Really nice stack of records. Loving the primitive spotlight. Cool King Sunny Ade too. That Liam Grant sounds cool. Going to investigate. Elektroids are Drexcyia from Motor Town. Great Kraftwerk tribute indeed.
I'm a big fan of that Carlo Vinci Jr., he was nice enough to sign my copy in 99'. Nice score on the Gal Costa! Can't beat that price! Nice Limbus score, 3 is high on the want list. I'll see you at FMU!
Indeed see you then!
Hey Dom. I am so glad you are happy with that copy of Gal. It was a pretty nice price. Some really nice records you showed on here. Love the samples.
I just watched your reissue purge video as well. I just bought an og of that Lo Borges from Fernando, it definitely set me back. He does have a lot of Jorge Ben at the moment, not sure if he has the 69 album you are trying to replace but that is one of his easier ones to find. On a side note I was in Ibiza last week and we went to see a Brazilian DJ set at 3 am and lo and behold Jorge Ben was there right behind the DJ dancing. He played one of his tracks and I just about lost my mind. May be the closest I get to seeing Jorge Ben live the dude is mid 80s. Hope you are doing well and thanks for the great video as always, also for the shout out. Cheers!
Thank you again Jason! I saw you were in Ibiza and that's incredible. What are the chances of Jorge Ben being there like that. Unforgettable moment there. Guessing you had an amazing time. Fernando is trouble! But good trouble. So I do have an original of that Jorge Ben (and did move the reissue) but the original is way too rough. So would be interested in replacing that if it pops up. But no rush or any worries. take care!
Hey Dom! Stumpy came out a couple years after 3 EPs and had the fan-submitted rhythms. Very nice score. I have the CD version, which included tiny inserts with Chris Knox’s artwork. I can’t imagine ever finding that on vinyl. 👍
Right, meant to check into what the follow up to the EPs was. I do remember seeing Stumpy around on cd but don't own. Those 90s records are as tough as the 80s ones if not tougher!
Dom, interesting batch of records. The video footage was pretty good. I hadn't played my Suni McGrath lately, so it was nice to hear. I have his second, but need to see about the third album. I love the Taj Mahal Travellers, so I will listen to Limbus 4. Thanks, Chris
Hey Chris, I think you will quite the dig the disparate and free nature of Limbus 4 if you're a fan of TMT. Be well!
I have had the vinci jr for years still like it alot...so it remains filed..the suni is one of my personal favorite primitive lp's i love his style.
Glad i was able to help on the limbus definitely not for everyone..lol..parts also sound like the third ear band on acid..😂..much love chris
Yes your push is what put me over the edge on the Limbus. Third Ear band makes sense too. Do you have or own the other McGrath lps? I will see them at some point I'm sure. Be well my friend!
I got an original of that Ade album also. I gave the cover a G plus, vinyl was not too bad. Held up better than any Zamrock album I have boughten. Some great stuff on that album. Loved the opening and the band that was playing.
That Sunny Ade held up well. That was Bitchin Bajas and expect a focus on them soon. Cheers Steve!
Interesting stuff! Nice to see another Flying Nun go into your collection.
There will definitely be a proper update
That was a lot to absorb, luckily I can watch it again.
Maybe I'll put you to sleep the 2nd time through!
I absorb, I absorb! John Lurie is as unique on his sax playing as he is for his paintings. An artist of multitudes. I scored a nice 2nd pressing of the second Gal Costa album at a flea market in Rio last year, one of my favorite finds ever in the wild. I'm also looking for an early press of the first one. She's amazing. That Sunny Ade with dub elements sounds extremely cool and so does the Limbus 4. Thanks for sharing, hope you had a nice Father's Day. We went for a family hike at Treman SP, it was LOVELY! ☮
Excellent Cedric, sounds nice with the family. We were able to get out to a friends lake house so that was certainly lovely. Would love to get to Brazil and get in there. Awesome find indeed. Great to hear from you and have an in-person chat of course. First of many I hope
I never knew that John Laurie national orchestra album existed! Of course they’re $100 now 😂. $100 is the new $20. You should check out his new show, Painting with John too.
ha very true about $100. Yes! I have watched the first 2 seasons of Painting with John but I believe there's 1 more to check out. So good and weird.
