden.
Here I will show you my Top 5 list in July. I’m making a presentation, telling about the different hydrangeas and how I prune them.
I grow the Hydrangeas in my borders among perennials and love the structure they give.
In the video I'm telling about:
Hydrangea paniculata ’Great Star’ (‘Le Vasterival’)
Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’
Allium ‘Mount Everest’
Epilobium angustifolium ‘Album’
Hydrangea aspera 'Macrophylla'
Hydrangea paniculata ’Wim's Red’
Hydrangea arborescens ‘Ruby Annabelle’
My name is Claus Dalby, and I live in Risskov on the outskirts of Aarhus in Denmark. To date, I have written about 30 books on flowers and gardens in Danish, and my garden has been featured on many TV shows. In March 2022 my first book in English will be available. I consider my home (built in1908), and its garden with its neighboring wood, as my sanctuary. When I started gardening in 1996, there was just a large lawn covering approximately 1 acre (4,000 square meters), but today the grass is long gone - replaced by 15 hedged rooms with varying colors and moods. Additionally, one of my great passions is growing in pots, arranged to create spectacular container gardens, which I will share quite a bit about on this channel. Decor and creating moods have always interested me - both outside and inside - and I love to use the flowers from my garden for bouquets and to inspire other crafts that create a sense of hygge.

Good morning! These videos are a delight with a morning coffee.
Be still my heart, gorgeous hydrangeas, they are definitely one of my favorite shrubs.
You are such a great narrator. I'd listen to you talk about anything!
thank you! would look for these in our garden centers.
Thank you for showing some of your beautiful hydrangeas from your summer garden. I have not seen a few of those varieties. I particularly am fascinated by the Hydrangea aspera Macrophylla and would love to find one for my garden. I have different forms of macrophylla, paniculata and 2 glorious quercifloria (oak leaf)hydrangeas. Your garden is amazing. Please show the red variety again when the blooms change color!
Learned a lot about history of hydrangeas from you. Thank you
Thank you Claus, Hydrangeas grow so well here in Ireland, lots
of rain. I had the pleasure of visiting La Vasterval and met Princess Sturdza, what a lady and a gardener. Keep up the great videos.
Could you share the name of that rose behing you at 10:07? Such a beauty.
Gorgeous hydrangea. Love that huge lace cap with the pink and white with velvet leaves. Absolutely spectacular
Lovely hydrangeas and beautiful and minute explanation of each flowers love to the hydrangeas in my garden

The hydrangeas are spectacular! Love them in the fall!💜💜💜💜
Me too!!
Dear Claus, thank you so much for sharing such amaizing beauty with us! Your garden is wonderful and inspiring. Please, keep posting!
What a great video. I just planted 3 Ruby hydrangeas and seeing yours blooming is delightful. Mine are small but should bloom next year. Also, loved the interplanting of alliums with your hydrangeas.
Amzing garden! Great job you are doing! I think mostly you love the plants with white flowers 😘
I have been worried about Annabelle due to the heavy rains we get through the summer. Staking makes sense. It's so lovely. Love Wim's Red also, due to it's colored stems.
I put a cage around mine, the foliage hides the cage.
The blooms last so long on every hydrangea I have in my garden! That's partly why I have so many and just about every type. My favorite plants in my garden. Your voice is so great for narrating of any kind but lovely for the garden!
Very topical - comparing hydrangeas with family today. Thought I had a lime hydrangea - now wondering if I invested in Annabelle - I’ll be delighted either way. Love the idea of white alliums preceding hydrangeas in your planting scheme. Very interesting. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your garden. Heaven on earth. So inspirational!
Those Hydrangeas are truly Beautiful and Enchanting.....i love it.
Thank you for sharing your Beautiful collection of Hydrangeas... Sir.
Good wishes to you and yours.
Such beautiful hydrangeas. I can see why they’re your favorites. 💚💚💚
Hi I love your garden
Thank you so much - that is so nice to hear.
Super video med historie og gode råd. Tak 😍
Just beautiful! I love hydrangeas and your’s are gorgeous. Can you tell us what the tall brownish maroon pods are growing alongside the wim’s red? I love the way it moves in the breeze. Thank you.
Your garden is absolutely stunning! I love how you have all the plants intermingled with each other. It all looks so healthy too. I'm very envious. Here in USA, Tennessee, we contend with lots of pests. You make it all look so easy. I love hydrangeas and your's are magnificent!!! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Love this thanks so much!
I love your videos! So informative and fun 😊❤️
To my surprise the first Hydrangea you featured is one I have in my garden....Great Star is one of the most beautiful plants in my garden, I have a standard (tree) form of it, and it is just gorgeous in bloom! I also have a huge Annabelle which I have found does not flop much if you leave some old stems in amongst the new growth, it is growing in the ground. My next purchase will be Hydrangea aspera "Macryphylla...thank you for the tour of your top hydrangeas of July!
Claus your garden is always so inspiring. What is the tree behind your white Annabelle hydrangea? Also what is the plant across your path from your white Annabelle that looks like sprays of baby's breath? I always look forward to what is in bloom in your garden. God bless
❤️
Yessss!!! 😄🌳🪴🌸🤗
Wonderful video, Claus. I'd like to know how you fertilize them. Do you have to water your garden or do you get enough rain?
Vidunderlig Claus . Take skal du have 😊
Beautiful hydrangeas. Love hydrangeas remind me of holidays when I was a child at the seaside. I have the oak leaf hydrangea. Does this grow over in Denmark. They are all beautiful I think I like Whim's red. Thank you for sharing.
Yes the oak leaf H is my favourite. But are they all not absolutely gorgeous
Your gardens are so beautiful. The roses that peeked into this video looked perfect. Right now mine are spent and trying to survive beetles. Do you have no beetles? How often are you feeding them and what do you use? Thank you you mapmaker my days happier!
They are all lovely! What is that tall billowy plant with small burgundy round blooms? I really like that among the white.
Hi I have a wims red and a candlelight one too,did you do a follow up video, showing the wims red changes in colours x
Thanks for sharing Claus! Do you ever adjust the Ph of your soil to get different colors from your hydrangeas?
Amazing Garden .are your hydrangea in pots.? Thank
💙
Off topic, but were those sanguisorba blowing around by the fourth hydrangea? I think so, and I was so glad to see them. I have them new in my garden this year and was a little disappointed to see that they are not more red. But seeing yours makes me embrace the very dark color more. Mine are not as open yet as yours. I really love the idea of those little orbs floating around up high like that. I love when I can put tall airy plants like that at the front of the border and they make a kind of layer you can look through to see the more solid plants.
The hydrangeas are beautiful here in the states they are in their summer splendor right now. There r many purple and pink ones and not so many white around this year!! How do they become so purple?
Purple is from acidic soil. The soil pH determines the color.
Can I buy one of those aprons?
Can we know the name of the wine colored flower intertwined with the ruby red Annabelle ?
I think you must mean the Monarda or Bee Balm.
