- Michael Brecker conducted a master class at the University of Kentucky on September 11, 1998. He gave comments on performances by Jeremy Long with combo and Corey Lareau. He played drums with Corey, answered questions, and played. The video was originally recorded on 8mm tape, so the resolution and audio are less than optimal. Nevertheless, hearing from one of the greats is well worth documenting. Enjoy.

Good to see M.O. here; if anyone knows Brecker,…oops, Mintzer(!)…it’s Miles.
Thanks again Miles. And yes, the Round Midnight rendition is indeed wow. It was an eyeopener for me that he used repeated notes in those arpeggio's using false fingerings. That makes it fun!
Great video. Thank you for this. 3 years to the day after this recording the world would be different.
this was great! thanks for posting! Round Midnight was something else! to hear what he has to say is always refreshing.. thanks again! RIP Michael Brecker.
"They are all better than me". What a humble guy.....

The right

"Notes are the decoration. The real thing is time !!" Just for that was worth listening ...
Thx
Is this never before released? Never seen this one... Awesome.
No never released before this upload.
Wow !
Mel Lewis's 1976 album "Mel Lewis and Friends" is the record date Michael is referring to here.
Mike had that hermit brain: practice what you need/want, make it perfect, then take it on the road. The rest is…noise.
13:47 When Mike Brecker asks what mouthpiece you play. Wow.
Mr.Aebersold really is famous. I'm glad he's my teacher :)
The greatest sax player ever!!!!!!!!!!
Thats just your opinion..but not true..
Hmmm no I’d say it’s pretty true🤷♂️
@@Zxx459 please tell us who is better! I want to listen to that player. Please don’t say Sonny Rollins!!
@@Wunktheskunk nah he’s probably more into Ben Webster
Pure gold.
yes sir master sir yes

Genial
His drumming is heavily influenced by Elvin Jones. Love it
1:31:28 Slide guitar effect.
What is the name of this second tune, at 09:25 ???
The sound quality is not the best, mainly for a non-native English speaker like myself, but the video is great.
Does anyone have text version of this?
R.I.P. X
Anybody know where I can find the original of the song that's announced as a Bob Mintzer sax/drums duo at 9:22? Is it a bootleg live recording or is it on some official release?
The original recording is from an album called "Hymn" by Mintzer, Abercrombie, Johnson, and Erskine. The tune is called "Duo."
One of my favorite Mintzer CD’s!!
@@breadedfishmusic1402 Awesome, thanks!! :-)
Pavrotti, Puccini !? serious!?

Bummer, very hard to discern,
In 2022 breaker is NOT THE BEST
Tua mãe é a melhor seu gay🤣🤣🤣
Hmm. Who is?
Well tbh it sounds like X V cares but I agree, we should all just be able to enjoy. Which is why I think the comment was stupid in the first place
He would never say he's the best, though. And I will never care if he's the best or not. I just love him and his music.
Breaker breaker good buddy.
