- Not Another Salon in London’s Brick Lane is "Instagram famous". The salon is popular for its colourful hairstyles, but also for its heavy and original social media presence which has created a community. Owner Sophia Hilton started developing the Instagram account one year before opening. "It was a case of making mood boards, looking at the way people write captions, looking at what is missed within other social media accounts," she told Business Insider. "Within hairdressing that was personality."

I've never thought my hairdresser was judging me...
An old woman once cut my hair (I'm a women with a very short hair in a country where it's not very common) and she didn't stop telling stupid things about women with short hair and I just had to pay and leave soon as possible
Well mark that's because you're an old white man whose probably never had a controversial cut or color in their life. As someone with hot pink hair I can say I feel the judgement rolling off hairdressers every time I try and get my hair done anywhere fancier than a sports clip or cost cutters. And even there its iffy.

I really like the *"No Judgement Policy"* . My hair is very frizzy and curly, so whenever I go to any salon, I'm judged. And I really don't like that! I really want to go to this place someday!

Almost every place you work (especially in hair and makeup ironically) they want everyone to look the same. All black. Uniform. Plain Jane. When in reality, shouldn't you be able to express yourself? But places don't want to see you for who you are. Expression is bad.
I couldnt even get a job with my purple hair. But luck upon me, I was able to start my own business so I don't need people to tell me shit anymore. I would push for more business to have such a policy.

This seems so nice! I remember I was getting a dip dye once and I was really excited and I heard other costumers gossiping about how “its a waste of my natural hair” and how “I’m too young” and how they thought it was too much! All I did was a dark purple dip dye on my dark hair!

I liked the whole idea but to be honest none of the customers’ hair styles actually stood out to me, I didn’t get the feeling of speciality within those :/

Perhaps its more about the feeling and customer service than just people who want colorful hair. I for sure go to certain places because the people are always nice even though I know I could save $5 if I go somewhere else.

Well I don’t know if you follow them on social medias but Spooky (one of their stylist) is known for doing thick and very curly hair. Thing is : it requires more time to get very bright colors when it comes to curly/textured hair cause they are naturally very dry. So they need more time to lift your hair otherwise it could be very damaging (and most clients don’t really take the time for that). They explained many times : they don’t do magic. They are realistic. They won’t turn your hair silver if (no matter your hair type) they are damaged, too fragile and that it could be risky in anyway. So yeah I guess textured or curly hair are more rare in these salons and if they shot this video in one day they might not have seen a client with that kind of hair (which is a shame I agree).

I think the people there seem super nice. But, when she said hair is second importance, I didn't like that. I go to a salon to have my hair done nicely and it's nice that they're non judgement. But, my personality is not your business, you're just here to do my hair. It doesn't seem much different than other salons.

You could make a holiday out of it! London has a variety of places to visit for your family, so if one of those visits happen to be to this salon, well, just a souvenir you can wear that can't be stolen.
Just remember that it's an urban city like any other you've been to, take precautions to keep safe.
Trust me u dont wanna go here, london isn't all like that. When you go out of the central part you will be not satistfiyed no hate
picsart tutorials well the food is nice, nice accommodation, nice landmarks lots of things to do. But the downsides are that it’s busy and there is thieves. Lots of them

I love the creativity and that place really, but I also love my hair the way it is .... I've never styled my hair by using straightners or curlers or anything really ...

It's just naturally straight black hair (a very dark brown if light reflects on it)
I really love how the people in the west is so liberated and free. They also have a huge respect for fashion .. art and everything unlike here in my country where dying your hair with those colors and people would stare at you like so weird.

@@whynot7802 coming from someone from the middle east, there is little to no unnatural hair dying facilities at all here. Essentially, most people view hair dying the same way they religiously view tattoos, thinking its a way of changing what god gave you. In the younger generations its also been associated with the lgbtqia+ for some reason? I don’t know why, and due to misunderstanding of religion, they view it wrongly and kind of think that hair colour = lgbtq+ = bad. Its dumb but its the way it works. So yeah most people really view the west highly as its really frowned upon to be different from your beginnings
What about different hair types because I’m not sure they’d know what to do with Afro hair 😔
yazzaroo hairdressers are taught to work on all sorts of hair.
Obviously stylists with afro Caribbean hair are better because they have the most experience. 🙂
Aaron Jackson glad that's your experience but all the salons I've been to in my time have stylists that are quite inept with tightly coiled and kinky textured hair. Their go-to is to straighten it and that's no bueno..
So when we see advertising for places like this, it's always going to be the first thought.

Thing is they are so extravagant I’d feel judged for just wanting a basic trim and not funky colours plus it’s too much stimulation for me I can physically feel my heart beating too fast watching this, anxiety in a high stimulating (lots of clients and bright colours people talking) place isn’t for me but I do like what hey are doing so hats off to you guys

I wish I could work here. We really need more places like this in the USA. The place I work at all the ppl judge everyone and make ppl like me feel like we're weird and don't belong. If the client likes something the stylist don't like then they won't do it and I get in trouble for agreeing to do it bc I know it will make the client happy

Nasreen Fathima Colour doesn’t damage hair, bleach does. But even so, if you go to a good salon and fork up the extra dough for hair protection during bleaching (like olaplex) and hair treatments after bleaching, bleached hair can actually still look and feel like before it was bleached (though your hair will technically still be damaged). I’m Chinese, so my hair is black, but I’ve bleached it light blonde and it still looks and feels like my natural hair.

Marela9 but it's true, the dyes are just pigment applied to extra pourus hair shafts. But yeah everything is killing us hormones in milk, air pollution, people wearing the wrong kind of jewlery in peircings, pestacides. We can atleast avoid sum of it tho.

This salon is just more colorful than most. It definitely would be a fun place to work, I'm a stylist / specializing in color and it's always a blast to use these fun colors! It's amazing how far our color options have come, you can do any color imaginable !

I once got highlights at my local salon. My hair was super dry after I got them, but once you use the right products for your hair, it will go back to feeling normal. Having dry hair after a procedure is normal

karla penaloza thats because majority of people with kinky/curly hair don't really colour their hair and when they do they go to someone who can specialize in the textures and how to dye with minimal damage.
Carmander I understand there's certain places folks with curly hair would wanna go so I wouldn't blame them if they didn't come here but also I feel that more hairdressers need to make the effort to be able to work with many different types of textures to serve more people. This salon doesn't look like it's showing the commitment to make it clear that they're being as "inclusive" as possible since all the people they're shown working with here have certain hair types

@@janicenoonan8915 In a perfect world scenario what you just said would make 100% sense. Unfortunately many people with afro textured hair are turned away (often at the door) because many hairdressers don't bother to learn/advertise/show evidence that they are knowledgeable in how to care for afro/tighter curled hair. So unless you actually SEE people who look like you represented in their videos/their social media, it can often be a turn off for people, especially in the day and age of Instagraming your portfolio of skills/clients. Until knowing how to care for afro textured clients is an 100% requirement for all hairdressers, I doubt many people (myself included) would volunteer their hair/money to someone potentially inexperienced with afro/tight curly hair, only for them to accidentally butcher it. But I do understand your point, hopefully things change overtime for the betterment of everyone 🌞
Bring it to their attention. Don't whine about it here. They have an Instagram. Bring it to their attention. I'm sure they would love to hear polite criticism.