Gal Costa original mono for $40? Wowee Zowee! Congrats. We could all use a Brazilian hook up. 🙂Also, Drexciya was from Detroit
yes, big gaff on my part
Good to spend some time with you Dom. After watching thousands of VC videos over the years. I always enjoy the ones that introduce me to artists that I was never hip to. This video was an excellent example. Naturally I knew John Lurie {my cousin Matt did some studio work with him in the late seventies/early nineties}, Sunny Ade and the Tall Dwarfs. I discovered John Lurie when I picked up the first Lounge Lizards album years ago. Quick question. Do you see many Flying Nun titles come into the store? That Tom Recchion sounded like the most interesting one to me. I did read a short review of the album. It said it is a head spinning doozy. He sounds like he experiments with a lot of different sounds. Would you compare him to John Zorn? Excellent post Dom. You never disappoint and always inspire~
Rob/Boston
Hello Rob, great to hear from you as always. I do not see much Flying Nun come into the store, at least used anyway. Of course we can always order reissues. The Recchion is more of an experimental tape document, less of that out jazz sound that Zorn does. But I haven't a ton of Zorn recordings so maybe he has aspects like that too. It's nice and some of it is quite tuneful even.
@@seekingathread Thank you Dom~
Drexcyia are from Detroit, not the UK, and they are straight up electro ^^
Ha yes I did know this but said the wrong damn thing. I have a feeling I'll be addressing this a bit from here lol
Nice Dom 🌟 the Tall Dwarfs album is also a favorite of mine.
Love it. Would probably play well on cd too.
Very well, and nice packaging/art as well.
Great selection as usual. You should check the Dylan golden Aycock- Joshua Massad duo record that just came out on vinyl if you haven’t already. Glorious guitar and Indian instruments.
Great recommendation, yes I do like some of his stuff. Will give that a look, thanks Mark
Just going off the thumbnail… I have a Syncro System Movement story that I haven’t posted on the CZcamss yet.
Who wouldn't love tracking down OG MPB albums? Just so expensive. Hell, even the reissues are costly because they're all imports.
I hadn't seen your vid until Alex connected the dots. Didn't take note of who did your reissue but the African pressing as heard in the back plays pretty strong. And wasn't crazy expensive. The Brazilian stuff is pretty plentiful in new york, lots of dealers bringing that stuff in and for somewhat reasonable pricing. wfmu....
Dom, cool ''Cinnamon Girl'' tutorial film. I dig the ''chug- chug'' rhythm of Los Bitchos Bajas or the Bitchin Bajas. They sound sorta Kraut rockish but not really, maybe , a more aggressive version of Cluster, I could be wrong or I might be right. I will check them out sooner than later . Where should I start? . Suni McGrath attached chains to my head, addictive to the Max! Thanks for playing that, never heard his music. Adelphi was an interesting label, I think the Holy Modal Rounders gang, released some stuff on that imprint. Sunny Ade was huge in the early 1980's until Fela Kuti reissues appeared in the USA. Recchion is the California version of Brian Eno, they both have a sense of humor too, but Tom's is more upfront and easily detected.
Heehee I like that Eno comparison there. Adelphi was a strange label in some ways, some interesting titles on there for sure though. You nailed it with the Bajas. When I do my focus I was going to equate them to a modern day Cluster, but if more new age perhaps. They are doing cutting edge stuff to me. Try the s/t double album on Drag City. Stunning one.
@@seekingathread Thanks Dom, love that Drag City label.
what was the name of the band playing at the beginning?
That is the Bitchin Bajas, will be doing a video on them soon
Cheese fish, they call it a cheese fish in France.
Dave, I'll have to take you to France to dismantle this leaning into conspiracy theories you seem to be developping
@@DesskeudsetdupifIt’s a Tom Waits quote from Fishing With John. Relax sizzle chest
wow haven't heard a sizzle chest drop in quite a bit lol!
